A fun shipment just arrived - the window retainer (high-temp Inconel-X superalloy) and glass from the record-setting 4,520 MPH X-15 rocket plane, #2 in the series of three X-15s that were built.

#3 was destroyed in a final crash, and #1 is at the Smithsonian (nozzle photo).

The X-15 was carried aloft by B-52 and released at 45,000 feet and 500 mph. The rocket engine then fired for the first 1-2 minutes of flight. The remainder of the 10-11 minute flight was powerless and ended with a 200 MPH glide landing on a dry lake bed.

As I work this evening on a rocket that will go Mach 3, I look in awe at this windscreen that protected the pilot at Mach 6.7

From spaceaholic: This front windshield was removed in 1967 from X-15A-2. This Oval window design was only found on X-15A-2 (air frame tail number 66671) and this was a modification following its landing accident in 1962. The rebuild included additional tanks and performance enhancements exclusive to the X-15A-2, which enabled it to fly higher and faster then its siblings. The oval window was incorporated to better handle higher thermal/shock loads.

The inconel also has signatures of two X-15 pilots and Chris Kraft (better known for his involvement with Apollo). Because the window was pulled off the air frame in ‘67 it was most likely flown during the fastest flight ever (Pete Knight: 4,520 MPH in Oct 1967). After that flight and the fatal X15A-3 crash, the X-15 program was terminated. This may be the largest intact flown X-15 artifact outside of the Smithsonian and National Museum of the Air Force.

The Stanley Motor Carriage Company was an American manufacturer of steam cars that operated from 1902 to 1924, going defunct after it failed to adapt to competition from rapidly improving Internal combustion engine vehicles. The cars made by the company were colloquially called Stanley Steamers although several different models were produced. F. O. Stanley and his wife Flora drove to the top of Mount Washington in New Hampshire to generate publicity for their firm. Twins Francis E. Stanley (1849–1918) and Freelan O. Stanley (1849–1940) founded the company, after selling their photographic dry plate business to Eastman Kodak. They made their first car in 1897. During 1898 and 1899, they produced and sold over 200 cars, more than any other U.S. maker. In 1899, Freelan and his wife Flora drove one of their cars to the top of Mount Washington in New Hampshire, the highest peak in the northeastern United States. The ascent took more than two hours and was notable as being the first time a car had climbed the 7.6 miles (12.2 km) long Mount Washington Carriage Road. The Stanleys later sold the rights to this early design to Locomobile. In 1902 they formed their own Stanley Motor Carriage Company.

Specifications and design The 1912 Stanley steam car, 6hp Stanley steam car engine, with Gasoline burner for a Stanley steam car boiler. Steam generator of a 1919 Stanley Steamer . Early Stanley cars had light wooden bodies mounted on wooden "perch poles" with full-elliptic springs. Steam was generated in a vertical fire-tube boiler, mounted beneath the seat, with a vaporizing gasoline (later, kerosene) burner underneath. The boiler was reinforced by several layers of piano wire wound around it, which gave it a strong but relatively light-weight shell. In early models, the vertical fire-tubes were made of copper, and were expanded into holes in the upper and lower crown sheets. In later models, the installation of a condenser caused oil-fouling in the expansion joints, and welded steel fire-tubes had to be used. The boilers were reasonably safe since they were fitted with safety valves. Even if these failed, any dangerous over pressure would rupture one of the joints long before the boiler shell itself could burst. The resulting leakage would relieve the boiler pressure and douse the burner with very little risk to the passenger. There is not a single documented incident of a Stanley boiler exploding. The engine had two double-acting cylinders, side-by-side and equipped with slide-valves, and it was a simple-expansion type. Drive was transmitted directly by the crankshaft to a rear-mounted differential using a chain. Owners often modified their Locomobiles by adding third-party accessories, including improved lubricators, condensers, and devices which eased the laborious starting procedure. To overcome patent difficulties with the design they had sold to Locomobile, the Stanley brothers developed a new model with twin-cylinder engines geared directly to the rear axle. Later models had aluminium coachwork that resembled the internal combustion cars of the time, but they retained steam-car features by having no transmission, clutch, or driveshaft. They also had a fully sprung tubular steel frame. When they later moved the steam boiler to the front of the vehicle, the owners dubbed it the "coffin nose." The compact engine ran at considerable steam pressure, with the 10-horsepower (7.5 kW) boiler described in 1912 as having the safety valve set at 650 pounds per square inch (4.5 MPa), with the burner set to automatically cut back when pressure reached 500 pounds per square inch (3.4 MPa). The twin-cylinder steam engines were at that time 10 horsepower, with 3+1⁄4-inch (83 mm) bore and 4+1⁄4-inch (108 mm) stroke, and 20 horsepower (15 kW) with 4-inch (102 mm) bore and 5-inch (127 mm) stroke, and made extensive use of ball bearings. In order to improve range, condensers were added from 1915. A Stanley Steamer set the world record for the fastest mile in an automobile (28.2 seconds) in 1906. This record (127 mph or 204 km/h) was not broken by any automobile until 1911, although Glen Curtiss beat the record in 1907 with a V-8-powered motorcycle at 136 mph (219 km/h). The record for steam-powered automobiles was not broken until 2009. Production rose to 519 cars in 1917. The Stanley Steamer was sometimes nicknamed "The Flying Teapot". At least one Stanley Steamer found its way to Castle Hill, New South Wales, Australia where it was driven in the late 1920s.

