The fastest animal in the world, the world's most widespread raptor and one of the coolest. The fastest speed ever recorded by one is 389 km/h or 242 mph.
Sometimes, when you are feeling down a familiar face can make all the difference. Just seeing her face made my day. Not sure the feeling was mutual ;).
The fastest dive by a bird is that of a peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), which has been estimated as reaching a terminal velocity of approximately 300 km/h (186 mph) when in a diving stoop. At this point the peregrine falcon is the fastest animal.
Sometimes you just have to stop and take it in
You can travel the seven seas., climb the highest mountains., dive to the bottom of every ocean
But you'll never find anything quicker than what you looking at here
Breathtaking to think of
The peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), also known as the peregrine, and historically as the duck hawk in North America, is a widespread bird of prey (raptor) in the family Falconidae. A large, crow-sized falcon, it has a blue-grey back, barred white underparts, and a black head. The peregrine is renowned for its speed, reaching over 320 km/h (200 mph) during its characteristic hunting stoop (high-speed dive), making it the fastest bird in the world, as well as the fastest member of the animal kingdom.
Hai Chi (海弛), leaving Jiuzhou port (九洲港) bound for Hong Kong.
She is the most comfortable of the ships serving the Zhuhai - Hong Kong route, together with a similar vessel, the Hai Kun. Hai Chi and Hai Kun are also the (by apperance) largest vessels in the fleet and the fastest as well.
Built by Austal Shipbuilders in Australia, hull No.121.
Some data for 海弛 Hai Chi:
338 passengers
Length 40m
Beam 11.5m
2 x MTU 16V 396TE 74L diesels, 1,980 kW each, 34.5kts speed.
The logo on the starboard side between the two passenger decks is based on the Chinese character 九 (jiu) and stands for "Jiuzhou Port Passenger Transportation Co."

I watched a group of three juvenile Trumpeter Swans on the pond in back today. Interestingly, they would work on one end of the lake and then launch with a little bit of flight time to the other end of the lake, never getting much height from the water as they did so. I suspect that it's not only a faster way to get from one side to the other but it's a great way of working those wings in anticipation of migrating south for the winter!

Watching the fastest animal on the planet in action was fascinating, getting a decent shot was another story :-) after spending two days with these raptors i was rewarded with a bunch of nice inflight shots...Southern California
The fastest land animal in the world, a cheetah can reach 112km/h in just three seconds – that's faster than a sports car accelerates! Its body has evolved for speed, with long legs, an elongated spine, adapted claws to grip the ground and a long tail for balance.

The Pronghorn, North America's fastest mammal, has extra-large lungs and heart to pump oxygen and blood through its system and enable it to sustain high speeds across the open prairie. And the northern prairie this year is spectacularly green. We had a good amount of rain in May and June, on top of the meltwater from a decent winter snow pack. Haven't seen it this green for a few years!
This Pronghorn buck is galloping through a crop field - not wheat, maybe canola. Running effortlessly. Born to run.

LNER 4468 Mallard is a LNER Class A4 4-6-2 steam locomotive built by the London & North Eastern Railway at Doncaster Works, England in 1938. It is historically significant as the holder of the world speed record for steam locomotives at 126 mph (203 km/h).
The common ostrich (Struthio camelus) or simply ostrich, is a species of large flightless bird native to certain large areas of Africa. It is one of two extant species of ostriches, the only living members of the genus Struthio in the ratite order of birds. The other is the Somali ostrich (Struthio molybdophanes), which was recognized as a distinct species by BirdLife International in 2014 having been previously considered a very distinctive subspecies of ostrich. The common ostrich belongs to the order Struthioniformes. Struthioniformes previously contained all the ratites, such as the kiwis, emus, rheas, and cassowaries. However, recent genetic analysis has found that the group is not monophyletic, as it is paraphyletic with respect to the tinamous, so the ostriches are now classified as the only members of the order. Phylogenetic studies have shown that it is the sister group to all other members of Palaeognathae and thus the flighted tinamous are the sister group to the extinct moa. It is distinctive in its appearance, with a long neck and legs, and can run for a long time at a speed of 55 km/h (34 mph) with short bursts up to about 70 km/h (43 mph), the fastest land speed of any bird. The common ostrich is the largest living species of bird and lays the largest eggs of any living bird (the extinct elephant birds of Madagascar and the giant moa of New Zealand laid larger eggs). The common ostrich's diet consists mainly of plant matter, though it also eats invertebrates and small reptiles. It lives in nomadic groups of 5 to 50 birds. When threatened, the ostrich will either hide itself by lying flat against the ground, or run away. If cornered, it can attack with a kick of its powerful legs. Mating patterns differ by geographical region, but territorial males fight for a harem of two to seven females. The common ostrich is farmed around the world, particularly for its feathers, which are decorative and are also used as feather dusters. Its skin is used for leather products and its meat is marketed commercially, with its leanness a common marketing point. 58290

