Tennessee warblers don't have many, if any, descriptive identification features - which I guess is pretty descriptive in its own weird way. The plain drab olive color on its body and dark eye line are about the best ID clues. This one will spend the winter foraging through tropical forests somewhere in Central America.
Situated at the base of the Coromandel Range, the Karangahake Gorge Historic Walkway follows the old railway line between Paeroa and Waihi, giving access to impressive remains from the mining and railway eras.
This walkway features historic railway remains in a stunning natural gorge setting, including two steel truss bridges and a 1 km rail tunnel, and provide access to the relics of historic gold mining. The walkway follows the railway line through the gorge and then opens out alongside the Ohinemuri River, passing through the huge Victoria Battery complex and terminating at the Waikino Station where a cafe and train rides can be investigated.

Museum for international Expressionism in one of Rotterdam’s most beautiful villas. The Chabot Museum has an important collection of works by Dutch expressionist Henk Chabot (1894-1949) and is housed in one of Rotterdam’s most beautiful villas. The peaceful homely atmosphere of this listed monument built in 1938 does perfect justice to Chabot’s paintings and sculptures and to works by his contemporaries and present-day kindred spirits. Expressionism and the inter-war period are central to the museum’s temporary exhibitions. The gardens surrounding the building and the other villas scattered around Museum Park are part of an oasis of green in the very centre of Rotterdam. THE VILLA
The striking white villa was designed in 1938 by architect G.W. Baas, who worked many years for the renowned architects Brinkman & Van der Vlugt (known for the monumental Van Nelle Factories, the Feijenoord Stadium and the Sonneveld House in Rotterdam). Baas left the completion to architect L. Stokla when he was appointed as the building coordinator of the Kröller- Müller Museum at the Hoge Veluwe.
The villa in modernist style was initially built as a private residence for the Kraaijeveld family. Distinguishing features of the house are light and airy spaces, a typical openness to the garden and a unique view of the Museumpark and its surroundings. A visit to the homely, light and elegant Chabot Museum combines modern art, architecture and history.

Compton Acres Garden, Poole, Dorset
The gardens are situated at 164 Canford Cliffs, POOLE, Dorset, BH13 7ES. It is a privately owned garden, founded in 1920 by Thomas William Simpson. He was a business man whose wealth came from the production of Margarine.
From the 1920s – 1930s he began to create a series of enclosed gardens, seven in all, at the staggering cost of £220k. They were filled with sculptures and other architectural features.
The thought was, that even at an early stage of its construction that it was going to be a ‘tourist attraction’.
Unfortunately Mr Simpson died in 1944, this was followed by another death in the form of Mr. Middleton, the Head Gardener. These deaths plus the call-up of other staff lead to the gardens falling into disrepair. In 1950 the garden were sold to J. Stanley Beard a London architect who was responsible for a programme of restoration and by 1952 now complete, it was open to the public.
During that time new paths were laid, many other plantings were carried out. It changed hands again in 1964 but it still remained open. Since then the main house was sold as was part of the northern and southern boundary plus some of the woodland.
The garden now is divided between five smaller sub-gardens:
The Italian Garden: When you first see this garden from the end of the pond looking down to the Domed Temple it is spectacular. At the top end are two statues representing Wrestlers of Herculaneum. The pond itself is surrounded with brightly coloured planting and in the water are many water lilies and a fountain. To the left is the Italianate Villa with its brightly painted walls and statues on the roof and as you walk down the path other shrubs and manicured bushes. There are quite a few seats dotted around so that you can enjoy the experience.
The Wooded Valley: Here the woodland of Pine trees, where Rhododendrons and Camelias grow in some abundance. Winding footpaths and waterfalls along with other plants such as Ferns and Foxgloves make a wonderful setting.
Rock and Water Garden: There is a thought that Compton Acres has the largest rock garden in private hands in England. It consists of over 300 different plants which include alpines, conifers, spring and summer bulbs.
The Heather Garden: Here, there is a garden, again with many different species of Heather, some not easily grown in other gardens but the south coast has a much better climate enabling them to thrive. It is at its best in Spring, although it is still a very colourful space throughout the year.
The Japanese Garden: There is an odd shaped pool which is surrounded by Bamboos, Azelea and Maples. Wonderful colours, together with a collection of figures, lanterns, stone pagodas and a thatched Japanese-style summerhouse. This is covered in Wisteria in season. Many of the items were purchased in Japan, even the fish were exported under licence.
The garden covers 10 acres, it has many pieces of sculpture and architectural features scattered throughout the site. It also has a tea-room, a very important place which does nice tea and cake. What could be better after the experience of seeing the garden?