Part 20

While wandering the creek, it wasn't long before the shadows soon stretched all the way to the other side of the basin and touched the lower slopes of Mt. Langley. I returned to one of the curves in the creek that I had found earlier that I decided would be my sunset shot for the day. Here I sat down on the soft and (unknowingly) moist grass along the bank, getting the seat of my pants wet... darn it. I moved to a drier spot and waited in the cool shade for the alpine glow to set the high peaks ablaze.

These moments of patiently waiting for light are some of my favorite. The only sound was the faint babbling of the creek. In silent contemplation I waited, breathing deeply the fresh, cool, pure air of the high mountains while feeling the earth beneath me and taking in the mountainous view.

A human voice brought me back, yelled from somewhere up high, incomprehensible. The silence returned but the peacefulness did not. A short few moment later, another yell. I waited, listening, trying to understand what was being called out and trying to figure out from where it came. After about 10 minutes of intermittent yelling I determined that it was coming from the direction of camp and Sky Blue Lake but I still couldn't understand it. I dragged myself away from the spot I was waiting at to go check on Hester who, last I saw was at camp.

He was there and all was good. He hadn't heard a thing because the of the nearby waterfall. I explained to him that I was going to head up to Sky Blue Lake and make sure everything was ok. I then made the fastest accent of 350 ft that I have ever done.

When I reached the top and the lake was in view I called out, “I heard yelling, is everything ok?”

30 seconds passed with no response. So I called out again, “I heard yelling, is everything ok?”

“Yeah, everything's fine!” yelled a disembodied voice.

“Alright, have a good night.” I replied.

“Thank you.” The voice responded.

The alpine glow was now minutes away, so I quickly made my way to a small tarn and took some shots there. By then the light had mostly faded so I started heading back, disappointed that I had not gotten a shot of the alpine glow today. But as I reached the top of a small rise before the decent back down to camp I saw a shot that I liked way more than the one I waited for down in the basin along the creek. Large white boulders sitting atop black and white speckled granite slabs, the Primrose Lake Spur of Mt. Pickering (for lack of a better name) towering high overhead, Rock Creek shining below and an unnamed ridge far off in the distance glowing in the last light of day. Over all a beautiful and expansive view, and a much better shot than what I was going to get down below. A reward for setting aside my want and doing the right thing to help someone else.

After getting the shots from that spot I sat enjoying the view and listening to the absolute complete silence. Before it got too dark I made my way back to camp in the fading twilight.

Could not convert the qualifying success into a podium.

