The fastest animal in the world, the world's most widespread raptor and one of the coolest. The fastest speed ever recorded by one is 389 km/h or 242 mph.

Sometimes, when you are feeling down a familiar face can make all the difference. Just seeing her face made my day. Not sure the feeling was mutual ;).

The fastest dive by a bird is that of a peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), which has been estimated as reaching a terminal velocity of approximately 300 km/h (186 mph) when in a diving stoop. At this point the peregrine falcon is the fastest animal.

But fast for a very good reason., it's nutritional needs requires it to hunt down prey and the reality of that is all to be seen here in this picture

Nature simultaneously at it's most magnificent and at it's cruelest

For me they are the fastest hummingbirds and although they are "big" they don't fight with the others and are always "on hurry". Although they are not so colorful as the other species, I love their body shape and their movements. It looks like they are dancing in the air. I hope you appreciate it too!

Happy Tuesday!

Thanks a lot for your visits, comments, faves, invites, etc. Very much appreciated!

Sometimes you just have to stop and take it in

You can travel the seven seas., climb the highest mountains., dive to the bottom of every ocean

But you'll never find anything quicker than what you looking at here

Breathtaking to think of

So quickly we forget the things we see but don't notice.

The fastest, the most colorful, the craziest aurora borealis I have ever seen. March 5th, in Abisko national park, Sweden.

I watched a group of three juvenile Trumpeter Swans on the pond in back today. Interestingly, they would work on one end of the lake and then launch with a little bit of flight time to the other end of the lake, never getting much height from the water as they did so. I suspect that it's not only a faster way to get from one side to the other but it's a great way of working those wings in anticipation of migrating south for the winter!

The fastest land animal in the world, a cheetah can reach 112km/h in just three seconds – that's faster than a sports car accelerates! Its body has evolved for speed, with long legs, an elongated spine, adapted claws to grip the ground and a long tail for balance.

The Golden Eagle is one of the largest, fastest, nimblest raptors

Lustrous gold feathers gleam on the back of its head and neck; a powerful beak and talons advertise its hunting prowess.

The sun rose as it dropped from the skies hunting for prey and I had a few seconds to take the image, it did not make any sound.

Look closely at the claws in my image. Best view large.

Tricky photography of a fast moving large Bird whose wingspan is 1.8 to 2.34 metres (5 ft 11 in to 7 ft 8 in). The wingspan of golden eagles is the fifth largest among living eagle species.. The sun had just risen and the snow is white so all the settings on the camera have to balance without the snow being grey or blown highlights.

The Golden Eagle is usually the largest bird of prey in the regions where it lives. Some individuals are blackish-brown; others are golden-brown and have a more patterned plumage. This variation in plumage pattern, in part, has to do with the fact that golden eagles are always replacing their feathers (molting). Old feathers look faded while fresh ones look darker.

The Golden Eagle is the most common official national animal in the world—it's the emblem of Albania, Germany, Austria, Mexico, and Kazakhstan.

The Pronghorn is the fastest land mammal in North America. In this image, the speedy Pronghorn buck is backed by the largest land mammal in North America, the Bison. South Dakota has healthy populations of both species occupying similar habitats, including Custer State Park where this shot was taken.

A bison bull (the largest land animal in North America) strides across the mixed-grass prairie with a pronghorn doe (the fastest land animal in North America) in the background. I was lucky to see this shot coming. We were watching this mature bull stride across the prairie and I could see that, if he continued on the same path, he would pass between us and the pronghorn. When he reached the right spot a single click was enough to get the shot. Badlands National Park, SD.

Outcome: after posing in nice morning backlight, this group joined the larger group and meandered away from the park road. Several mature bucks worked to round up the stragglers. Fun to watch.

Japan's fastest bullet train, the Hayabusa Shinkansen, can reach speeds up to 320 kilometers per hour (200 miles per hour) and travel from Tokyo to Hakodate on Japan's northern island of Hokkaido in under 4 hours.

In Japanese, the word "hayabusa' means peregrine falcon, a bird of prey known for its tremendous diving speed. "Hayabusa" is often used as a metaphor for speed in much the same way as the word "cheetah" is used in English.

