still the fastest mini in Sri Lanka, driven by a veteran... what a combination... unfortunately, did not perform on the day, stalling due to patch of water
I don't mean this guy, not at all.
We were having a quiet game drive and so our ranger Morné decided to check out an area that no-one else had driven. We hadn't seen any game for quite some time when the radio crackled into life.
Morné had the look of a man who had just reluctantly accepted Mission Impossible. The call was at the other end of the reserve - about as far away as was possible in the area. Coupled with the knowledge that since it was early winter, the light would be fading fast as we made our way.
He never tells us what it is we're going for. In fact he doesn't say anything more than a 'Dankie' on the radio but the speed of the Land Cruiser increases as we head off, giving the game away. We tease him a bit - "What is it Morné? Cats?". "Spots" he says. Ooh Leopard we think! "No" he corrects us "Spots, not Rosettes". That gives the game away. Cheetah.
So typically as we drive the whole of the bush empties itself out in the road in front of us. We see a huge herd of Elephant at the dam, just finished having a drink and the large group of hippo that are normally permanently submerged are out and playing on the bank. Morné curses, he knows he has to stop, so of the guys on the vehicle haven't seen that much elephant and nobody had seen more than a partial head of a hippo.
After that we speed past a herd of Wildebeest and a few Zebra and by this point Morné knows he is jinxed - we hadn't seen this many animals all day!
Eventually we make it. We're not the fastest animal in the bush. Unfortunately just after the last golden rays but before the light went really bad.
It's quite a rare sight for this area, Cheetah are infrequent visitors when the bush is very thick as they need space to run. This lone male had killed a juvenile Waterbuck and was gorging himself before being chased off the kill. There was already a vulture in a nearby tree. Cheetah are last in the predator pecking order. Lion, Hyena, Leopard and Wild Dog are all bigger and badder than them. The Cheetah will catch, eat and run, so we were lucky to make it to see him.
Seriously: I cast on for this Meathead hat and knit one row, then went into the kitchen, sliced up an onion and stuffed it into a potato and tossed it in the oven, then picked up the needles again. Pretty soon I had a delicious, golden baked potato and a finished hat. I feel like Speedy Gonzales.
I've already made another in brown, and also a smaller one for a newborn. Embellishments coming soon.
This is a photograph from a set of photographs taken at the St. Coca's AC 5KM Road Race 2016 which was held in Kilcock, Co. Kildare, Ireland at 20:00 on Friday 24th June 2016. This superb road race is now firmly established again as one of the fastest and best organised road races of it's kind in Leinster. The race follows a left handed course around a well known local walking route around Laragh and in the closing kilometer runs parallel to the Royal Canal into the finish at the railway station in the town having started at the primary school close to the St. Coca's running track. In fact for several hundred meters after the 4KM marker towards the finish the course runs parallel with the railway, canal and the R148 between Kilcock and Maynooth. This geographic feature is one of only a small number with this parallel configuration in all of Europe.
The members of St. Coca's AC and the many volunteers from the local community must be given great praise for organising another fantastic night of racing for runners, joggers, and walkers. The 5KM course is very flat with the exception of short incline up a motorway overpass and makes its way along narrow country lanes sheltered on either side by hedgerows. The nice summer evening made for an enjoyable night for everyone with a large crowd gathering at the finish to cheer on participants. Refreshments and prize awards were held in the Kilcock GAA club near to both the race start and close to the St. Coca's running track.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. DAY 2 of the Formula Ford 50th Anniversary Race Weekend and after a Really Fast Action Packed array of Cars in both Mazda and Formula Ford Racing and Qualifying on Saturday it was time for Sunday and to find out who would be Crowned the Formula Ford Champion of 2021.
AMOC GT / GT4 & Intermarque (Qualifying)
First up on the Sunday for Qualifying was The AMOC GT/GT4 Championship and with a Grid of Just 5 Cars for this One its going to be Very Interesting to see out of the 5 Drivers who Can set the Quickest Pace During Qualifying. Lets Find Out who took Pole and the Fastest Lap.
In First Place taking Pole Position and the Fastest Lap was the Duo Pair of Rikki Cann and Samuel Wilson) in their Aston Martin V8 Vantage with a Best Lap Time of 1:00.791 and a Top Speed of 71.53mph. Fantastic Work both Ricky and Rob Really Pushing the Aston Martin Hard and Gunning fort that All Important Victory come the First Race.
In Second Place was (Jamie Sturges) in his VW Golf TCR with a Best Lap Time of 1:03.245 and a Top Speed of 68.75mph. Amazing Work there Jamie Pushing that Golf and Racing it Like a Pro.
In Third Place was the Duo of (Whit and Fenn) in their Lotus Elise Motorsport with a Best Lap Time of 1:04.089 and a Top Speed of 67.85mph. Great Work there Whit and Fenn Fantastic Driving and Great Team Work.
Three Very Quick and Capable Cars in the Hands of Some Very Competitive Drivers will make for a Really Fantastic Race. With all three Cars Having Different Power Outputs it will be Interesting to see what Techniques Each of them will use to their Advantage Come the First Race.
AMOC GT / GT4 & Intermarque (Race 1)
After a Very Quick and Heated Qualifying Session which saw the Duo of Rikki Cann and Samuel Wilson Take Pole Position will Jamie and the Duo of Whit and Fenn be able to Beat them off the Line and Who Will Take Home their First Victory of the Weekend?
In First Place Taking the Victory was (Rikki Cann) in his Aston Martin V8 Vantage with a Best Lap Time of 58.194 and an Average Speed of 73.41mph. Amazing Job there Ricky Really Working Hard Behind the Wheel to Keep that Aston in the Lead Thought the Entire Race with some Beautifully Controlled Driving as well.
In Second Place was (Andy Thompson) in his Seat Toledo with a Best Lap Time of 57.893 and an Average Speed of 73.35mph. Incredible Drive there Andy Really Well Done and Making sure to hold onto that All Important Second Place.
In Third Place was (Paul Whight) in his Lotus Elise Motorsport with a Best Lap Time of 57.284 and an Average Speed of 72.75mph. Superb Drive from Paul Really Looked like he was Enjoying that Drive and Kept Pushing Hard the Whole Way around the Race Track. His Smooth Driving Through Clearways was Amazing to see.
What an Amazing First Race for the AMOC GT Championship with Many Different Cars from Many different Manufacturers Taking Part it always a Joy to see both the Cars and their Drivers Happy Doing what they Love to do. With One Last Race to go will the Likes of Rikki Cann's Teammate Samuel Wilson be able to Hold on and Get One More Victory for the Team? Lets Find Out.