Ted Smith flew the first Aerostar 600 in October 1967. It was a mid-wing cantilever monoplane powered by two wing-mounted Avco Lycoming piston engines, with a tricycle landing gear. It was fitted with luxury accommodation for six. Also produced, and the base of most of the subsequent models, was a version with turbocharged engines, the Aerostar 601.

During the time of production, the Aerostar held the speed record for fastest twin piston general aviation aircraft,[1] capable of cruise speeds from 220 kn (408 km/h) for the earliest 600 models to 261 kn (483 km/h) for the later 700 models. Light construction, low drag and high powered engines also contribute to fast climb rates.

Piper gobbled up Ted Smith....now it is called Piper 601P

The area that was to become West Palm Beach was settled in the late 1870s and 1880s by a few hundred settlers who called the vicinity "Lake Worth Country." These settlers were a diverse community from different parts of the United States and the world. They included founding families such at the Potters and the Lainharts, who would go on to become leading members of the business community in the fledgling city. The first white settlers in Palm Beach County lived around Lake Worth, then an enclosed freshwater lake, named for Colonel William Jenkins Worth, who had fought in the Second Seminole War in Florida in 1842. Most settlers engaged in the growing of tropical fruits and vegetables for shipment the north via Lake Worth and the Indian River. By 1890, the U.S. Census counted over 200 people settled along Lake Worth in the vicinity of what would become West Palm Beach. The area at this time also boasted a hotel, the "Cocoanut House", a church, and a post office. The city was platted by Henry Flagler as a community to house the servants working in the two grand hotels on the neighboring island of Palm Beach, across Lake Worth in 1893, coinciding with the arrival of the Florida East Coast railroad. Flagler paid two area settlers, Captain Porter and Louie Hillhouse, a combined sum of $45,000 for the original town site, stretching from Clear Lake to Lake Worth.

On November 5, 1894, 78 people met at the "Calaboose" (the first jail and police station located at Clematis St. and Poinsettia, now Dixie Hwy.) and passed the motion to incorporate the Town of West Palm Beach in what was then Dade County (now Miami-Dade County). This made West Palm Beach the first incorporated municipality in Dade County and in South Florida. The town council quickly addressed the building codes and the tents and shanties were replaced by brick, brick veneer, and stone buildings. The city grew steadily during the 1890s and the first two decades of the 20th century, most residents were engaged in the tourist industry and related services or winter vegetable market and tropical fruit trade. In 1909, Palm Beach County was formed by the Florida State Legislature and West Palm Beach became the county seat. In 1916, a new neo-classical courthouse was opened, which has been painstakingly restored back to its original condition, and is now used as the local history museum.

The city grew rapidly in the 1920s as part of the Florida land boom. The population of West Palm Beach quadrupled from 1920 to 1927, and all kinds of businesses and public services grew along with it. Many of the city's landmark structures and preserved neighborhoods were constructed during this period. Originally, Flagler intended for his Florida East Coast Railway to have its terminus in West Palm, but after the area experienced a deep freeze, he chose to extend the railroad to Miami instead.

The land boom was already faltering when city was devastated by the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane. The Depression years of the 1930s were a quiet time for the area, which saw slight population growth and property values lower than during the 1920s. The city only recovered with the onset of World War II, which saw the construction of Palm Beach Air Force Base, which brought thousands of military personnel to the city. The base was vital to the allied war effort, as it provided an excellent training facility and had unparalleled access to North Africa for a North American city. Also during World War II, German U-Boats sank dozens of merchant ships and oil tankers just off the coast of West Palm Beach. Nearby Palm Beach was under black out conditions to minimize night visibility to German U-boats.

The 1950s saw another boom in population, partly due to the return of many soldiers and airmen who had served in the vicinity during the war. Also, the advent of air conditioning encouraged growth, as year-round living in a tropical climate became more acceptable to northerners. West Palm Beach became the one of the nation's fastest growing metropolitan areas during the 1950s; the city's borders spread west of Military Trail and south to Lake Clarke Shores. However, many of the city's residents still lived within a narrow six-block wide strip from the south to north end. The neighborhoods were strictly segregated between White and African-American populations, a legacy that the city still struggles with today. The primary shopping district remained downtown, centered around Clematis Street.