A cockatoo is any of the 21 parrot species belonging to the family Cacatuidae, the only family in the superfamily Cacatuoidea. Along with the Psittacoidea (true parrots) and the Strigopoidea (large New Zealand parrots), they make up the order Psittaciformes. The family has a mainly Australasian distribution, ranging from the Philippines and the eastern Indonesian islands of Wallacea to New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Australia. Cockatoos are recognisable by the prominent crests and curved bills. Their plumage is generally less colourful than that of other parrots, being mainly white, grey or black and often with coloured features in the crest, cheeks or tail. On average they are larger than other parrots; however, the cockatiel, the smallest cockatoo species, is a small bird. Cockatoos prefer to eat seeds, tubers, corms, fruit, flowers and insects. They often feed in large flocks, particularly when ground-feeding. Cockatoos are monogamous and nest in tree hollows. One Canada Square, sometimes called Canary Wharf Tower or simply Canary Wharf, is a skyscraper in Canary Wharf, London. It was the tallest building in the United Kingdom from 1990 to 2010, standing at 770 feet (235 m) above ground level and containing 50 storeys. In late 2010, it was surpassed by the Shard (completed in July 2012).
One Canada Square was designed by architect Mr. Cesar Pelli, who based the design and shape on earlier precedents buildings that include Brookfield Place and Elizabeth Tower. The building is clad with durable stainless steel. One of the predominant features of the building is the pyramid roof, which contains a flashing aircraft warning light, a rare feature for buildings in the United Kingdom. The distinctive pyramid pinnacle is 800 feet (240 m) above sea level.
One Canada Square is primarily used for offices, though there are some retail units on the lower ground floor. It is a prestigious location for offices and as of May 2017 was 100% let. The building is recognised as a London landmark, and it has gained much attention through film, television, and other media as one of the tallest buildings in the United Kingdom
The architectural style of the Neues Palais in Potsdam features a unique blend of different architectural styles and elements. Although it is generally considered a Baroque building, the Palais also has elements of Friderizian Rococo, Classicism and even Oriental style.

Basildon Park sits elegantly in 162 hectares (400m acres) of historic parkland and gardens. This 18th century mansion was saved from destruction by Lord and Lady Iliffe in the 1950s when it was no longer required after service during the Second World War. In a true labour of love, the Iliffe’s spent nearly 50 years renovating and returning the house to its former glory.
The grounds and house, which features carefully selected Old Masters, are open to the public thanks to the National Trust.
The fumaroles at Steamboat Point are the first major thermal features a visitor will encounter when entering Yellowstone National Park from the East Entrance. Fumaroles are vents or openings at the surface where volcanic gases and vapors are emitted. Faint to loud roars and hissing can be heard as the gas escapes the vent. Most of the vapor emitted by fumaroles is steam, formed as groundwater circulates deeply through heated rock. The water vapor mixes with volcanic gases given off by magma deep below in Yellowstone’s caldera. These volcanic gases include sulfur compounds, such as various sulfur oxides and hydrogen sulfide which accounts for the sulfur or “rotten egg smell” visitors may notice. There are no geysers that erupt water here. The fumaroles at Steamboat Point are some of the thermal features associated with the Marys Bay hydrothermal explosion crater that forms this rounded bay on the northeast side of Yellowstone Lake. There are several such hydrothermal explosion craters scattered across Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. They range from tens of feet to more than a mile across. This one at Marys Bay is not only the largest hydrothermal explosion crater documented in Yellowstone but it is also the largest in the world. It measures 1.5 miles (2.6 km) in diameter and forms an embayment on the north side of Lake Yellowstone. The crater, which formed 13,800 years ago, may have been the result of several separate explosions over a short period of time. The cause or trigger for these hydrothermal explosions are not fully understood but pressure release due to glacial melting, earthquakes, or rapid changes in lake levels could be significant factors. Geological studies have found that these large, violent hydrothermal events are independent of associated volcanism. In the past 16,000 years, none of these events have been followed by an eruption of magma. The deeper magma systems seen unaffected by these sometimes spectacular steam explosions in their overlying hydrothermal systems.