In First Place taking the Final Win of the Day for AMOC GT was (Rob Fenn) in his Lotus Elise Motorsport) with a Best Lap Time of 50.083 and an Average Speed of 83.82mph. Congratulations Rob what a Drive and What a Car Fantastic Work.
In Second Place was (Samuel Wilson) in his Aston Martin V8 Vantage with a Best Lap Time of 51.459 and an Average Speed of 80.50mph. Amazing Driving there Samuel Keeping Close to Rob on Many Occasions around the Circuit and a Cracking Overtake on Rob through Clearways.
In Third Place was (Julian Reddyhough) in his Aston Martin Vantage with a Best Lap Time of 59.552 and an Average Speed of 71.18mph. Super Driving From Julian Smooth through the Corners and Making sure to Hang onto that Third Place During the Entirety of the Race.
A Really Fantastic Two Races for the AMOC GT Championship here this Weekend while the Grid might not have been up to Full Capacity We saw the Likes of Rob Fenn Samuel Wilson Rikki Cann and Julian Reddyhough take some Incredible Victories thought the Two Races. Congratulations to All of you and Good Luck to all other Drivers who were Taking Part. Keep Pushing Hard and Victory Will Come to You.
BRSCC Mazda MX5 Championship (Race 1)
Next Up was the BRSCC Mazda MX5 Championship and with Saturdays Qualifying showing a Huge Grid of 35 Cars this was Definitely going to be a Fantastic Race to Witness. Lets get right to it and Find Out who Took Victory and by How Much.
In First Place taking the Victory was (Brian Trott) in his Mazda MX5 MK1 with a Best Lap Time of 58.179 and an Average Speed of 73.82mph. Super Work there Brain Racing Against another 34 Competitors in Identical Cars and Winning takes Incredible Driver Skill and Talent and you Really Showed that During the Race. Congratulations.
In Second Place was (Oliver Allwood) in his Mazda MX5 MK1 with a Best Lap Time of 57.532 and an Average Speed of 73.81mph. Well Done Oliver Fantastic Driving and a Really Great Defence of Second Place thought the entire Race.
In Third Place was (Zak Oates) in his Mazda MX5 MK1 with a Best Lap Time of 58.020 and an Average Speed of 73.79mph. Really Nice Work there Zak Amazing Drive and Keeping Very Close to Oliver and Brain at the Front of the Gird thought. Brilliant Driving.
What a Race with Three Incredible Drivers in the likes of Brian Oliver and Zak All Pushing their Cars to the Limit and Achieving Superb Results for Race 1. Good Luck to all other Drivers Lets See if Race 2 of the Day Might Turn things Around.

