Keynsham's chocolate factory was built in 1935 by Cadbury's not long after they had merged with another chocolate manufacturer JS Fry and Sons. The site included recreational fields and social facilities. In 2007 Cadbury's announced plans to close the site by 2010 prompting local campaigns against this decision. However in February 2010 Kraft Foods had taken over Cadbury's promising to keep the Somerdale Factory open, a decision they reversed a week after completing the purchase. It is now planned to be closed in 2011.