Sastrugi
Sastrugi, or zastrugi, are features formed by erosion of snow by wind. They are found in polar regions, and in snowy, wind-swept areas of temperate regions, such as frozen lakes or mountain ridges. Sastrugi are distinguished by upwind-facing points, resembling anvils, which move downwind as the surface erodes. These points usually lie along ridges parallel to the prevailing wind; they are steep on the windward side and sloping to the leeward side. Smaller irregularities of this type are known as ripples (small, ~10 mm high) or wind ridges.
Large sastrugi are troublesome to skiers and snowboarders. Traveling on the irregular surface of sastrugi can be very tiring, and can risk breaking equipment—ripples and waves are often undercut and the surface is hard and unforgiving, with constant minor topographic changes between ridge and trough.
Etymology
The words sastrugi and zastrugi are Russian-language plurals; the singular is zastruga. The form sastruga started as the German-language transliteration of the Russian word заструга (plural: заструги).
A Latin-type analogical singular sastrugus is used in various writings on exploration of the South Pole, including Robert Falcon Scott's expedition's diaries and Ernest Shackleton's The Heart of the Antarctic.
Formation mechanism
White and black colors on sastrugi are not lights and shadows, they demonstrate difference in radioreflectivity of snow deposits on the windward and leeward sides of a sastruga.
Under the action of steady wind, free snow particles accumulate and drift like the sand grains in barchan dunes, and the resulting drifting snow shapes are also popularly referred to as barchans. Inuit of Canada call them kalutoqaniq. When winds slacken, the drifted formations consolidate via sublimation and recrystallization. Subsequent winds erode kalutoqaniq into the sculptured forms of sastrugi. Inuit call large sculpturings kaioqlaq and small ripples tumarinyiq. Further erosion may turn kaioqlaq back into drifting kalutoqaniq. An intermediate stage of erosion is mapsuk, an overhanging shape. On the windward side of a ridge, the base erodes faster than the top, producing a shape like an anvil tip pointing upwind.
On sea ice
Sastrugi are more likely to form on first-year sea ice than on multiyear ice. First-year ice is smoother than multiyear ice, which allows the wind to pass uniformly over the surface without topographic obstructions. Except during the melt season, snow is dry and light in climates cold enough for sea ice, allowing the snow to be easily blown and create sastrugi parallel to the wind direction. The locations of sastrugi are fixed by March in the northern hemisphere and may be linked to the formation of melt ponds. Melt ponds are more likely to form in the depressions between sastrugi on first-year ice.