After a Thrilling and Nail Biting Race 1 which saw Brian Trott take the Victory with Oliver Allwood in Second and Zak Oates in Third Place will anyone Else be able to Challenge thease Three Very Fast and Talented Drivers? Lets Find Out.
In First Place taking the Overall Victory was (Steve Foden) in his Mazda MX5 MK1 with a Best Lap Time of 1:07.517 and an Average Speed of 63.32mph. Congratulations Steve a Well Deserved Victory and Another Brilliant Trophy to add to the Cabinet at Home. Congratulations.
In Second Place was (Oliver Allwood) in his Mazda MX5 MK1 with a Best Lap Time of 1:07.789 and an Average Speed of 63.17mph. Brilliant Work Once Again Oliver taking Second Place and Racing with Everything you could Possibly Get out of that Car. A Future Mazda Champion in the Making no Doubt. Brilliant Drive.
In Third Place was (Luke Pullen) in his Mazda MX5 MK1 with a Best Lap Time of 1:07.835 and an Average Speed of 63.14mph. Well Done Luke Really Fantastic Driving in Very Damp and Bright Conditions.
Another Amazing Race for the Mazda MX5 Championship with the Likes of Steve Foden Oliver Allwood and Luke Pullen all taking Incredible Victories thought Race 2 and Standing on the Podium. Keep Up the Amazing Work you Three and to Everyone Else Keep Working Towards Those Goals of Victory and Success.
With One Final Race Coming Up will Steve Foden be able to Hang on and Take Another Victory for 1st Place or will the Likes of Luke and Oliver try to Steal it away from Him? Lets Find Out.

In First Place taking the Last Victory of the Day for the BRSCC Mazda MX5 Championship was (Michael Knibbs) in his Mazda MX5 MK1 with a Best Lap Time of 58.656 and an Average Speed of 72.84mph. Congratulations Michael A Very Strong Drive with a Lot of Ambition Behind the Wheel. What a Fantastic Way to End off the Weekend.

The Mazda MX5 Super Cup Championship was next Up and after A Whole Day of Qualifying and Qualifying Second Fastest on Saturday it was time to see what Each of the Drivers could do and How they would use their Style and Race Craft to Gain a Victory. With Another Large Grid of 30 Cars Anything Can Happen and Racing always has its Moments of Unpredictability.

