Fine Amanita specimen just popped up in the grass. I think this is the White variant of False Deathcap (Amanita citrina var. alba). Brown's Folly Nature Reserve, Avon Wildlife Trust, Bathford near Bath, England.

Often a sky like this predicts rain but yesterday we had top temperature in the country which is not easy when we are closer to the South Pole than almost all other cities. Our friend eats breakfast with this view every day but is moving soon to another part of the city. She wanted me to get a sunrise picture and me wanting to help a lady finally got myself there on a day with a sunrise :)

Rain on Douglas fir tree.

Douglas fir, which has sometimes been called the Douglas tree, Oregon pine, and Douglas spruce, is not actually a true fir, a pine, or a spruce. Indicative of the taxonomic confusion about this tree, the scientific genus name Pseudotsuga means “false hemlock,” alluding to yet another kind of tree somewhat similar to this unique but important tree. Douglas firs are evergreen trees, meaning they keep their needle-like leaves year-round. There are two varieties of this species, coast Douglas fir and Rocky Mountain Douglas fir, which are differentiated by their habitats, growth rates, and physical characteristics.

When Douglas firs grow in dense forests, they self-prune their lower branches so the conical crown starts many stories above the ground. Trees growing in open habitats, especially younger trees, have branches much closer to the ground. Coast Douglas firs are the faster-growing and larger of the two varieties, and they commonly grow up to 250 feet (76 meters) in old-growth forests and can reach five to six feet (1.5 to 1.8 meters) in diameter. Rocky Mountain Douglas firs measure about the same in diameter but only grow up to 160 feet (49 meters).

A Coastal Brown Bear initiates its charge toward a salmon swimming by. It quickly broke off the planned attack as the salmon swam away.

Dittrichia viscosa, another hardy plant from the Mediterranean region which blooms in late summer, being an important nectar source during the dryest months. This one retains green leaves, which are an important food source for several caterpillars as well.

A false awakening is a vivid and convincing dream about awakening from sleep, while the dreamer in reality continues to sleep. The experience is sometimes called a double dream, or a dream within a dream (wikipedia)

This is the building were I work and at the time it was being repainted in-between the windows. There were quite a few men up there on ladders when our fire alarm went off. The fire department arrived and saw all the painters still up there and still painting. It turned out to be a false alarm thank goodness. The fire fighters stood watching in disbelief. I noticed this one on my phone the other day and remembered I never posted it.

Telus World of Science/ Formerly the Expo'86 Centre

Science World at Telus World of Science, is a science centre run by a not-for-profit organization.

This geodesic dome ( golf ball shaped ) building was constructed for Expo '86. It was opened in 1985 as the Expo preview center and became the Expo '86 World's Fair Centre.

The height is 155 feet tall with a foundation of reinforced steel in a cement slab.

The dome is supported by 182 piles

There are 391 lights and 766 triangles on the Science World dome.

Constructed using 15,000 pounds of extruded aluminium and aluminium panels on the dome. The panels are 1 mm thick and are covered with a vinyl surface.

Science World has a total building area of 10,220 square metres and a total exhibit area of 4,275 square metres. The building’s volume is 36,790 cubic metres.

The air-conditioning system uses chilled water for cooling and gas-fired boilers for heating.

The OMIMAX Theatre seats 400 people

The screen is 27 metres in diameter. The theatre’s sound system uses high-fidelity, six-channel, two-way sound with sub-bass to create an unparalleled surround sound experience.

I read that the 15,000 watt xenon lamp that lights the movie screen is so bright that if it was placed on the surface of the moon and focused it at a spot on Earth, you would actually see its light.

Since our recent rains, quite a few of these have appeared in our fields, especially in the lower areas. They're very attractive to the flies and bees, and pretty subjects also...

Well, since it's felt like false spring lately, I decided to revisit another season on this winter day.

I believe--this one wasn't in the Fairy Ring like the last one I posted, like the ones coming. This one grew alone on the other side of the yard.
