Fathers Day 2013 Walloon Lake

Happy Fathers Day from the Gulf of Mexico. Best of luck, see you soon. Pat

Happy Fathers Day Dad, hope you have a great one, you deserve it!!!

I received the coolest gift ever: Geek Dad! So I immedialy commenced to purchasing Duct Tape and a Balloon kit in order to implement the Sky Cam project.

Hope you have a great day, have a few drinksin the Cave! Shane!

This was from when we lived in Hialeah, Fla. The man at the bottom of the photo is my mom's uncle... or my grandmother's brother.

I remember sharing a room with him in those years. He had to of been one of the kindest people. Never spoke much, but always gave me his full attention... after moving to Iowa, he spent the rest of his life at a nursing home. Never complained about it... or if he did, you knew it was real... I remember bringing him home for the holidays... The two of us would play with my toys. Or we would maybe draw together. Him copying every line that I had just drawn.

Uncle Carl was handicapped. I'm not sure how or why... he just always had a walker, and then later, a wheelchair. When I think about how well he dealt with the obstacles that were put in his life... I have to wonder it this is where my mom got some of her strength later in life.

I recognize this house because of the windows to the left... and the roof. I would always sit half-way up the stairs(higher if I didn't get caught) and just stare at the sky. I would "count birds" as they flew by... I'd freeze them in my mind and then see if I could count how many were in the flock... very "Rainman" of me... scary thing is, I still do this from time to time.

To the old fella. Wishing you the very best this Fathers Day, from the Gulf of Mexico. A long way from the Seven Heads.

We have a Simpsons Duff Beer dice game, the Men's Underwear Repair Kit, the Batman Handbook, dolls of Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, "Skaar, Son of Hulk" comic, the William Shatner autobiography, a Simpsons comic collection, Indiana Jones magazine, and a childrens' book called "My Dad."

Oh, and a book of pin-ups called "Bettie Page Rules!" I also added a copy of Chris Ware's "Quimby the Mouse" to fill out the space.

ugh. not only did the fuel pump go out on our truck, but it couldn't be pulled back up that gravel slope to a spot where AAA would tow it, not even with a 4x4 truck and range rover simultaneously pulling it with tow ropes and chains.

even the vehicles that were running had a hard time getting up there on their own. it doesn't look nearly so bad here as it really is, squirrelly large stones.

made for a slightly less-than-ideal father's day weekend, although we managed to enjoy it enough.

fortunately a mechanic went out there after hours last night and got it running well enough to drive it to the repair shop.

phew. as they say, all's well that ends well.

There was still to be one more sister born after this photo was taken... my dad(Joe) is on the right. Next to him is my uncle Jim... the girls, starting with the tallest, are Aunt Catherine, Aunt Dorothea, and Aunt Mary... Aunt Margaret would come later.

They lived in a very small farm house. Basically, one and a half bedrooms... no running water. Everything from a well... and an outhouse.

I don't believe there was running water til the 70's. I can still feel the smell of that house. Very old and musty... years later, my grandmother moved back into this house before she past away. I would periodically go out to visit her. I always enjoyed this. She would usually fix me chocolate chip cookies out of ingredients that she got from the Omish community... I was in high school at the time.

When she passed away. The family found a few items that I had given her. Cards and stuff... they seemed surprised by this. They told my mom that they didn't know we were that close(hello, grandmother)... or that I went out there regularly... they gave me back a collector's plate that I had given her with cardinals on it. I wish I would have kept this. A few years ago, a friend of my mom's collected cardinals... so I gave it to her to give as a gift. At the time, I didn't have any place for it... of course, now I do.

Hope you have a wonderful Fathrs Day, missing ye all. See you soon. Burnsey.

My dad was an electrician and quite good at building things. This was a 9 ft. long entertainment center that he built. The three sections in the middle each opened up. With various items inside like TV, stereo/radio, real to real(!)... stuff that would have been of current interest at the time. The two outer sections had speakers in them.

There was also three smaller units that layed on top. They must have been moved in this picture to make room for the holiday stuff. One item was a control panel and the other two were more speakers.

On a more elaborate scale. My dad bought an old school bus and turned it into a trailer for when we went on vacation... this trully was amazing. It had a kitchen, shower, sleeping area, and visiting nook. With lots of paneling... after all, it was the 1960's/70's.

My only gripe about it was that he painted the outside green & yellow. "John Deere colors I guess". Unfortunately, I do not seem to have a photo of this anymore.

I decided that I would upload some pictures that I have of my father. I'm starting with this one because it is my favorite. I love the Coca Cola sign in the background... as well as his shirt. Besides, I think he looks cute here.

Although I see him now... I never thought these photos looked like him. He was a much older man by the time I was born. These are from a whole nother world.

I have certainly mentioned my father before on my photostream. www.flickr.com/photos/18286504@N00/396669352/in/set-72157... He was out of the picture pretty early in my life. We never had the pleasure of having a relationship beyond that of a 7 year old... growing up, I was always aware of what the situation was. (and) knew pretty much what the rest of the family thought of his decisions in life... but somehow, I could never find it in myself to think poorly of him.

I remember always thinking that I should hate him more then I ever did... I just didn't... I most definitely came to appreciate my mom more though. She was both Mother and father.

Happy Father's Day! A new 'cool' running shirt.
