A little known fact is that the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) is liable to compensate power consumers in case of a delay in repairing overhead line breakdowns, underground cable breakdowns, transformer failure, streetlight faults, voltage fluctuations, replacement of burnt and faulty meters, release of new connection etc.
The Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission has specified critical distribution parameters to provide efficient, reliable and safe system of power supply through its regulations provided in the supply code, said Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal, former vice-chairman of the Punjab Small Industry Export Corporation.
He said as 99.9 per cent power consumers were not aware of the supply code, they never sought compensation in case the PSPCL defaulted in replacing a burnt meter within five days of submitting the application, releasing a new connection within 30 days and repairing overhead line breakdowns in six hours in urban area and 12 hours in rural areas. He said because of this ignorance, consumers failed to get efficient services from the PSPCL.
Grewal said he had started a campaign in rural areas to make people aware of the supply code.
He said for a delay in repairing an overhead line, the PSPCL was liable to pay Rs 50 to the affected consumer in cities while the fine was more in rural areas. "There is a provision for compensation for each deficiency in service on the part of the PSPCL," he said.
Grewal said there were 65 lakh power consumers in the state. He said the PSPCL had received up to 2,500 applications for compensation in a year against “hundreds of complaints daily”.
He said he would meet chairman of the commission tomorrow to seek an independent mechanism to enlist the complaints, verify facts and announce compensation for the affected consumers.

Ludhiana's WDM3A 18949 in the midst of running-round at Abohar Junction with train 54559, the 09:25 Bathinda Jn - Fazilka Jn Passenger. Monday 12th March 2018. This runs via the new line from Abohar to Fazilka, opened on 15th July 2012 it still has yet to get more than two trains each way a day!
A relavant snippet form the Hindustan Times of 15/07/2012 read: "Abohar and Fazilka, 42-km apart, have no rail link for decades. In February 2004, the-then railway minister, Nitish Kumar, had laid the foundation stone of one and agreed to open it by 2007. Delay completion has shot up the cost to Rs 210 crore from the original Rs 88 crore.
The physical work, including the building of platforms en route, was over long ago and even teams were deployed at the new stations between Fazilka and Abohar. Only the train, the main requirement, had not been made operational.
The rail link will not only boost trade on the country's entire western border but also give a swift mode of transport to the army. Representatives of the Abohar chapter of the India Against Corruption citizens' movement of social activist Anna Hazare had been on hunger strike at their town to demand the train service to Fazilka. The relay fast continued for more than 60 days, and on Sunday, the participants were still on strike.
"We won't cease our agitation until we see the train running on the ground," said Ashok Garg of India Against Corruption. "In papers, it's running since July 1.""