The World's Fastest Gamer finalists did battle in an rFactor2 race under the Californian night sky with the stunning Los Angeles skyline as a backdrop.
This is a photograph belonging to a set of photographs taken at the St. Coca's AC 5KM Road Race 2013 which was held in Kilcock, Co. Kildare, Ireland at 20:00 on Friday 28th June 2013. This superb road race is now firmly established again as one of the fastest and best organised road races of it's kind in Leinster. The race follows a left handed course around a well known local walking route around Laragh and in the closing kilometer runs parallel to the Royal Canal into the finish at the railway station. The members of St. Coca's AC and the many volunteers from the local community must be given great praise for organising another fantastic night of racing for runners, joggers, and walkers. The 5KM course is very flat with the exception of short incline up a motorway overpass and makes its way along narrow country lanes sheltered on either side by hedgerows. The beautiful summer's evening made for an enjoyable night for everyone with a large crowd gathering at the finish to cheer on participants.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: Approximately 350 people took part in tonight's race with runners, joggers, walkers, and families involved.
Weather: A perfect summer's evening with temperatures around 16C. There was a breeze out but this was mostly sheltered from runners around a beautiful country roads course.
Course: This is a very fast flat course. The course is left handed and starts outside the 'Bawn Og' St. Coca's AC track and proceeds to the well known local walk around Laragh and crosses the M4/M6 motorway twice. The final 1KM runs parallel with the Royal Canal with the finish in the car-park of Kilcock Railway Station.

Refreshments: The folks at St. Coca's AC put on an incredible spread of refreshments afterwards in race HQ in Scoil Ui Riada.

Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

In First Place Taking the Win and Fastest Lap was (Rod Birley) in his Ford Escort WRC with a Best Lap Time of 1:00.960 and an Average Speed of 60.83mph. Amazing Work there Rod Driven like a True Champion and a Fantastic Home Win to Add to the Already Incredible Win Streak at Brands Hatch.
In Second Place was (Nick Sutton) in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 10 with a Best Lap Time of 59.429 and an Average Speed of 60.74mph. Great Drive from Nick Once Again Showing his Brave and Fantastic Skills even at Night When the Lights go Out. Well Done.
In Third Place was (Steve Dann) in his VW Scirocco with a Best Lap Time of 1:02.227 and an Average Speed of 60.48mph. Nice Work Steve Really Good Drive for P3 Showing some Incredible Speed and Commitment Thought the Race.

The Likes of Endaf Owens was Also Prepared after an Engine Failure During Yesterdays Race Which Many thought would put him out of Contention for Today..........However With Some Incredible Overnight Work by Him and His Fellow Mechanics as well as a Late Night Trip to Wales and Back to Pick Up a Spare Engine, Endaf and His Dedicated Team Have Managed to Get his Car Ready for Race 2. Truly a Phenomenal Achievement. Lets Hope for Better Luck this Time.

As The Light Fell away from the Circuit The Britcar Endurance Championship made its way out onto the circuit with Lights a Blaze and a lot of Energy coming from both the Drivers and their Cars This was Going to be a Race of Endurance and Car Management thought the 45 Minutes of the Race.

This is a photograph from the annual Na Fianna AC "Bob Heffernan" 5KM Road Race and Fun Run which was held in Johnstownbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Tuesday 17th May 2016 at 20:00. The race is now firmly established on the Leinster road racing calendar with athletes travelling from all over the region to take part. The race has gained a glowing reputation as being one of the fastest 5KM road races in Ireland. It is one of the rare occasions around road racing circles these days where a very small club can organise a very successful large participation race. Today's race had another very large attendance with over 480 participants finishing the race following on from over 400 finishers last year. .
This race commemorates the years of work and volunteering that local man Bob Heffernan gave to Meath, Leinster, and Irish athletics from grass roots upwards and his work with the host club Na Fianna AC. Na Fianna AC are typical of many rural sporting clubs who have a large catchment area which combines rural North Kildare and South Meath. The race, known affectionately by club-members as simply "Bob's race" is a fitting tribute to commemorate his contribution to this sport.
The very changeable weather from the entire day made for an unpredictable night weather wise. There were several very heavy torrential showers of rain before the race. The race itself was ran in dry overcast conditions.
This race is part of the annual Meath AAI Road Race League despite the fact that the race is run completely in County Kildare. The current route for the race has stayed the same over the past few years. However previous to that the race was held in Enfield and also Rathmoylan in County Meath. The race starts on the busy Enfield to Endenderry road and this requires a big effort from stewards and marshalls. However, as always, the event was a resounding success with personal bests and great runs from many of the participants. The course is very fast and flat - it is a one loop course which is left-handed in terms of turns.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