In the 1960s, Palm Beach County's first enclosed shopping mall, the Palm Beach Mall, and an indoor arena were completed. These projects led to a brief revival for the city, but in the 1970s and 1980s crime continued to be a serious issue and suburban sprawl continued to drain resources and business away from the old downtown area. By the early 1990s there were very high vacancy rates downtown, and serious levels of urban blight.

Since the 1990s, developments such as CityPlace and the preservation and renovation of 1920s architecture in the nightlife hub of Clematis Street have seen a downtown resurgence in the entertainment and shopping district. The city has also placed emphasis on neighborhood development and revitalization, in historic districts such as Northwood, Flamingo Park, and El Cid. Some neighborhoods still struggle with blight and crime, as well as lowered property values caused by the Great Recession, which hit the region particularly hard. Since the recovery, multiple new developments have been completed. The Palm Beach Mall, located at the Interstate 95/Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard interchange became abandoned as the downtown was revitalized - the very mall that initiated the original abandonment of the downtown. The mall was then redeveloped into the Palm Beach Fashion Outlets in February 2014. A station for All Aboard Florida, a high-speed passenger rail service serving Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Orlando, is under construction as of July 2015.

Hallandale Beach (formerly known simply as Hallandale) is a city in southern Broward County, Florida. The city is named after Luther Halland, the son of a Swedish worker for Henry Flagler's Florida East Coast Railroad. As of the 2010 census, the population was 37,113.

The city is known as the home of Gulfstream Park (horse racing and casino) and Mardi Gras Casino, a greyhound racing track which hosts the World Classic. It also has a sizable financial district, with offices for a number of banks and brokerage houses, plus many restaurants. Due to the large number of tourists who eventually retire in the city, Hallandale Beach has one of the fastest-growing populations in Broward County and in Metro Miami.

Hallandale Beach, like most of Broward County, had no permanent European-descended population until the end of the 19th century. Seminole Indians, in settlements that lay inland of the Atlantic shore, hunted in the area and gathered coontie roots to produce arrowroot starch. The northern edge of Hallandale Beach (along Pembroke Road) still features noticeable hammocks, points elevated above sea level in the distant past.

Railroad magnate Henry Flagler, owner of the Florida East Coast Railway, recruited Luther Halland, a brother-in-law of Flagler's agents, to found a settlement south of the community of Dania. Halland and Swedish immigrant Olaf Zetterlund touted the frost-free climate and cheap land of the settlement (then named Halland, later changed to Hallandale). Halland constructed a small trading post and became the first postmaster of the small community.

By 1900, the community had slowly grown to a dozen families—seven of Swedish, three of English, and two of African descent. In 1904 the first school was built, and the first church followed two years later. Hallandale was primarily a farming community; the beach was undeveloped and used by the residents only for recreational purposes.

Hallandale was incorporated on 11 May 1927, the eighth municipality in Broward County. By that time, a thriving community of 1,500 residents, with electricity and street lights, was in place. In 1947, Hallandale was reincorporated as the City of Hallandale, allowing it to expand its borders through annexation of nearby unincorporated land lying adjacent to the Atlantic shore. On August 27, 1999, the city officially changed its name to Hallandale Beach.

Hurricane Katrina first made landfall between Hallandale Beach and Aventura, Florida.

Hurricane Irma was originally expected to go right through Hallandale Beach, instead making landfall in Key West, and once again in Naples.

ENGLISH

Helsingborg (Swedish pronunciation: [hɛlsɪŋˈbɔrj]; spelled Hälsingborg between 1912 and 1970) is a town and the seat of Helsingborg Municipality, Scania, Sweden. It had 140,547 inhabitants in 2016. Helsingborg is the centre of the northern part of western Scania. There is no formal metropolitan area, but the municipality of Helsingborg City and its neighbouring five municipalities (within Scania) had in spring of 2013 a population of 269 489 inhabitants at an area of 1,353 square kilometres (522.396 square miles), a population density of 200 people/km2. This makes Helsingborg the fourth largest population area in Sweden. The city is also Sweden's closest point to Denmark, with the Danish city Helsingør clearly visible on the other side of the Øresund about 4 km (2 mi) to the west, closer than to the city's own remoter areas. If including all population around the northern part of Øresund, as a Helsingborg-Helsingør metropolitan area, its population increases to 732 450 at an area of 2,802 square kilometres (1,081.858 square miles). The busy ferry route, known as the HH Ferry route has through history been operated by several shipping lines. As of 2014 more than 70 car ferries departures from each harbour every day.