You are looking at a miracle of evolution., this is the worlds fastest bird.,, and this is a young but fully grown female which is bigger and more powerful than her male counterparts (natures way of preventing predication) meaning she is the ultimate falcon.
I don't usually get into any photographic technical., but this was an interesting one. The weather was poor (you can see the raindrops) and she landed in a nearby tree. To get a closer picture I decided to put on the x1.4 converter and I took some reasonable shots. I knew she would eventually fly off., but expected it would be sideways or backwards because that is what they always do.,right? wrong!
Suddenly the fastest bird in the world is flying straight for me., and I have an overpowered prime lens in low light.
Put the shutter speed up and the ISO goes through the ceiling! Plus the tracking on a quickly closing object simply wasn't going to work
My only option was to risk as low a shutter as I dare., (800) and attempt to spot focus her when she got close enough... click!
It's for others to decide on the quality of the photograph., I can only look in awe at the fastest lady on the planet
Those mountain posts recently? No, I didn't hike up...though in the morning at the top it was brutal enough with -15, strong winds and snow being whipped around. Fun! 😁 always good to be out with the camera. Good to feel the elements. At the halfway station later in the day, the sky cleared, snow still being blown off the trees. This shot is riddled with imperfections, but who cares, for all the problems with the image it reminds me of a grand day out after a long time with no landscape opportunities.
The Pronghorn is the fastest land mammal in North America. In this image, the speedy Pronghorn buck is backed by the largest land mammal in North America, the Bison. South Dakota has healthy populations of both species occupying similar habitats, including Custer State Park where this shot was taken.
A bison bull (the largest land animal in North America) strides across the mixed-grass prairie with a pronghorn doe (the fastest land animal in North America) in the background. I was lucky to see this shot coming. We were watching this mature bull stride across the prairie and I could see that, if he continued on the same path, he would pass between us and the pronghorn. When he reached the right spot a single click was enough to get the shot. Badlands National Park, SD.

Staple.
The Turtle Doves have returned to Staple. There were 3 feeding in the field and one was purring from a nearby tree, so 4 birds at least.
The turtle dove is the UK's fastest declining bird species and is on the brink of extinction here.
In the UK now they are mainly a bird of southern and eastern England although their range does extend further north and west. Best looked for in woodland edges, hedgerows and open land with scattered bushes. These birds are more often heard than seen and their distinctive, gentle, purring song has long been a characteristic sound of summer.

A peregrine falcon, the fastest animal on the planet, was keeping watch. It was an amazing experience watching the pair of them on this early morning.

The cheetah or hunting leopard (Acinonyx jubatus) is an atypical member of the cat family that is unique in its speed, while lacking climbing abilities. Therefore it is placed in its own genus, Acinonyx.
It is the fastest land animal, reaching speeds between 110 and 120 km/h in short bursts covering distances up to 460 m, and has the ability to accelerate from 0 to 110 km/h in three seconds.
The adult cheetah weighs from 40 to 65 kg. Its total body length is from 115 to 150 cm, while the tail can measure up to 85 cm in length. Males tend to be slightly larger than females and have slightly bigger heads. The cheetah's chest is deep and its waist is narrow. The coarse, short fur of the cheetah is tan with round black spots measuring from 2 to 3 cm across, affording it some camouflage while hunting. There are no spots on its white underside, but the tail has spots, which merge to form four to six dark rings at the end. The cheetah has a small head with high-set eyes.
There are several geographically isolated populations of cheetah, all of which are found in Africa or Southwestern Asia. The cheetah likes to live in an open biotope, such as semi-desert, prairie, and thick brush, though it can be found in a variety of habitats.