This garden of remembrance features gates with gold lettering and a memorial plinth inscribed to the dead of the 22nd Cheshire Regiment who lost their lives in World War 2.
The Memorial Garden is location in the south-east corner of the Cathedral close, between the church and the bell tower. Within the garden are many 18th/19th-century memorials. Within the garden there are two focal points – a giant cruciform geoglyph with the regimental insignia at its centre, and an altar-like memorial, a cenotaph, commemorating the Second World War dead. They are linked by a central path.
The garden has many memorials including benches commemorating local veterans’ associations of the regiment, and others bearing individual memorials. The bell tower itself has a memorial inscription, commemorating its opening.
This view looks across Yellowstone Lake from the shores Sedge Bay along the East Entrance Road In Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. The hill on the left side of the photo is Steamboat Point. One close inspection of the photo, steam can be seen rising from fumaroles at the base of the hill just above the lake. These fumaroles are some of the first thermal features encountered by visitors who enter the park from the East Entrance. Fumaroles are vents or openings at the surface where volcanic gases and vapors are emitted. Faint to loud roars and hissing can be heard as the gas escapes the vent. Most of the vapor emitted by fumaroles is steam, formed as groundwater circulates deeply through heated rock. The water vapor mixes with volcanic gases given off by magma deep below in Yellowstone’s caldera. These volcanic gases include sulfur compounds, such as various sulfur oxides and hydrogen sulfide which accounts for the sulfur or “rotten egg smell” visitors may notice. There are no geysers that erupt water here. The fumaroles at Steamboat Point are some of the thermal features associated with the Marys Bay hydrothermal explosion crater on the side of Yellowstone Lake. There are several such hydrothermal explosion craters scattered across Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. They range from tens of feet to more than a mile across. This one at Marys Bay is not only the largest hydrothermal explosion crater documented in Yellowstone but it is also the largest in the world. It measures 1.5 miles (2.6 km) in diameter and forms an embayment on the north side of Lake Yellowstone. The crater, which formed 13,800 years ago, may have been the result of several separate explosions over a short period of time. The cause or trigger for these hydrothermal explosions are not fully understood but pressure release due to glacial melting, earthquakes, or rapid changes in lake levels could be significant factors. Geological studies have found that these large, violent hydrothermal events are independent of associated volcanism. In the past 16,000 years, none of these events have been followed by an eruption of magma. The deeper magma systems seen unaffected by these sometimes spectacular steam explosions in their overlying hydrothermal systems.
The hill across the lake just beyond its western shore is The Elephant Back. Most of the top of this hill lies above 8600 feet above sea level (ASL) with the culmination at 8731 feet ASL. Elephant Back is typical of the topography in the center of the Yellowstone Caldera.

And have the big chance to visit it quite often, since it is about 15’ driving from my home. The entrance is free to the public. I call it my Open Cathedral!! It is native to South Central and Southwest China. The leaves are mostly 10–20 cm long and 7–15 cm wide and are ovate to heart-shaped. Davidia involucrata is best known for its inflorescence that features white bracts surrounding a purplish-red flower head. Each flower head with a pair of large (12–25 cm), pure white bracts at the base performing the function of petals. On a breezy day, the bracts flutter in the wind like white doves or pinched handkerchiefs, hence the English names for this tree.

A picturesque tall white-harled house on the north side of the junction between Back Causeway and The Cross in Culross (W FIfe), The Study dates from c.1610. This is said to be where Bishop Leighton of Dunblane (1611-84), who lived nearby in Bishop Leighton's House, composed his sermons. Built as a merchant's house, next to Culross Palace one of the finest in Culross, the building was acquired by the National Trust for Scotland in the 1930s. It was renovated by Ian G. Lindsay and Partners in 1959, winning a Civic Trust Award in 1962. The Study is now A-listed and is open to the public for guided tours.
The building is L-plan and comprises a three-storey main block, with a tower facing the street which rises higher. This contains a turnpike stair, with the upper stage corbelled out and containing the actual study. The orange pantiled roofs feature crow-stepped gables and catslide dormers. The windows to the front feature lattice leadwork and wooden shutters below, allowing the windows to open. Inside there are original fireplaces and timber panelling, while the beamed ceiling of the first-floor room is a reconstruction of the 1960s, brightly painted with fruit and flowers in homage to its 17th century forerunner.

The Timekeepers series (2024-2025) features hand-blown glass objects filled with glacial water from Antarctica and Greenland. The water comes from ice that scientists melt to collect data. In Timekeepers, this water preserves itself as a kind of time capsule. Paper certificates show the age of the ice.