Following the Swedish orthography reform of 1906 many place names in Sweden got a modernized spelling. In 1912 it was decided to use the form Hälsingborg. In preparation for the local government reform. In 1971 the Hälsingborg city council proposed that the new, enlarged municipality should be spelled with an "e". This was also the decision of the Government of Sweden, effective from 1 January 1971.

Historic Helsingborg, with its many old buildings, is a scenic coastal city. The buildings are a blend of old-style stone-built churches and a 600-year-old medieval fortress (Kärnan) in the city centre, and more modern commercial buildings. The streets vary from wide avenues to small alley-ways. Kullagatan, the main pedestrian shopping street in the city, was the first pedestrian shopping street in Sweden.

Helsingborg is one of the oldest cities of what is now Sweden. It has been the site of permanent settlement officially since 21 May 1085. Helsingborg's geographical position at the narrowest part of Øresund made it very important for Denmark, at that time controlling both sides of that strait. From 1429 Eric of Pomerania introduced the Øresundstolden (the Sound Dues), a levy on all trading vessels passing through the sound between Elsinore and Helsingborg. This was one of the main incomes for the Danish Crown. Crossing traffic, like fishermen, was not subject to the tax, which was initially directed against the Hanseatic League.

The Sound Dues helped Helsingør to flourish, and some of it spilled over to Helsingborg. The northern narrow inlet to Øresund with its relatively high coastlines made impression on many mariners, and when Kronborg during the Renaissance was rebuilt from a fortress to a Palace the area got famous. Evidence of this is William Shakespeare's Hamlet, which unfolds at Kronborg; the titular Prince of Denmark may well have hidden himself from his uncle in Helsingborg. The era of the Renaissance helped the Kingdom of Denmark, but towards the middle of the 17th century, the situation worsened.

Following the Dano-Swedish War (1657-1658) and the Treaty of Roskilde Denmark had to give up all territory on the southern Scandinavian peninsula, and Helsingborg became submitted to new rulers. King Charles X Gustav of Sweden landed here on 5 March 1658 to take personal possession of the Scanian lands and was met by a delegation led by the bishop of the Diocese of Lund, Peder Winstrup. At that time the town had a population of barely 1,000 people. He soon attempted to erase Denmark totally from the map, by attacking Copenhagen but failed (Treaty of Copenhagen (1660)), and died in Gothenburg soon afterwards. Not much changed for some 15 years, but when Charles XI was declared of age, the new king indeed was unsatisfied with his former rulers[clarification needed] (known as "Förmyndarräfsten" in Swedish history).

Its situation on a conflict-ridden border caused problems for Helsingborg. Denmark recaptured Scania twice, but could not hold it. The last Danish attempt to regain Scania was in 1710, when 14,000 men landed on the shores near Helsingborg. The Battle of Helsingborg was fought on the 28th of February just outside the city, which was badly affected. It took a long time to recover; even in 1770 the city had only 1,321 inhabitants and was still growing slowly.

On 20 October 1811 Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte, Marshal of France and crown prince-elect of Sweden (later king Charles XIV John) took his first step on Swedish soil in Helsingborg on his journey from Paris to Stockholm.

From the middle of the 19th century onwards, however, Helsingborg was one of the fastest growing cities of Sweden, increasing its population from 4,000 in 1850 to 20,000 in 1890 and 56,000 in 1930 due to industrialization. From 1892 a train ferry was put in service, connecting Helsingborg with its Danish sister city Helsingør. A tramway network was inaugurated in 1903 and closed down in 1967.

