What I like about this picture is its colorz coz looool accuracy is definitely missing in this photo as I was in a moving car … (one of my oldie shots) =P
One from a while back at Tunnel Beach. A not very successful blend of fast shutter speed for the splashing wave and long exposure for the rest of the Pacific Ocean and rocks.
We have finally made it home after flying 1000 km from Auckland to Dunedin. If you have ever looked after someone with leg in plaster and non-weightbearing on crutches you will know I'm busy! :) Even though I'm off work on sick leave I am well enough to look after my wife they say.
Thanks very much to those who have sent their best wishes our way and my wife's ankle is getting less painful by the day only needing panadol at night now.

De zon is al ruim een half uur geleden ondergegaan, de dag loopt ten einde. Toch heerst er nog de nodige bedrijvigheid op het station van Grünburg. Grünburg is het eindstation van Steyrtalbahn; de treinen rijden vanaf hier niet meer verder. Vroeger was dat nog anders, toen de lijn nog verder liep naar het 20 kilometer verderop gelegen Klaus. Aldaar werd aansluiting gegeven op het spoorwegnet van de Österreichische Bundesbahnen.
Het is 20.47 uur als de twee in Grünburg eindigende treinen van die dag nog langs het perron staan. Links staat locomotief 298.102 met de al geruime tijd daarvoor binnengekomen ‘Güterzug mit Personenbeförderung’. De passagiers zijn al lang huiswaarts gegaan. De melkbussen die eerder op de dag in de voorste wagon zijn ingeladen, zijn ongetwijfeld ook al op hun bestemming. Rechts staat de zojuist binnengereden goederentrein met locomotief 498.04. Voor het treinpersoneel is het ‘fast feierabend’: Weldra zullen de locomotieven worden afgekoppeld en richting locomotievenloods weg worden gerangeerd, waarna ook hier de nachtelijke rust zal intreden.
Locomotief 298.102 behoort tot een serie van 6 locomotieven die destijds speciaal voor de Steyrtalbahn waren ontwikkeld. De locomotieven worden dan ook wel aangeduid als ‘Steyrtalbahnlok’. De locomotieven zijn vanaf het jaar 1888 bij de firma Krauss in Linz gebouwd en gelden als de voorlopers voor de veel grotere serie ‘Reihe U’, dat met 50 stuks de grootste serie aan Europese smalspoorlocomotieven omvat. Vele tientallen locomotieven uit deze serie zijn in de periode 1894 - 1922 voor smalspoorlijnen in de vrijwel de gehele Donaumonarchie besteld en geleverd. Na het uiteenvallen van de Habsburgse monarchie na de eerste wereldoorlog verbleven vele locomotieven uit de serie in onder andere Tsjecho-Slowakije, Polen , Italië en Joegoslavië. De Steyrtalbahnlok’s, hebben jarenlang rondgereden hebben met de nummers 1 t/m 6. Na 1953 werden de locomotieven opgenomen in het nummersysteem van de Österreichische Bundesbahn opgenomen als ‘Reihe 498.1’. Locomotief 2, kreeg daarbij het nummer 298.102. De ‘Reihe U’ werd omgedoopt tot ‘Reihe 498’.
Omdat een groot deel van de smalspoorlocomotieven uit de ‘Reihe U’ buiten Oostenrijk verbleef, besloot de toendertijd nieuw opgerichte Österreichische Bundesbahn tot de aanschaf van een nieuwe serie stoomlocomotieven. De serie van 8 locomotieven werd bij de Österreichische Bundesbahn aangeduid als ‘Reihe Uh’ en werden in de jaren 1928 – 1931 eveneens door de firma Kraus in Linz gebouwd. Na 1953 werd de ‘Reihe Uh’ in het nieuwe nummersysteem van de Österreichische Bundesbahn opgenomen als ‘Reihe 498’. De foto toont de vierde locomotief uit de serie, de 498.04.
