Agnes STRICKLAND (1796-1874). Educated at home, Strickland benefited from her father's belief that girls should have the same education as boys. In 1840, she embarked on the nine-volume historical work, Lives of the Queens of England. Although co-written with her sister Elizabeth, it was agreed that Agnes would appear as author on all their publications. Their pionerring research was guided by the motto, "facts not opinions".