An American, German & Italian meet in a park...

:// Begin Charla's Personal Log \\:

Having finished the Boonta Eve race, myself and Frons were tasked to find a suitable buyer for the wraith. Finding a buyer was quite easy - every being our side of the galaxy wanted to own the supposedly fastest speeder ever created. The harder part was finding someone who actually had the money to pay for it. We had already received hundreds of offers for the Wraith, most of them from other Bounty Hunters and smugglers hoping to get their hands on the coveted vehicle. After painstakingly long hours of reading offers we came across one which seemed fairly legitimate to us - a rich crime boss on Florrum who had been in the market for a new personal speeder for quite some time now. We arranged to meet him on Coruscant with the speeder to finalise the deal.

Once me and Frons had reached the meeting place there wasn't a soul to be seen. Suddenly, as if out of nowhere a platoon of imperial soldiers appeared and began raining fire on us. It all happened so fast I can barely recall what happened. I vaguely recall Frons leading me into the backseat of the wraith to gain some protection. I was so paralyzed with shock I couldn't move, let alone help Frons fire back at the soldiers. Eventually Frons had to surrender, but not before getting hit twice in his right arm. I couldn't do anything, I just watched helplessly as the troopers stunned him and threw him from the speeder, which had now been completely destroyed. Before I knew it, they approached me and stunned me as well.

When I awoke I found myself in a holding cell. Frons was nowhere to be seen and the whole room was freezing. I looked out the barred window to look at my surroundings - it seemed I was on a barren ice world, hence the low temperature. I sat down on the floor, reliving what had happened in my mind. I could still see Frons being thrown like a rag-doll from the speeder, and my useless self just sitting there watching.

A few hours later the door to my cell opened to reveal two troopers, 501st legion by the look of their armor. What they were doing here I had no idea, but whatever the reason I wasn't going to fight back unarmed against the Empire's finest. I was led to a large open room with large machinery, a laboratory by the looks of its inhabitants - scientists dressed in the imperial white and black.

This is where I am currently. So far nobody has prevented me from continuing the use of my log, however that may be because nobody has noticed - the guards have left and the scientists seem to be completely preoccupied with their work. I know this would be the perfect time to escape, but I simply can't gather the strength or courage to do so. Gosh, what kind of a bounty hunter am I... A scientist approaches me, so I'm forced to end for now.

I'm forced to whisper in the hope that nobody will notice me continuing my log. The scientist blindfolded me and strapped some sort of device to my waist, then proceeded to give me a shot of some sort in both arms. I'm currently being transported by a small cargo speeder and am progressively losing strength in my body, supposedly due to the shots. I can feel myself being strapped to some sort of large whirring machines and having the device on my waist hooked up to them. I can't move, I can't see, and can barely move my tongue in order to make intelligent noises - not exactly the safest situation to be in. Something is starting to poke in from the object on my waist, the machine is getting louder. Ow ow ow ow ow. Ayyyyy, that was painful. Although, a don't know - it'th kinda' fumy iff you think abou' i'. Mu tung feelth tho weird, I can't muv it, haha! Ugh, mu hed felth lak ther'th a full-groan nerfth bangin' i'. Haha, a full-groan nerfth, ge' i'? Wai', ow. Ow. Ow, ow ow ow ow ow OW OW OW! Aghhhhhhhh! Aghhhhhhh! Aghhhhhhhhhhhhugh ugh. Uuuuuu...

Having received Frons's distress call we caught the first transport going to Coruscant. We found Frons, wounded in his right arm, resting in a bar in the lower levels of the city. He quickly recalled what had happened and explained that Charla had been kidnapped. We had no way of getting in touch with her and it seemed that we would never be able to reach her until Frons showed us one one of his bracelets. He explained that Charla had one just like it - when plugged into a tracing computer, the bracelet would enable us to pinpoint the approximate location of Charla.

Sure enough, the bracelet worked. According to Frons's tracker we would find Charla on the side of a mountain in the southern hemisphere of Ilum. Vase, our communications expert, arranged for transport and we all prepared our gear: mostly blasters and explosives.