CEA Racing had been showing great speed in the Friday practice sessions setting several new personal fastest laps several times during the day, so expectations were high before the qualifying sessions
Thomas Raldorf who is the driver of the CEA Racing Car in the Pro Car class did not disappoint, as he on his first lap out set the pace for everybody else to try and match.
After the Qualifying was over Thomas had only qualified his car on the front row in second place and would have a great starting point for the 1st race Sunday morning.
Come Sunday morning the track was wet for the first few races but then dried up and stayed dry the rest of the day, so Thomas and CEA Racing knew that they would have to try and fight it out on a dry track.
At the start of Race 1 Thomas was up alongside the leading car down towards the first corner but had to concede as he was on the outside into the corner and slotted into 2nd were he was able to stay for the rest of the race, although he was under considerable pressure from the driver in 3rd for the last 4 laps of the race.
Between the 1st and the 2nd race of the day a few adjustment was made to the car for better handling and the car was back on the grid with Thomas starting from 2nd row in 3rd place for the 2nd race .
Regulations state that the driver with the fastest single lap in Race 1 will start on Pole Position for the 2nd Race of the day, and since CEA Racing had 3rd fastest lap in Race 1, they had to start 3rd although they had finished Race 1 in 2nd place.
Thomas shot out of his starting grid like a rocket and went straight up between the driver in 1st and 2nd and took over the lead of the race before the first corner. Over the next few laps Thomas managed to pull out a gap of more than 100 Mtrs down to the 2nd and 3rd placed drivers as they were fighting with each other for positions.
Unfortunately an accident further down the grid caused the Safety Car to come out on Lap 3 and all the space he had gained was suddenly lost, as everybody was bunched up behind the safety car.
At the Restart Thomas again had a very good start and was able to stay in the lead but was not able to break away from the driver in 2nd place, as he was having to drive very defensively .
On lap 7 of the race The driver in 2nd managed to squeeze himself up beside Thomas in turn 2 and then an intense fight for the lead saw the 2 cars side by side with only a few centimeters between then trough the next few corners until Thomas eventually had to give up his position to avoid running of the track. This unfortunately allowed the train of cars behind to also pass and Thomas had to slot into 4th and take of the challenge again.
The next 5 laps was very thrilling with the 4 cars fighting for position almost every single corner and eventually finishing with 0.011 seconds between the 1st and 2nd placed cars.
CEA Racing and Thomas never really recovered and finished in 4th less than a second behind the winning car.
Next race for CEA will be an invitational event in Buriram at the new FIA Grade 1 Race circuit which has been built for bringing International Motorsport to Thailand.
CEA will be involved in a support race for the Japanese GT Series 4/5 October.

This is a photograph belonging to a set of photographs taken at the St. Coca's AC 5KM Road Race 2013 which was held in Kilcock, Co. Kildare, Ireland at 20:00 on Friday 28th June 2013. This superb road race is now firmly established again as one of the fastest and best organised road races of it's kind in Leinster. The race follows a left handed course around a well known local walking route around Laragh and in the closing kilometer runs parallel to the Royal Canal into the finish at the railway station. The members of St. Coca's AC and the many volunteers from the local community must be given great praise for organising another fantastic night of racing for runners, joggers, and walkers. The 5KM course is very flat with the exception of short incline up a motorway overpass and makes its way along narrow country lanes sheltered on either side by hedgerows. The beautiful summer's evening made for an enjoyable night for everyone with a large crowd gathering at the finish to cheer on participants.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: Approximately 350 people took part in tonight's race with runners, joggers, walkers, and families involved.
Weather: A perfect summer's evening with temperatures around 16C. There was a breeze out but this was mostly sheltered from runners around a beautiful country roads course.
Course: This is a very fast flat course. The course is left handed and starts outside the 'Bawn Og' St. Coca's AC track and proceeds to the well known local walk around Laragh and crosses the M4/M6 motorway twice. The final 1KM runs parallel with the Royal Canal with the finish in the car-park of Kilcock Railway Station.

Refreshments: The folks at St. Coca's AC put on an incredible spread of refreshments afterwards in race HQ in Scoil Ui Riada.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase.
