It's always a real 'Wow!' moment when you reach the treeline and are greeted by this fabulous view of Corrie Fee in Angus, Scotland. The light dusting of snow here really makes the crags look even more dramatic.
The theme for “Smile on Saturday!” is “what’s in a name”. I knew what name I wanted to select for this theme immediately: Gemma.
A girl’s name, Gemma, is of Latin origin, meaning "gem", "gemstone" or "jewel". In Hebrew it has the meaning of "little dove". It was the third most popular female name in 1984 in the UK. Records also indicate that 3,426 girls in the United States have been named Gemma since 1880. The greatest number of people were given this name in 2012, when 1,011 people in the U.S. were given the name Gemma.
Saint Gemma was an Italian saint canonized in 1940. However I like the name Gemma because of two actresses who scored major breakthroughs in their careers in 1976: British actress Gemma Jones (whom I remember best as the straight talking Cockney Louisa Trotter the BBC television drama “The Duchess of Duke Street”) and Irish actress Gemma Craven (whom I still love to watch sing and dance across my television screen in my favourite musical “The Slipper and the Rose – the Story of Cinderella”).
This photograph is actually of Gemma Craven’s name, taken from the billing on the back page of the very rare “The Slipper and the Rose – the Story of Cinderella” movie tie in book adapted by Bryan Forbes from the original script written by Bryan Forbes, Robert B. Sherman and Richard A. Sherman, published by Namara Publications and Quartet Books in 1976.

Saas-Fee can be reached by car or bus—postal buses run during much of the day half-hourly from Brig and Visp, though none provides a service beyond the bus terminal through the length of the town during the winter. No cars are allowed to enter the city (they have to be parked in special car parks outside); only small electric vehicles operate on the streets (and some petrol-driven garbage trucks). The decision to exclude most motor vehicles was made by the village at the time of the construction of the road from Saas Grund in 1951.
This is the top of Almagellhorn, in my opinion one of the most beautifull mountains seen from Saas Fee. The perfect pyramid
FEE's MRU (Mobile Riot Unit) was used in urban environments as well as military field use. They were even sometimes used as guards to banks and such.

Wenn in Hamburg maskierte Damen und Kavaliere durch die Straßen flanieren, dann findet der alljährliche Maskenzauber an der Alster statt. Der Maskenzauber hat sich mit den Jahren zu einem festen und in seiner Form einmaligem Event im Hamburger Straßenkulturleben entwickelt. Schaulustige können zwischen Alsterarkaden und Colonnaden fantasievolle Kostüme und Tänze bei diesem Straßenkarneval im venezianischen Stil bewundern.
Eigentlich hatte ich Hamburg schon aufgegeben,aber dann ging es mir besser und bin gestern Mittag dann doch noch spontan mit dem Zug nach Hamburg gefahren und es nicht bereut.
Es waren wunderschöne Masken und Kostüme dabei,aber auch ganz ganz viele Leute.Fast jeder hatte Handy oder Kamera dabei.
Juvenile birds can be noisy, frantic and impatient when it comes to feeding. But I do believe juvenile Starlings take that noisy, frantic and impatient description to a whole new level.
Starlings are not my favorite birds but over the weekend I found myself almost feeling sorry for this attentive parent who, regardless of what it did, was never able to calm the frantic cries of its starving, needy, self-centered babies. And I also admired it for its never ceasing efforts to constantly feed those youngsters.
But ... maybe it's time for those big babies to grow up and start looking for their own food. I mean look how big they are!
*** And yes, this was taken through the window so not as clear as I'd like.