Probably the fastest and most erratic animal I've photographed in years. Hummingbird Hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum) feeding on the last of the valerian in my garden. Hovers almost stationary to feed on nectar for less than a second then it's off again. Dronfield-Woodhouse, Derbyshre

The cheetah or hunting leopard (Acinonyx jubatus) is an atypical member of the cat family that is unique in its speed, while lacking climbing abilities. Therefore it is placed in its own genus, Acinonyx.

It is the fastest land animal, reaching speeds between 110 and 120 km/h in short bursts covering distances up to 460 m, and has the ability to accelerate from 0 to 110 km/h in three seconds.

The adult cheetah weighs from 40 to 65 kg. Its total body length is from 115 to 150 cm, while the tail can measure up to 85 cm in length. Males tend to be slightly larger than females and have slightly bigger heads. The cheetah's chest is deep and its waist is narrow. The coarse, short fur of the cheetah is tan with round black spots measuring from 2 to 3 cm across, affording it some camouflage while hunting. There are no spots on its white underside, but the tail has spots, which merge to form four to six dark rings at the end. The cheetah has a small head with high-set eyes.

There are several geographically isolated populations of cheetah, all of which are found in Africa or Southwestern Asia. The cheetah likes to live in an open biotope, such as semi-desert, prairie, and thick brush, though it can be found in a variety of habitats.

Fastest spec diesel X3 with 322bhp. Can also get a M40i petrol with 355bhp. Not a bad looking car compared to the old shape.

"Fastest car in the valley", that was the rumor. ;-)

I took the Charger to the car wash yesterday. Some guy in a new pickup pulls up and asks me "want to race?" So I'm like, well, probably not up a mountain or in the dirt. He smiles and says, remember me, I used to drive a 1971 Chevelle SS, yellow, black stripes 454 - 4 speed. It comes back to me in an instant.

This is the same guy in high school that used to challenge me to a race nearly every time he'd put a new part on his Chevelle. Off we'd go to Highway 27, just outside of town, stage up, and the first one to the 45 mph sign was the winner. His Chevelle was screaming fast, as were most of the cars that I raced on that highway. But I always had the one thing they didn't. Traction.

I'd hook up on the launch and my opponents would go up in smoke deep into first gear, which would give me about a car length. I was always able to hold them off past that crazy sign. Never lost once. Undoubtedly got lucky occasionally, but a win is a win.

Most Saturday nights you'd eventually find us at the local Sambo's restaurant, drinking 25¢ coffee and recounting the nights misadventures. That's when a challenger to the throne would come in and say "hey!, I hear you're the one to beat around here". We'd all jump in our cars, head to the highway, and settle the score. It was surreal in the best possible way.

During our quick visit, "Mr. Chevelle" even shared he was just talking to someone a few weeks ago about how he and I used to race all the time.

His always co-pilot Jim, used to tell me how he'd "shined the rear bumper up real nice, so I can see my reflection as they blow my doors off". Just get in the car Jim. ;-)

Too much fun!

It was great seeing Jerry and meeting his grandson. Don't think I've seen him in 25 years.

Male Pronghorn (Antilocapra americana) sauntering across a frozen field. Pronghorn are the fastest land mammals in the Western Hemisphere, and only the Cheetah is faster. Scientists speculate that the Pronghorn, being built for maximum predator evasion through running, evolved to escape from extinct predators such as the American cheetah. Its speed greatly exceeds that of any existing North American predators. The Pronghorn has a large windpipe, heart, and lungs to allow it to take in large amounts of air when running. Additionally, their hooves have two long, cushioned, pointed toes that absorb shock when running at high speeds. They also feature an extremely light bone structure and hollow hair. Which is the fastest, yet slowest part of me?

And no. Its not my eye. Neither my legs.

Festina lente means – persistence, to move,

to keep doing. But not in haste.

With wisdom.

Each step calculated. No hesitation.

And there is a deference.

To know when to step back, to slow a bit

But not to stop.

So – what I have between my ears is the fastest

And yet the slowest part of me.

It’s the thinking mechanism that allow me

to see, understand and decide.

To think.

That is what enable me to haste slowly.