Once we were already on the transport, we began planning our mission. We basically came to the conclusion that we would break into whatever place they were keeping Charla, guns a' blazing, and then get the heck out of there. To be honest, that's the type of plan I like the most - simple and effective. It's also pretty fun, not gonna lie.

A couple of minutes before landing I was approached by Veto. "Why are we doing this?," he said. "You keep forgetting we're Bounty hunters and smugglers, members of the underworld! We're not the CIS or a free day-care, losses happen - we shouldn't have to focus on one person, but the whole team! What's best for the team, Marcus?"

"Nobody's forcing you to come with us, Veto. We took a vote, we decided to rescue Charla - that proves it's best for the Team."

Veto stood motionless for a while, then replied: "What's best is not always what we want, Marcus. Remember that."

I snorted. "We're bounty hunters - the right thing for us is whatever we want to do."

Veto left and we landed a couple of minutes later. After we left the transport I noticed another ship landing a while away.

"Who do you think that is?" I asked. Nobody in the team seemed to know, however Frons after a while spoke up.

"Those are the Twins - I hired them to help us rescue Charla. I had to use all of my savings, but I think it'll be worth it."

A stunned silence followed that newest bit of information. The Twins are possibly the best fighting duo in all the galaxy - Frons must have saved up a pretty penny to be able to afford their service.

"Okay then," I said. "Let's go get Charla."

After brief introductions with the Twins - their names were Lela and Bren Kirsta - we began our attack. We found the secret base, practically invisible save for a small blast door. We blew it open and rushed in. We threatened the first sentry we found and learned that Charla was in room 5b. Having consulted a holographic map of the base we rushed to a large laboratory in the east wing.

We reached the laboratory and shot the two guards. I spotted Charla unconscious in the back of the room, hooked up to some menacing-looking machines. Blue waves of energy seemed to be rolling up her body.

"Secure the area!" I shouted. "Veto, get over to the front blast door, Bren - oh, forget it." New troops had just entered the laboratory, led by an imperial officer. It seemed a full fledged blaster battle was in order. "Just shoot them. Braik, Vase - go and get Charla out of that contraption."

I ran towards the scientist who seemed to not fully comprehend what was going on. I pinned him against the wall and placed my dirk up against his throat. "What are you doing to her?" I asked.

"That's none of your business," he sneered. "Oh, and if you remove the girl by force you'll most likely kill her."

I don't tend to trust Imperials, but what he said seemed logical anyway.

"Vase!" I yelled. "You can't remove her by force! You're going to have to hack into the computer. Braik, see if you can disable those machines manually!"

They got to work, but after a couple of seconds I heard Vase yelling:

"Marcus! She's dying - all of her vitals are failing. Her body simply can't handle the immense amount of energy flowing through her."

"If you just give it a second the program will finish, maybe she'll even be alive when it ends," sneered the scientist. I pushed him up harder against the wall.

"If the girl dies," I said, "then so do you."

"Marcus!" yelled Vase. "We're getting pretty close here, and I still haven't made any progress, neither has Braik!"

"Then shoot the dang thing!" I yelled back. Vase took out his blaster and began blasting away at the controls. Braik began frantically cutting cords and destroying as much as he could of the machines that were killing Charla. Suddenly, the machines stopped whirring - I'm still not sure what did it. Perhaps Braik was able to cause some significant damage, maybe it malfunctioned due to Vase's shots, or maybe the program simply ended. Whatever the reason, the machines stopped functioning and the straps that held Charla fell away. Vase examined her, attaching one of his trackers to her arm.

He heaved a sigh of relief. "She's still alive and well," he said. Then, with a puzzled expression he added. "In fact, she seems to be doing exceptionally well - she's the perfect picture of health. Beyond perfect, as a matter of fact."

I'm not sure what that meant, but I had no time to think about it. Me and Braik joined the others to help finish off the remaining troops. Once all of the troopers had been disposed of, I turned my attention to the scientist. He was looking astounded at Charla.

"It worked," he said, dumbfounded. "My machine's a success!"

