Qathen Xwegus Management Corporation (QXMC), the economic development arm of the Klahoose First Nation, has a brand new water taxi designed and built to their specifications, continuing a year of milestones for the community..
The sleek black vessel, named Goat 1, features the nation's symbol of a mountain goat. It has special additions such as lookout windows and a walk-around cabin. Built by BRIX Marine in Port Angeles, WA, the boat was financed through a partnership with Tale’awtxw Aboriginal Capital Corporation.
The capacity of the boat is 12 passengers, and it will primarily serve the captive clientele of various QXMC divisions, such as forestry and tourism, said General Manager Bruno Pereira. They are also planning to advertise passage for the public on runs such as Campbell River — Cortes Island, and Campbell River — Lund.

Tlos is an ancient city located in the southwestern region of Turkey, near the Mediterranean coast. The city was founded by the Lycians in the 4th century BC and was an important center of culture and commerce during the ancient Greek and Roman periods. The ruins of Tlos are situated on a hillside and include the remains of a theater, an acropolis, and several temples, including a temple dedicated to the god Apollo. The site also features a number of well-preserved mosaics, including a beautiful mosaic floor in the temple of Apollo.
This is a vintage Christmas embossed postcard, copyrighted 1908 by Julius Bien & Co. N.Y.
The postcard features an illustration of Santa Claus with a white beard, wearing a red hat and a holly wreath. Santa is holding a plate with a large, decorated Christmas pudding (or plum pudding).
The text "A MERRY CHRISTMAS" is visible on the plate.

Christmas pudding and plum pudding are essentially two names for the same dish: a dense, steamed dessert made from dried fruits, spices, and suet. The name "plum pudding" is an older term. In pre-Victorian English, the word "plum" was used as a general term for all kinds of dried fruits, such as raisins, currants, and sultanas, not the fresh stone fruit we call a plum today. The dish is traditionally prepared weeks or even months in advance to allow the flavors to mature, often involving family members stirring the mixture and making a wish. On Christmas Day, it is usually served warm, doused in brandy, and set alight for a dramatic presentation.
Santa Claus looks excited in the image because, in the context of the Victorian and Edwardian eras, the Christmas pudding was a highly anticipated and significant part of the Christmas feast, symbolizing family unity, abundance, and joy.
Symbolism and Tradition:
A Prized Delicacy: The Christmas pudding was the centerpiece of the festive table and a rich dessert made with expensive, imported ingredients like sugar, spices, and dried fruits that were not everyday fare for most people at the time.
Anticipation and Ritual: The making and serving of the pudding was tied to numerous family rituals and superstitions, such as every family member taking a turn to stir and make a wish, or the excitement of finding a hidden silver coin for good luck.
Culminating Moment: The moment the pudding was ceremoniously brought to the table—often doused in brandy and set alight (flambéed) for a dramatic display—was a moment of great excitement and the celebratory culmination of the meal.
Joyful Imagery: Postcards from this era often depicted a jolly and enthusiastic Santa, as this aligned with the overall joyful and abundant themes promoted by Christmas imagery, a stark contrast to some earlier, more austere depictions of Father Christmas. Santa's expression, therefore, reflects the genuine excitement and shared happiness that the pudding represented to families during the Christmas celebration in the early 20th century.
Twas the Night before Christmas: Even in the iconic 1823 poem that helped shape the modern Santa, the description of his "cheeks... like roses" and "nose like a cherry" has been interpreted by some as suggesting a ruddy complexion from drink, though the modern interpretation is that his jolliness comes from the Christmas spirit, not alcohol.
The tradition of leaving food for Santa Claus has ancient origins in European folklore, though the modern American custom of cookies and milk became popular in the 1930s.
Historical Roots - Ancient Norse Mythology: One of the earliest roots of this practice dates back to ancient Norse mythology. During the midwinter Yule festival, children would leave food, such as hay or carrots, for the god Odin's eight-legged horse, Sleipnir, hoping Odin would stop by and leave gifts in return.
Dutch Tradition: The custom also stems from the Dutch celebration of the Feast of St. Nicholas on December 6. Children would leave their shoes out the night before with treats for St. Nicholas and his attendants, who were believed to be traveling long distances, and wake up to find them filled with gifts.
Modern American Tradition - The specific tradition of leaving out cookies and milk for Santa Claus became widespread in the United States during the Great Depression in the 1930s. At a time of economic hardship, parents encouraged this practice as a way to: Teach children about the importance of gratitude and giving to others, even when they had very little themselves. Reinforce a sense of hope and the spirit of generosity during a difficult period. The dairy industry later used marketing campaigns to promote milk as the ideal accompaniment to Santa's cookies, helping to solidify the tradition in American culture.
When I obtained my Esprit 120 refractor I jumped at the chance to once again image one of my favorite deep space targets - M106. This sweeping spiral galaxy features an active, feeding super-massive black hole at its core. That in itself is not unusual - what is unusual is its size - some 30 million times the mass of our sun. Because M106 is rather close to earth (relatively speaking) at some 25 million light years it lends itself to the scrutiny of earthbound astronomers eager to unlock its secrets.
In the upper left of this image lies galaxy NGC 4217. It is an edge on spiral galaxy about 60 million light years from earth. Many other galaxies can be seen in this image including NGC 4248, 4231, 4232 and 4226.