Makhu, Guruharsahai, Jalalabad, September 11: The Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, S. Sukhbir Singh Badal today inaugurated rural sewa kendars in village Talwandi Nipalan (Makhu, District-Ferozepur), Mohan Ke Utar (Guruharsahai, District-Ferozepur) and Sajrana (Jalalabad, District-Fazilka). As part of the first stage, 485 rural sewa kendars have commenced operations in 7 districts namely- Moga, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Faridkot, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Bathinda and Mansa.
In his address to the people, the Deputy Chief Minister said that Punjab has become the model state in terms of providing necessary government services to the residents of rural areas sitting in their homes and now the common masses won’t have to make rounds of government offices and can avail the services in a corruption free manner. He said that it has been the target of the SAD-BJP government right from the word go to up-lift the living standard of the masses and provide them the facilities at par with the developed countries around the globe. He also said that the previous 9 years have been witness to the record development in Punjab and he is strongly hopeful that the people of Punjab would give third consecutive chance to the SAD-BJP government owing to the progress oriented works carried out. He also announced that on forming the government for the third time, all streets and drains in the all the villages of the state would be given cemented shape.
Touching the developmental aspect, S. Badal said that apart from making Punjab a power surplus state, the road network has also been fully strengthened and transformed. Detailing other development and welfare centric measures, he said that Free power to farmers, Free health insurance scheme, Free power to the tune of 200 units to SC/BC families, Shagan scheme, Pension scheme, Free bicycles to school girls, Distribution of sports and gym kits in the villages, Free atta-dal scheme began only when a government under the leadership of S. Parkash Singh Badal was formed in the state. Taking on Congress, he said that Captain Amarinder Singh cannot spell out even a single development oriented measure during his tenure as Chief Minister from 2002-2007. In a dig at the Congress, the Deputy Chief Minister said that Congress did nothing except doing patchwork on roads.
Disclosing more, he said that in October the free medicine and skill centers would be operationalised and also that every year nearly 1 lakh youth would be imparted skill development training to enhance their employability. Branding Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as anti-Punjab, S. Badal said that these parties are deliberately defaming Punjab on the drugs issue whereas the dope tests conducted during police recruitments completely belie such false accusations. He also said that out of 6 lakh youth tested for dope, the results of only 2000 have returned positive.
Labeling AAP Convenor and Delhi Chief Minister as the one with a confrontationist attitude, the Deputy Chief Minister said that kejriwal is a habitual liar who cannot be trusted as he hasn’t lives up to his promises that he made to the people of Delhi before the elections. The Deputy Chief Minister divulged that AAP leaders are involved neck deep in the acts of moral turpitude and are facing the serious charges of desecration of religious texts.
Pooh-Poohing the release of farmers manifesto by AAP, he said that the outsiders assembled by AAP are totally ignorant of the cultural ethos and values of Punjab and kejriwal can’t tell a difference between crop of basmati and paddy. The Deputy Chief Minister giving a call to defeat the congress and AAP in the next year’s assembly polls, said that the overall development of the state is deeply connected with the SAD-BJP government because with governments of alliance parties in power at both Central and State level, Punjab is scripting brilliant success stories with each passing moment.

National Secretary BJP Kisan Morcha, Advocate Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal today appealed to the President of India Sh. Pranab Mukherjee to dismiss A.K. Ganguly from the post of ( WBHRC ) West Bengal Human Rights Commission chief after the retired judge was accused of sexually harassing a law intern. In a press statement here today Grewal said that if Ganguly did not resign from his post even after the three member's committee of the Hon'ble Supreme Court indicted him for unwelcome behaviour with the law intern, the president should use his powers. He said that the president has power and he should use it to dismiss A.K. Ganguly from his post, Constitutionally. Grewal stated that the judges' panel report, submitted to Chief Justice of India P. Sathasivam Nov 28, said the statement of the law intern, now a lawyer disclosed, an act of unwelcome behaviour (unwelcome verbal/non-verbal conduct of sexual nature) by Justice ( Retd ) A.K. Ganguly with her in the room in hotel Le Meridien on Dec 24, 2012. He said that after considering the report, a full bench of the apex court ruled out any action from its side in the incident, as A.K. Ganguly was no longer a serving judge. So that he should be immediately dismiss A.K. Ganguly from the post of ( WBHRC ) West Bengal Human Rights Commission chief, Grewal added.

National Secretary BJP Kisan Morcha and Prabhari Himachal Pradesh, Advocate Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal today said that in Congress party, the General Secretary Digvijay Singh was a better prime ministerial candidate than party's vice-president Rahul Gandhi. In a nukkar meeting in favour of SAD-BJP Candidate Kulwant Singh here today, Grewal was reacting to Digvijay Singh remark made earlier in the day that she would be a better PM candidate than Narendra Modi. He said that even he think that Digvijay Singhji is a better candidate than Rahul Gandhi. On the other hand Digvijay Singh had said Grewal is acceptable to people like Atal Bihari Vajpayee while Modi has sidelined all other leaders in BJP. It's well known to everybody that BJP party had earlier ridiculed Digvijay Singh remark saying it did not need advice from a man who could not "dare" to fight Lok Sabha election and has been involved in his party's three consecutive defeats in Madhya Pradesh. Grewal said that our party BJP has taken a decision after due deliberations. He said that we don't need his advice. But let me ask him who is his party's PM candidate. The courtiers in Congress backed Rahul Gandhi for it but he did not accept the challenge.