I aimed my blaster at the machines and started blowing them to bits. The scientist watched, evidently distressed as I completely demolished his work. I noticed a couple of blue papers lying on a nearby table, so I destroyed those too.

"I hope you've got another set of blueprints and a lot of time. Otherwise, I'm sorry to say your genius machine may be gone forever."

I looked around. Everyone was accounted for, with the exception of Kas. When I thought about it I realized I hadn't seen him since we had entered the laboratory in the first place. However, a couple of seconds later he came rushing into the room clutching a data chip.

"Sorry to leave you guys on your own," he said. "I just saw this really convincing computer terminal and decided to see what information was being held on it." He smiled. "I think you guys are going to like it"

Normally I would have yelled at him for leaving us on our own, but I simply didn't have the strength. "Whatever," I said. "Let's get out of here before reinforcements come."

If you read the whole entire story without falling asleep then I've got to admit I'm really impressed. And yes, I used a half door.

Built for the Dark Time RPG as well as #imperialmarch and Luka's contest on Instagram. Went with something a lot bigger then I usually build :) I'm going to be completely honest, this MOC started to bore me towards the end while building it - too much grey. Still, I'm pleased with the way it came out. Photography less so. Feedback is always much appreciated

Happy Building!

SAMLESBURY HALL IS A HISTORIC HOUSE IN SAMLESBURY, LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND, 6 MILES EAST OF PRESTON. IT WAS BUILT IN 1325 BY GILBERT DE SOUTHWORTH, AND WAS THE PRIMARY HOME OF THE SOUTHWORTH FAMILY UNTIL THE EARLY 17TH CENTURY.

SAMLESBURY HALL MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT TO REPLACE AN EARLIER BUILDING DESTROYED DURING A RAID BY THE SCOTS, DURING THE GREAT RAID OF 1322. THE HALL HAS BEEN MANY THINGS IN ITS PAST INCLUDING A PUBLIC HOUSE AND A GIRLS' BOARDING SCHOOL, BUT SINCE 1925, WHEN IT WAS SAVED FROM BEING DEMOLISHED FOR ITS TIMBER, IT HAS BEEN ADMINISTERED BY A REGISTERED CHARITABLE TRUST, THE SAMLESBURY HALL TRUST.

GHOST STOREY

SAMLESBURY HALLIS REPUTEDLY HAUNTED BY A 'WHITE LADY’.THE WHITE LADY IS THOUGHT TO BE THE GHOST OF LADY DOROTHY SOUTHWORTH.

LADY DOROTHY LIVED AT THE HALL DURING THE SEVENTEENTH CENTURY. HER FAMILY WERE STAUNCH CATHOLICS BUT DOROTHY FELL IN LOVE WITH A NEIGHBOUR WHO HAPPENED TO BE A PROTESTANT.

BECAUSE OF FAMILY CONFLICT, THE YOUNG LOVERS COULD ONLY MEET IN SECRET, AND EVENTUALLY THEY DECIDED THEY WOULD ELOPE. ON THE NIGHT OF THEIR ESCAPE, THE YOUNG MAN MADE HIS WAY TO THE HALL, BUT BEFORE HE COULD GET TO DOROTHY, HER BROTHER CREPT UP ON HIM AND KILLED BOTH HIM AND TWO OF HIS ACCOMPLICES WITH HIS SWORD.

Spanish common name "mara" refers to large rodents of Caviidae family that occur in arid and semiarid parts of southernmost South America. Patagonian Mara (Dolichotis patagonum) is also known as Patagonian hare because of some resemblance to hares and jackrabbits. When it leaps 6 feet into the air from all four of its long legs like an antilope, it seems a cross between a rabbit and a small deer. Its body is that of a long-legged rodent that is related to guinea pig.

Patagonian Mara, sometimes called Patagonian hare or Patagonian cavy, is a large rodent that can weigh as much as 30 pounds and run at speeds of up to 45 km per hour, making it the fastest rodent in the world. Maras occur in lowland forest, shrub and grasslands of Argentina.