This image features the majestic Kings Creek Falls in Lassen Volcanic National Park on a late summer afternoon. This wonderful cascade requires a hike of a little over 3 miles round trip to view it. At a height of approximately 40 feet it isn’t a mammoth falls by any means but it is gorgeous to look upon due to the silky streaks created as the water flows over the rocks to continue on down Kings Creek.
The trail to and from the falls is of easy to moderate difficulty and has historically been an absolutely gorgeous hike to take. In 2021 the Dixie Fire burned through much of the park including this area and I’ve yet to visit the park to see how this lovely area fared, although I understand much of the railings, etc at the edge of the trail were destroyed. Hopefully, the damage wasn’t too severe as it is one of my favorite areas within my “home” national park.
This series features homegrown heirloom tomatoes*. As everyone with a garden knows, when tomatoes turn ripe, they all seem to ripen at the same time. So we had a whole bunch of different types of tomatoes waiting to be bagged & frozen for the winter. I was just going to take a shot or two.. and then got a bit carried away. I tried a few different things with composition, lighting & post production, I think some things worked better than others so, please let me know what you think.

The design features the Australian Hobby bird.
Smaller than other falcons, it is one of six Australian members of the family ‘Falconidae’.
The Australian Hobby is relatively slender and long-winged. It is often seen hunting in vegetated urban areas, as well as in almost any lightly timbered country. To the left of the bird is the plains sun orchid (Thelymitra megacalyptra) with the salmon/pink sun orchid (Thelymitra rubra) on the right. Flowering occurs between September and November, and they generally only open on warm, humid days.

David Lee Pereira is a Melbourne-based studio and mural artist. He was assisted by fellow artist and friend Jason Parker. Local photographer Cindy McDonald provided the reference images David chose for the silo.
“We painted for over 200 hours straight, through the elements and the cockatoo attacks and rain, painting with 400 litres of paint to create this tribute to the Little Desert and endemic flora and fauna of the West Wimmera,” said David.
The Kaniva GrainCorp Silo was completed in October 2020. David has also painted the GrainCorp Silos in Merriwa NSW.

The Maze Rock Art Site, located within Arizona's Vermilion Cliffs National Monument, offers a captivating glimpse into the region's ancient history. This site features a prominent petroglyph resembling a maze, which lends the location its name. Created by the Ancestral Puebloans between A.D. 850 and 1300, these carvings are etched into a large sandstone boulder and are among the most well-preserved in the area.

