Though his talons are extended, this is not the normal attack vector of an Osprey targeting a fish. He pulled up before ever touching the water and settled onto a nearby limb overhanging Armand Bayou.
Pacifica Pier, Apr 2011
After three tries I think I got the perspective right. I've found it difficult to center the tripod and get the overhead part of the pier to converge correctly in the frame. If you've been to this location you know how tricky it is to get a shot. Even at low tide you will get a wave or two smashing into you during the large set, and low tide is the ONLY time to stand here if you know what I mean :).
This shot took an inordinate amount of tweaking in post to enhance the dramatic feel. The straight lines of the pier and the horizon are a nightmare to mask around without getting a lot of fringing.
All comments, critiques and feedback both positive and negative welcome.

False Marten - Long-tailed Weasel juvenile doing its best impression of an American Marten in a Redwood fork. When photographing wildlife, I always enjoy capturing them in a variety of settings such as trees, rocks, etc. I think this is exciting because it gives me a better understanding of their natural history - and provides for a diverse range of images.
My goal was to get a better weasel in tree image. When I photographed them in 2018, I captured a weasel in the fork of a tree, but the lighting was too harsh.
Just as was leaving, and it was very dark outside, I saw this weasel shoot up a small redwood sapling. After being mobbed aggressively by some very unhappy California Towhees, he slide down and gave me a quick peep from the main trunk. I fired away 4 shots, and thankfully one of them was in focus.
Shortly after this, the weasel disappeared, only to pop up right near me and investigate! A great way to to wrap up the evening and I thought it was great how the redwood bark matched the weasel's coloration.

It's amazing how much these spread in a season. Nice to have, attractive to pollinators, but I think we'll have to set some limits...
Is it a beetle? Yes it is.
Is it a potato beetle? Yes.
Does it look like a potato beetle? Yes
The similar Colorado Potato Beetle is found throughout the USA, but this one, the "False Potato Beetle" is found only in Eastern USA. Eastern Potato Beetle would seem a more logical name...oh well.

The NW summit of Waddington has a false summit as well as a true summit. The false summit sits just to the south of the NW summit at the head of Angel Glacier, across a small saddle. In this photo from the true summit of Wadd an American climber is traversing from the NW summit over the saddle to the false summit.
You think your nearly there and then you get a little higher and realise it's a false summit... it happens a lot when walking the fells.. now I never believe I'm nearly there until I am there :-)

This is an amazing place to visit. We sat in one place for nearly 4 hours shooting with the different lighting and waiting for the Milky-way to come into frame.
This is the fifth image that was captured near Frome, after spending the night capturing the milky way.
I can't claim this image to be a true infrared depiction. During editing, I decided to try something different by using false infrared settings in Lightroom. This is a photograph that maybe re-edited in the near future.
On an obedient plant - pretty flowers, attractive to pollinators. Nothing in the garden spreads more readily...
Could someone tell me how in the actual world Fuji Q Highland made it through 60 years of operation with it's history and conditions? How did they dodge the lawsuits and the safety inspections. It's only redeeming factor is going in for free and for what? Photos I suppose I still got some good ones, despite the terrible status the park was in.
This shot looked a little cleaner compared to the others. Got a very good backdrop with multiple buildings, the coaster Takabisha in the background (the world's steepest roller coaster), and Fuji behind it. Because of the complicated composition being behind the coaster I couldn't enlarge Fuji even though I really wanted to. This does not look like Fuji Q's true state, but rather how it's advertised. So when I came to editing I tried to do a challenge I've never tried before: To INTENTIONALLY make it look fake.
Changed the shadows and hues in multiple places including the sky and the building on the left. And sized down the image as best I could (the frame was bigger originally for no reason). And for the first time I opted to use a white gradient instead of a black one.
I guess I'm chastising a bit too much cause if we're talking about the big open spaces this is actually what the place looks like. But I would not advise people to come here for amusement purposes. Uh, I mean: World record coasters! 5 star customer service! All in Fuji's shadow! Best local theme park in Nippon! Totally not questionable at all!

Inside Canyonlands National Park in Utah is False Kiva. This place is not on any park maps or literature but if you ask a ranger - they will explain to you how to get there. It is a fantastic spot - beautiful, remote, spiritual. No one is quite sure what the Native Americans used this place for but the inspirational views and isolated location were undoubtedly a special and important place.
