A view from the Cambie St. Bridge, of the construction of an island, with condos of some sort being built on it. In the background are the Coastal Range Mountains; the downtown area is to the northhwest of False Creek. Hopefully all this construction will be over in time for the 2010 Olympics, being hosted by Vancouver/Whistler. A casino is housed just on the left, as are G.M. Place and B.C. Place, where the Vancouver Canucks and the B.C. Lions play. Chinatown, Yaletown, Granville Island and Gastown are within walking distance. Shuttle ferries run between these tourist spots & Stanley Park, which is west of here. A seawall runs all along the waterway for cyclists and walkers.
I wonder if my false teeth will make a museum exhibit one day? First I will need to get some false teeth.

Granville Island is a peninsula and shopping district in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is located across False Creek from Downtown Vancouver under the south end of the Granville Street Bridge. The peninsula was once an industrial manufacturing area, but today it is a hotspot for Vancouver tourism and entertainment. The area was named after Granville Leveson-Gower, 2nd Earl Granville.
Granville Island provides amenities such as a large public market, an extensive marina, a hotel, Arts Umbrella, False Creek Community Centre, various performing arts theatres including Vancouver's only professional improvisational theatre company Vancouver Theatresports League, the Arts Club Theatre Company and Carousel Theatre, fine arts galleries, and variety of shopping areas.
Market features a farmers' market, day vendors, and artists offering local Vancouver goods. There are 50 permanent retailers and typically more than one-hundred day vendors in stalls throughout the market selling a variety of artisan cottage-industry foods and handmade crafts on a rotating schedule.
Granville Island Brewing Co. is also the name of a beer company which originated on Granville Island in 1984, but whose main base of operations was moved to Kelowna, British Columbia some time later. In 2009 it was purchased by Molson's Brewery and continues to brew small batches of its varieties at the Granville Island brewing original site, and offers beer tasting and tours of their brewing facilities.
Ocean Concrete is the longest-established tenant on the island, having set up shop there in 1917. In 2014, OSGEMEOS (Portuguese for THE TWINS), consisting of brother duo Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo, revamped the concrete silos with their ongoing mural project, 'Giants'.
Granville Island is the central location of several annual festivals, including the Vancouver International Children's Festival, the Vancouver Fringe Festival, and the Vancouver Writers Fest.

My shots of False Kiva really suck. I took over 50, hoping to do some sort of exposure blending / HDR, but just can't get anything to come out the way I want. Granted, I was there at a bad time of day and the light was terrible. Still, the hike in was fun and just being at this local is simply amazing.

Noticed these on a short drive this Sunday morning… Commonly called the tropical almond, false kamani trees are deciduous, and are dropping their colorful leaves (they redden before falling). I was so tempted to scoop up armfuls of the fallen brown leaves for my compost pile, but they are tough, and would take forever to break down.

Does anyone know what kind of spider this is? It jumps around and is quite aggressive! I struggled to even photograph it as it was so lively. Living under a paving slab in the garden (in England). View On White
EDIT:
Yikes.... I have found out it is a Steatoda Nobilis "False Widow".... Britain's most dangerous spider!

Adult spiders are capable of biting humans. The bite of the false widow spider can be medically significant in humans, but usually without any long-lasting effects.
Reports from those bitten describe a certain amount of pain, which often radiates along the limb or part of the body where bitten, and often a degree of swelling in the affected part. Some describe fever and a general feeling of being unwell. These symptoms may last for a couple of days but the total effect is unlikely to be more serious than that.
I guess I won't poke it then...