I enjoy the emergent features in my body breeding, the way my hands close on you, the way my eyes are capable of describing the colourful and seedy scenery that surrounds me. Inside and outside of the light-filled bubble I inhabit your blood keeps me warm, your crushed watering voice lives in my womb and I save the foggy memories for the day next.
Out in the streets the eyes my teeth rip apart, the casual shoulders my fingernails slash, the shining invisible my chest touches, out of the blue the time lapses and the washed out colours induced by the smoke are gone. Holding a pencil with two fingers a view from the dwarf-magnolia tree to the entry curtains, I can feel both the life and waves between my fingers bordering to abyss and the dying quakes of cars going by.
The back of my spine tingles when I think of you, framed in the morning when all residents walking their dogs and homeless still hang out at Logan and cars and I feel like a fool with the sun trying to keep me from going to bed, twirling and jumping. There must be stages between love and monstrosity that I do not know. When this will be over and there will be no more work to do you will tell me what they are.
I go to the front garden, feeling too heavy to take myself out, yet unable to stay indoors. I like the view through the main gate, a framed and layered low angle view of the ground at the bottom. I hear you screaming in the late hours when all returners have returned, forth and around through these alleys and corridors where clients have established themselves with their habits and friends.
The sunset lasts forever with one german family in towels winding up carelessly on the benches. On the open-ended scale of fun the neighbours are curious to draw. Sidewalks are turning grey, heavy and wet. Eyes are sticking onto the poles and staying there. I stare at you and poles start swinging. Walking right into the water, focusing my fangs on your neck.
A girl busy with her juice while ownership and waitresses and options are discussed, the trends, the future plans. In time and days the crowd changes. Age, hair and colours change, music fades into music as the disco at the other end preps for another round. I pull the door open. Tilting my head towards the stars I raise my arms up to my head closing them together until my hands meet. Everything turns into nothing.

The classic features of a Great Smoky Mountains National Park river landscape were all present at this location on the middle prong of the Little River in Tremont, with wonderfully warm morning light settling on the vibrant green moss covered rocks as a hint of fog is rising off of the river. This image was shot while leading my recent Spring in the Smoky Mountains landscape photography workshop with my good friend Mark VanDyke. Click the image to view it large! The sea wall along the river Crouch and around the Dengie peninsula, Essex, features a large number of war time pill boxes. This has always struck me as a little odd, as the place feels remote, empty apart from a few farms. This structure is a mine field control tower, built against the threat of invasion in 1940, the British authorities fearing that invasion troops would land via the 'back door' - the river Crouch being navigable some way inland at the time to fairly large vessels. Landings here would have placed invasion troops behind the main Thames Estuary defences and only around 30 miles from central London. The estuary was mined and covered by a system of crude rocket launchers to protect against this threat, controlled from this tower and I suspect a large number of the pill boxes nearby were to protect this structure.
Description of Buildings:
Gesu Church is a rectangular structure of structural steel, reinforced-concrete construction and features exterior walls covered with stucco.
An arcaded portico projects from the west façade of the church and is divided by four massive piers into three bays.
The piers and pilasters on the opposite wall rest
on cubical pedestals approximately nine feet high. A chamfered molding serves as a capital for each pier and is repeated, at the same level as a belt course
running completely around the building.
The central bay of the portico projects slightly, and its arch springs from two semi-engaged Doric columns, thus framing
the main entrance of the church.
Articulation of the west wall echoes the tripartite divisions of the portico with semicircular arched portals at each bay. Double doors of wood and glass are recessed within the portal and have dentilled transoms and cartouches above.
The north façade of the church features an elevated basement from which piers rise to the architrave above. Indented panels between the piers contain tall, semi-circular arched stained glass windows.
A tripartite tower complex embellishes the roof. The central tower which is square in plan, rises in a series of steps and contains a belfry with arched windows. Two hipped roof towers flank the central tower.
Gesu Rectory is located directly east of the church and is connected to it. This four story rectangular structure is of structural steel, reinforced concrete construction, and its exterior walls are covered with stucco. Its pedimented gable
roof is covered with Spanish tile.
The main entrance is located in the center bay of the north façade and features a double door with large lights. The majority of windows are three over one double
hung sash. Round arch windows grace the fourth floor.
Gesu School is located east of the rectory. The building is a five story rectangular structure of reinforced concrete construction covered with stucco. A flat roof with parapet tops the building and features a pediment above the main entrance.
The focal point of the building is a grand, three story portico on the north façade. Ionic columns support the portico and are repeated in pilasters separating each bay. The main entrance features a colossal semi-circular arch with double doors.
The Fathers of the Society of Jesus have been instrumental in the establishment of Gesù Catholic Church from its inception. Gesù Parish was established as a result of the large Catholic community present in Miami. The original wooden church was built on land donated by Henry Flagler, and as Miami began to grow the need for a larger Church became a necessity. In 1921, the first cornerstone of this concrete and steel structure was laid to suit the needs of the growing Catholic community in Miami
Through the years, Gesù has been a spiritual ambassador to Catholics living in South Florida. It has taken on many roles aside from being a Church. For more than 75 years, Gesù Church started Gesù School which provided elementary and high school education. The school was run by the Sisters of St. Joseph
In addition, the Centro Hispano Católico at Gesù assisted Cuban refugees and refugees from other Central American countries with basic needs and helped with assimilation into a foreign country. From 1959-1982, the Centro Hispano Católico provided refugees with food, clothes, medical care, jobs, housing, daycare, school tuition, English classes, and immigration assistance. In 1962, Gesù served as headquarters to the Pedro Pan operation which bought more than 14,000 unaccompanied children from Communist Cuba
In September 1961, Gesù housed Belén Jesuit Preparatory School for a year and a half. After being exiled from Cuba, Jesuit Priests opened a school for refugee students who were living in Miami. This was the beginning of Belén Jesuit in South Florida.
Today, Gesù Catholic Church remains the spiritual center of downtown Miami. As the oldest church in South Florida, Gesù invites all to visit this historic landmark that has been serving South Florida’s Catholic community for nearly 120 years.

