CP 235 is pulling through the tunnel from Windsor as they rise up into Detroit with some early fall color in the background. Detroit, MI 9/27/2020

With an apple tree in the foreground. A friend noticed that it looks like deer have been eating the apples off the lower branches.

Happy Fence Friday!

Love this time of year! It goes by much too quickly in Colorado. I will be in search of every colorful leaf until either a frost or the wind carries them away!

Fall colors over Half Dome from Sentinel Bridge

Oxbow Bend is a beautiful and popular location in Grand Teton National Park. It was especially nice this day with a dusting of snow on Mount Moran, wonderful color, and no wind. The challenge was to capture all of the beauty of this place in a way unique from the hundreds of other photographers shooting this day ;-)

You gotta love when performers leave their mics and set stage positions, come to the front, and just rock out.

Rare storm during fall of 2012 brought some nice sunsets to San Diego. I went for a comp that just showed the sunset with some wave action to emphasize the storm clearing.

Taken Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Water Works Park in Des Moines, Iowa.

This picture was one of the hardest pictures I've ever taken. The wind was crazy this day and the leaves did not want to stay lined up. I must of taken over 100 pictures and I only got one of them all facing the right way. I hope you enjoy my hard work ;)

I couldn't decided if I should photoshop the strings out or not. What do you think?

I would love it if someone could get me a screenshot of front page! Thanks to everyone for commenting and faving <3

Assignment: PCA20 – Distortion

Deadline: Mar. 16, 2008

Image Tag: pca20

From: nasu1

Mission:

This is a 1 week assignment. For this task, incorporate distortion into your photograph. The subject matter can be anything. Here are a few ideas:

Photograph through a transparent or semi-transparent object like water, glass, or fabric.

Purposefully put your lens out of focus.

Use a fish eye lens or somehow change the normal perspective to stretch or compress the object/space.

Use motion to distort.

Experiment with post processing filters.

Feel free to add more ideas to the thread!

Here are a few flickr groups:

I hope we end up with a variety of takes on this so we can all get inspired by each other’s ideas and techniques. And of course, we will all hopefully produce images to hang on our walls.

WIT

I came across Josh Sommers when I searched for distortion in Flickr and his work reminded me of this postcard I had years ago that I loved. The postcard depicted the image that I have recreated here.

I love the way falling asleep is like sinking into a bed - even though it is somewhat disturbing to extend the metaphor literally.

I took several photographs (in natural early afternoon light) of the empty bed and me on it in various poses - making sure to keep parts of my body elevated.

Then, using Photoshop Elements I selectively erased and placed the higher parts of me on a photo of the empty bed, added some drop shadows (orienting them on the left because the light is all from the bottom of the bed).

I added a brightness/contrast layer to darken the image (it is supposed to be evening) and used a liquify distort filter to bunch the bedding near where the body was sunken in. Finally, I added a texturized texture.

I like the result even though it is nowhere as finished as the examples that inspired it.

If anyone else knows the painting that this imitates I would love to know because I lost the postcard!

Not part of my Ohio waterfall series; I shot this Pittsburgh area waterfall yesterday.

I need to set an hour or two aside for editing the Ohio photos to get them published.

During the Ohio shoot last week, I noticed that my 4-stop ND filter was still too bright while my 10-stop was way too dark, so I ordered a 6-stop. This was the first time I shot with a 6-stop. If you are thinking of getting an ND filter, 6 is the perfect choice for falls.

Tripod. Not cropped. Not HDR. Zoom in for good luck. :)
