All the doodles in this gallery are from the sixtysymbols.com video project and were usually drawn by physicists while they were being filmed.
After many futile attempts to track diving terns, a fellow photographer suggested pre-focusing on the hovering tern and then aiming at the predicted splashdown spot before it descends. This technique worked much better, yielding at least a few reasonably sharp splash shots. Huntington Beach State Park, SC.

Right on one of the main roads at UMass Amherst is this old, abandoned, overgrown farm equipment building--a leftover relic of when the school was just an agricultural college, I suspect. Right next to it, though, is an immense amount of construction aimed at beautifying and modernizing the campus.
This is not a great shot of it, but was the best I could get with my 50mm while I was in a huge hurry to get to an appointment!

Attempting to re-create one of my first nighttime photography experiments.
The first time, I had used glow sticks as my lighting source. Now, I use LED pen-lights that I use in my nighttime photography.
This is pure fiction, for two reasons:
1) I remember the dance majors at Interlochen and in college, and I can tell you without hesitation that they would feed each other to carnivores without a moment's hesitation, especially if it meant that a spot onstage would open up.
2) There were no ballerinas in the Cretaceous Period. Not that we can determine from the fossil record, anyway.

Shooting pool with some good friends. Relaxing way to spend the evening. This is a tiny bowling alley hidden on the 2nd floor of a small strip of gift shops and restaurants. A lot of people don't even know it exists and that's why I like it. The pool tables are full size and the jukebox is good.