Amtrak Train No. 316, the Missouri River Runner, rolls east into The Trench on the KCT East-West Corridor after departing Kansas City's Union Station.
Today's train features a unique power setup with a locomotive on each end, and one of the units is an uncommon (for these parts) B32-8WH. UP's Jeff City Sub was washed out as a result of some historic flooding that occurred across much of Missouri. Amtrak used busses to move passengers from Jefferson City to St. Louis while still running the Missouri River Runner trains between Kansas City and Jefferson City.
Amtrak Train No. 3, the Southwest Chief, dropped of the B32-8WH in KC to assist the Missouri River Runner. This train has been running as all four River Runner trains (314/313 and 311/316) by making two round trips from Kansas City to Jeff City and back, and to do this, it requires a locomotive on each end to for push/pull service. 1/2/16.
This image features a Mute Swan (Cygnus olor), characterized by its prominent orange bill with a black base and a graceful, long neck often held in an "S" curve. The species is known for its heavy body, dense white plumage, and generally silent nature compared to other swan species. Mute Swans are often found swimming in pairs or small groups on lakes, ponds, and slow-moving rivers.

The contour lighting emphasizes the many features and textures of the starfish. It's five legs, which can regenerate, form the star shaped pattern from which this creature derives its name. At the end of each leg, the starfish has an eye. Yes, five eyes! The bumps all over its back are spines, which serve as armor and protection. Interestingly, there is a spot that is almost dead center of this picture, which is called a madreporite. This is a light colored calcareous opening used to filter water into the water vascular system of echinoderms. It acts like a pressure-equalizing valve.
Play features: hidden Sekrit® missiles, removable engine shroud, cockpit with unique "hinge" feature.
This was heavily inspired by Cagerrin's recent Bramble-A. That guy is a shaping wizard; while I don't wanna and can't copy that style, I can extract some of it's delicious sauce and flavour my own much simplified ship with it's juices.
Today’s picture features the current construction of the Infinity Tower (to the right of the picture), which has been under development (on and off), since 2006
This is located at the beginning, or entrance part of the Dubai Marina complex. The Construction of the 330 metres (1,083 ft) building began in February 2006 and when completed will have 73 stories and be the world's tallest high rise building with a twist of 90°. Each floor is rotated by 1.2° to achieve the full 90° spiral, creating the shape of a helix. The Tower will have residential apartments, conference rooms, tennis courts, pools, gym, nursery and spa. I can only image what it will cost to buy an apartment there!!
The sky is a bit misty/hazy in this picture, as it was a hazy day. For 4 of the 9 days I was there it was quite hazy, which took away the clarity of some of the photographs. I arrived at this part of the complex after the blue hour so had to load up on filters to try and control the excessive spot lights.
You can't take these bricks from me! This model is Shiny! At just over 2000 pieces, this is our largest model ever! The goal with this model was to have it be as accurate as possible while also making it very playable. It makes for a great display model but also has many fun play features. The model has many opening hatches and panels to give you access to the full interior.

