Considerable numbers of locally-owned PSVs, belonging to operators large and small, could be found every weekday afternoon during the late 1970s at Yate, near Bristol. Yate is now thought of as a New Town, but in its older parts, along the Badminton road, there were two large factories, "Newman's" and "Parnell's". Newman Industries, I know, is gone. The site became a supermarket ...Sainsbury, I think. I am unsure whether Parnell's is still there. During the war the firm had made aircraft gun turrets. The associated airfield had been sold as building land and eventually became the "aerodrome estate". But by now Parnell's had placed its efforts firmly behind Britain's peacetime consumerist prosperity; the firm made Creda washing machines.
So, at knocking-off time on Thursday 27th April 1978, the buses and coaches gathered as usual in the gravelled car park at the front of the factory, shortly to disperse throughout the north Bristol suburbs and the villages and small towns of South Gloucestershire. Among them was this vehicle belonging to Durbin, Patchway, who traded as Western Roadways. It is of a rather uncommon type, the Seddon Pennine VI, with 57-seat Plaxton bodywork. Durbin's did not long survive the date of this photograph. It was whispered that they had been closed down because Ministry inspectors had been dissatisfied with maintenance arrangements. The business was acquired by another Bristol independent, R. C., O. I. & A. J. Turner, but all trace of the Western Roadways name and fleet soon disappeared.

The Partagas factory in central Havana is one of only 2 open to the public in the city. It is an original building constructed in 1845 and as far as I can tell hasn't changed much since then (think Dickens' workhouse and you get the idea of the inside).
Hundreds of men and women sit facing one direction rolling cigars. In the morning a reader reads them the newspaper over a loudspeaker and in the afternoon, part of a book. It takes 9 months of daily training to learn to roll a cigar. It is very complicated and quite a skill.
No photos inside were allowed. Shame. Definitely a highlight of our trip.

This was previously a Limited Too. It became a Justice in 2009, which relocated here.
It has been a long time since I had done any night time exploring. It was freezing as we picked our way through the abandoned factory, across broken glass and stripped out wire. After heading up the stairs, we made for the roof and set up.After inexplicably losing any ability to control the camera on the roof, we headed down to the long factory floors. I wasn't sure on the current status of security here – there certainly is some. Lights were on, and vehicles on the site. On the corner of buidings are cameras, and so it was important to not show any light. It was very dark inside.
Try hard as we might, we were unable to spot any chocolate wrappers on the floor anywhere in the factory. It was little consolation that those nasty people who have systematically stripped every last piece of metal out of here had remembered not to drop any litter and take it home with them to put in a bin.

There was a day when it seemed like the Brown Shoe Company had a factory in every good-sized town in Missouri. While some have been adapted to other uses, many of them are basically abandoned like the one in Moberly. (Update: This factory has since been demolished. Only the foundation remains.)

You use these textures in 3d games etc where you run around shooting people.
That one would be a building.
You have to get them so the windows bricks etc are virtually the same and do not obviously repeat.
They are slightly different but not much.
The drainpipe is a pain but it was there.
You can see the top windows aren't straight.(yet.)
This ones isn't too sharp at the top so I might discard it.

Some Hero Factory figures on display - as I'm not into this stuff I don't know if these sets are new or not, but I promised I'd snap some pictures for people who are more interested than I am. Sorry it took me so long to upload them!
I can remember when this in Bodmin Road was Red Ring or Precision Gear Machines and Tools Limited. I think I also remember a low, reasonably attractive wall at the front rather than the fence. Also back then there was access on foot to Caludon Castle Park past pools containing tadpoles and newts to the left of the building.

In the late 19th century, the owners of the site wanted to build a factory there but the Victorian city council kept rejecting their design proposals.
So they recruited a top architect, William Leiper. He came up with a proposal, modelled on the Doge's Palace in Venice, which was built in 1892 in polychromatic brick - orange, yellow, blue, with turrets and arched and circular windows.
It is no longer a carpet factory - it has become a business centre instead.
So my friend and I were in Savannah together and decided to go explore the old concrete plant across the Savannah river. It was Probably about 200 feet high(the pictures do no justices to the height) and we spent 20 minuets climbing a series of ladders in the dark. When we finally reached the top my friend was waiting for me we were hot and sweaty very ready for the salty humid wind to cool us off. We opened the door to reveal breathtaking views of Savannah and the low country. After shooting for a few minuets I spot a beige mid 90s mini van on the road sitting there very far away. I tell my friend about it "its nothing" he says. I check again in a few minuets and its gone. But not more than five minuets later the van is back and its sitting at the gate we squeezed through earlier. I think to my self "there probably just taking photos" it drives away to my relief but im starting to get paranoid. But the real unease and adrenaline set in when the van came back and sat at the gate again. My friend sees it to "Pack your shit" I say as I fumble to put my camera away and tie my jacket around my waist. We race down the ladders. What were the vans intentions? Were the calling the police? Were they the owners? Why did they leave and come back? Were all questions in my head. We reach the bottom I fumble my tripod and try to sling it on my shoulder. My friend peeks out the door, the van is gone. We decide to go out a side gate and follow the shore to a ship yard. We get to the ship yard and scale the locked fence. We Enjoyed the gravel road through the beautiful marsh and finally we spot the main road that leads to the ferry dock back across the river in the distance. Thinking we were home free the van long gone from our worries(about 45 minuets have passed)we see the van roll slowly by on the main road its slows down more as it sees us. Still not knowing its intentions we jump over into the mucky marsh and squat there for five minuets. Finally we suck it up and sprint down the dirt road speed walking by the time we get to the main road. The van drives slowly about half a mile back and then turns around. My friend and I now thoroughly freaked out speed walk back to the ferry. On our way a cop car slowly rolls pass us then continues on. We finally make it to the dock only to see the ferry leaving. We wait impatiently for an hour and finally get on it feeling the wait lifted off out shoulders. What was the van doing what were its intentions. Why didn't they confront us when they had the chance why did they just drive slowly and creepily half a mile behind us. I will probably never know.(its probably something obvious like property owners calling the police)

Richman Brothers factory | 1600 E 55th St, Cleveland, OH
I recently found out that this still existed, and wasn't a far drive! Richman Brothers used to be a Cleveland based men's apparel chain, typically found in malls. At some point it was acquired by Woolworth. They pulled the plug on the brand, and this factory, in 1990 when the entire company started to circle the drain. It's been abandoned ever since.
