Historically many "American" cars were built or assembled in Southern Ontario or Quebec in Canada. Because Canada has "free" government health-care for all residents, American car-makers used to find it cheaper to make cars in Canada, as they didn't need to pay for the expensive health-care benefits premiums as in the case for the American unionized workers.
The relative low exchange rate of the Canadian dollar was also another major factor.
In the past 15 years, however, the hourly wages of many American auto-workers have fallen so much that Canada has lost its cost benefits, and the Canadian auto industry has shrunk significantly and unlikely to recover in the near future.

On July the 10th, São Paulo will invade Factory Fresh, as LORO VERZ, MUNDANO and APOLO TORRES arrive with an assorted collection of their most recent individual and collective production.
The three artists are presenting different points of view and aspects of the life in São Paulo, Brazil, conveying their interpretations to a strong organism of many environments, the Lichen. The Lichen is the result of the symbiotic association of fungus with a photosynthetic partner, such as algae or cyanobacterium, and they live as a single culture. Although it's severely affected by pollution, it's very resistant to the absence of water and nutrients, being able to survive even in deserts and places taken by a huge cemented, grey area, like São Paulo and other conurbations around the globe.
For a long time describing his paintings as an urban parasite, MUNDANO has paintings all over the city, even in the carts of many "Carroceiros", people that work collecting cardboards, aluminum and other material from the trash to sell to recycling companies. The painted carts run through the city traffic disseminating his messages against the marginalization of this honest and necessary work. On the city’s walls, his messages directly question the corruption of the government, social issues, the pallor and the city traffic. In a way, his characters filled up with eyes are the voice of a silent people.
LORO VERZ decodes the hectic and busy city life style and transforms it into critical, satirical, subversive images. His work is a direct response to the urban and almost schizophrenic state of mind of people living in massive cities as Sao Paulo, where simultaneity and synchronicity are always present. The artist explores different painting surfaces and mediums from oil to spray cans. His style is a fusion of influences that goes from Hyeronimous Bosch to graffiti, from Robert Crumb to Michelangelo. Besides being an artist, Loro is also an illustrator and cartoonist for the Sao Paulo edition of the Metro Newspaper. For this present show, the Lichen's shapes and colors are the structure for his work.
APOLO TORRES work is the most figurative one, but there is a strong relationship between the figure and the surface it's painted on. There is a lot of work on the canvas surface, trying to capture the colors and textures found on the city's walls, and also other living interventions such as Lichen, moss, and human painting. Working on the depth and perspective, but at the same time leaving the elements scattered in the environment, Apolo have been trying to find a way to indicate that all the roots, the ground on which are built our morals and customs, values, beliefs, and even the possession of the space we share with other living beings can change or disappear at any time. Due to the constant transformation of things, the art of Apolo Torres is a visual record of what he has witnessed and felt.
APOLO TORRES, LORO.VERZ and MUNDANO have been highlighted in the recent years, and their individual work is well known in São Paulo and was exhibited at cities like London, Milan, Paris and Tel-Aviv. For the first time in New York, the show promises to be unique, and much focused on their roots.

Having chewed up the streets of London’s east end, British artist Sweet Toof takes a bite out of the Big Apple with his first New York solo exhibition, Dark Horse. Revealing a new series of original works, Sweet Toof’s Trojan Horse greets the city that never sleeps ‘til Brooklyn at the freshest factory in town.
Like the Dark Horse himself, Sweet Toof has risen up the ranks as a graffiti artist throughout 80s and 90s England, where his letterforms and street styles have evolved alongside a rigorous academic practice as a realist painter and sculptor. Heavily influenced by the Vanitas paintings of sixteenth century Europe, Mexican Day of the Dead, Subway Art, and the underground comics of Vaughn Bodé, his characteristic gummy chompers are a true mash-up of street and studio.
Now, the anonymous face that launched a thousand teeth unleashes the beast and charges forward once again—with a fleet of new works and an army of horsemen braced to paint New York by storm. It’s a call to arms in the battle for free expression: join forces, or else just grin and bear it.
BAM! The opening montage flies by with the raucous music and your pulse is quickening, spotting art and artists and graffers and wild creatures and you may be wondering where this is all going until it becomes clear -- you have landed in Banksy world. He'll let somebody else tell the time-twisting story inside a story, and then he'll weigh in with acerbically insightful bonmots....much like the stuff he leaves on the street.
Ellis G. was doing backflips when he saw footage of himself in that opening sequence, and was stoked to be seeing it with a group of people directly related to the street art scene. As is customary for the Brooklyn street artist, Ellis G. had already traced with thick chalk the shadows outside the spot where the movie was previewed .
In a short time, he was doing it inside too.

When American popular culture of the 90’s struck neon gold, I was too young to fully appreciate its products, specifically toys, marketed
towards the kids. Introducing Lisa Frank and Russ Trolls, current BFF’s and objects of my desire. Only now can I look at these things and think, “What the Fuck?! A doll with an aquamarine gemstone for a belly button? Stationary with a poodle in high heels flirting on the telephone? To me, it is an awkwardness that seems more suitable for snarky adults rather than children. This is just the kind of eccentricity and perverseness I love. At times I like to call upon these wal-mart ghosts and incorporate their now defunct limbs into a drawing. Other times, I embrace the idea of the adorable, and focus on cute kids doing cute things. My biggest wish is that somewhere, Daniel Clowes is building a time machine and I’ll be able to take a few of my drawings back to the nineties and sell them on the streets as posters, in exchange for a bobble-head, smiley face ring.