The capital of Egypt, Cairo is one of the largest cities in Africa. It has existed for over 1000 years on the same spot on the Nile River banks. Located in the northeastern part of the country, Cairo is the passage to the Nile delta.
The Nile River is the father of African rivers and the longest river in the world. With a length of some 6650 km, it rises south of the equator and flows northwards through northeastern Africa, draining into the Mediterranean Sea.
The river is the cause of the strong contrasts we see in the image. The river’s fertility allowed the Egyptians to thrive despite the arid surrounding desert. It has always delivered the necessary water to transform the desert into a lush garden, where produce such as tomatoes, potatoes, sugar cane, rice and even cotton are grown. The Nile Delta, in fact, ranks among the world’s most fertile farming areas.
The sharp borderline between green fields and the yellow–brown desert is clear. Notice how the area is greener on the west side – the terrain is flatter, so more easily irrigated than the higher terrain to the east.
The city of Cairo shows striking contrasts. Along the well-irrigated shoreline, the green reveals the thick vegetation, while the grey areas denote the dense city. In the older areas to the east, however, beneath the foothills of the Eastern Desert and the rocky Muqaṭṭam Hills, brown and ochre are the dominant colours.
The city continuously mixes ancient and new. The Pyramids of Giza, erected on a rocky plateau on the west bank of the Nile, stand at the southwestern edge of the city, while the world’s oldest surviving obelisk in the northeast marks the site of Heliopolis, a suburb of Cairo some 10 km from the city centre.
The 6th of October City, on the left side of the image, is a new city in the desert. It hosts students from various countries, as well as from Egypt, who study at its private universities.
Cairo’s various golf courses are also featured in this image, as well as the international airport, partly visible on the top right.
Sentinel 2-A has been in orbit since 23 June, and is a multispectral high-resolution imaging mission for land monitoring, to provide imagery of vegetation, soil and water cover, inland waterways and coastal areas.
This image is also featured on the Earth from Space video programme.

Features:
- Fully Independent suspension, ride-height, and drive.
- Active four-wheel steering.
- Cockpit equipped for driver and navigator.

This was a really fun build. At its heart, it is the fruit of experimenting with various bubble canopies and arches. The 8x8 size canopy ended up working nicely for a 2 minifig cockpit. Though there may have been a way to hide the hinge assembly while maintaining an opening cockpit feature, I opted for a fixed canopy (and what I believe allowed for a more stable build). The cockpit module drops out the bottom for changing interior details.
The suspension arms started out as Part 2508 (Plate, Modified 1x2 with Long Towball), but they made the vehicle obscenely wide, so I opted for Part 3731 (Plate, Modified 2x2 with Towball). The "Y" hub in the wheels is stationary and the gears and outer wheel spin. The dune-buggy-ish look wasn't intentional, that's just sorta what it evolved into.

On this occasion I fell for the wily charms of a local prostitute. She asked for two quid for chips and a coffee whilst I asked for some photos for posterity in exchange! Not only is she a prostitute by profession but in this instance an Officer of Fair Trade ;O)
Despite her seemingly lax approach she is not unwise to the prying eyes of CCTV in the vicinity and does her best to avoid them whilst working.
Although local vice in the Holbeck/Sovereign Street area can be the object of scorn, I find the experience of meeting them, for some reason, personally upsetting!
But disregarding these observations, she seems happy in herself and agreed she is a part of local history as is any other tradesperson within Leeds.

Yay, I've got something NEW from 2022!
As described a little more in a new (4/22/22) Update posted in my Flickr profile (at flickr.com/people/99244229@N04/), I recently had my first opportunity to be fully en femme since before the pandemic. I'm now rolling out pics from this day, April 7, 2022, when I tried out a couple ensembles never before modeled. It was so great to finally re-engage myself as Grace again!