All India Secretary BJP Kisan Morcha and Prabhari Himachal Pradesh Advocate, Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal today termed peaceful polling in the state as "a triumph of democracy" and said voters have once again strengthened democratic process by exercising their franchise in an overwhelming manner. Grewal thanked the people of Punjab for participating in the electoral process in a whole-hearted and peaceful manner. He said a record 72 percent of total 1.95 crore electorate today voted to elect 13 Lok Sabha MPs from Punjab where the polling was largely peaceful. Grewal lauded people of the state for sticking to the ideals of peace and harmony in the state and carrying out the polling process in a dignified manner. Expressing gratitude towards the voters of Punjab, Grewal said he was grateful to them for this as nothing was dearer to him than peace and communal harmony in the state. He said undeterred by the scorching heat, the voters of Punjab turned up in large number to cast their votes, which reflected the passion of the Punjabis to play a decisive role in shaping the destiny of the country. Grewal expressed his satisfaction over the peaceful polling in which voters exercised their franchise in 13 Lok Sabha seats in the state. He said it was noteworthy that all sections of society came out in large numbers to cast their franchise. Grewal said the very fact that people have participated in this exercise in such large numbers indicates that they are concerned about their country and want to be part of the process to decide which way it will go next.

Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal has approved the site plan of the nature park-cum-monument to come up over an area of five acres in village Sitogunno (Abohar) in district Fazilka in the fond memory of legendary nature lover Amrita Devi Bishnoi and 363 other residents from Bishnoi community. The Chief Minister has asked the Financial Commissioner (Forests) to complete the entire project within four months. It has also been decided to plant 363 Jand trees also known as Khejri (Prosopis Cineraria) in the upcoming nature park and 363 ft. tall minaret (minar) to be installed in memory of these passionate lovers of nature.

He also discussed the layout plan of the upcoming nature park-cum-monument, with the senior officers.
National Coordinator Iron Collection committee is mobilizing public in respect of STATUE OF UNITY- Grewal

Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal National Secretary BJP Kisan Morcha said that with
a view to providing unique opportunity to the entire population of this vast country to contribute iron liberally and whole-heartedly towards preparing the world’s largest Statue “STATUE OF UNITY” , the State level and District level Iron Collection Cooperation and Coordination Committees in the Northern region of the country will be constituted as per the directions received from Om Parkash Dhankar, Statue of Unity National Coordinator, Iron Collection Cooperation Committee.
About 182 mts tall statue of the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabha Bhai Patel , the largest statue of the world , under the name STATUE OF UNITY will be prepared from the iron collected for this purpose from the whole country. Sardar Patel was an architect of united India who also took active part in the Freedom Movement of the country.
Grewal said that the State level Committees would be set up between 11 to 15 November . This Committees would have members up to 11,15 or21 according to the size , population and requirement of the particular State. The District Coordinators would be appointed by 15th November. All District Coordinators would be invited to attend the meeting of their respective State Committees. The first meeting of the State Committee would be convened between 16-22 November. State BJP President and organizing Secretary have been directed by the National Leadership to attend the meeting .
Grewal further disclosed that the State level Committees would be entrusted the task of monitoring the working of the District Committees. A coordination centre would also be set up by the State Committee to monitor and look after the activities of the Districts, Grewal said.
He further said that for this purpose Block level Committees would not be formed but the Block Mandal Presidents would be included in the District Committee in order to provide representation to the people of Blocks for this noble cause. However a coordination cell be set up at District level so as to keep detail of the iron collected and received . The first meeting of the District Committee would be held by the first week of December.
Grewal further said that all the National leaders of the Kisan Morcha, including himself, are making strenuous efforts to form these committees in order to mobilize the public in this respect.
