I'm actually kinda surprised I never built an official 'Borg Cube' - I've done a Greeble World but always wanted to take on the greeblist of builds.

Still not as big as I wanted to be, but one thing I really wanted to try to accomplish with this build was the proper 'layering' that's in the cube with the glow underneath.

It's about 2 bricks tall of 'greeble' to achieve the layers.

I guess I should thank the sunset for the pink(ish) bolt!

This storm blew in last night (26 July 23) as we were out to dinner in town. It really dumped the water up in the Speedway/Wilmot part of town but nothing out at the house. I was seeing little flashes off to the West on the drive home so I decided to grab the gear and head out once we got back. This is one of the shots that I got.

The lightning was popping all around, not focused in any one spot at all. The clouds were just one huge bank with no real definition to them so I wasn't really sure where to shoot, I just took a chance! This was shot looking toward the Northwest which is the direction the storm seemed to be headed in.

Had to do a weird crop on this since the storm was pretty much just a big monocloud and I didn't want an acre of grey above the lightning. This was shot with 35 seconds in BULB at f/9 with 29mm. I zoomed a bit, hoping to get a little tighter shot but its a pretty futile exercise to be honest. Mother Nature doesn't seem to care where your focus is!

many moons ago - and now this old farm house and its 3,5 acres of land that still remained of the old farm was sold as re-zoned into commercial property.

For lots of money.

Soon to be razed.

Soon just a memory...

It's futile to resist.. Christmas decorations are here to stay, for the next couple of months anyway.

Stitched from four shots using Samsung NX3000. Samsung 30mm f2 lens, and a custom colour profile.

Smudge, wanting to please himself .. and no one else .... ultimately 'resistance is futile' however long it takes :)

I don’t wish to give the idea that I frequent to back yard of the local hostelry, but, as the sun was out and the shadows deep, resistance is, as they say, futile.

in the face of what happens every day, the word protest appears euphemistic. what you are seeing here is not a demonstration but a crowd defending taksim, so that people can demonstrate and 'occupy' there. yesterday saw a lot of police provocation in order to lure protesters out of the greater taksim area and arrest them, but some strong voices were able to hold back most of the less strategically minded who wanted to throw stones at the water cannons waiting beyond the barricades (a rather futile excercise).

One of the most common sights here now is a sign on the front of houses and fences advising people that the water that you may see being used on the garden is coming from a residential water tank, collecting rain water.

Or do they just have a sign and no tank ?? Just a thought.

There is a total ban on using the town water on the garden, and if you try to sneak a bit, even for washing something in the garden, one feels like a criminal and tends to keep surveying the area for someone who will take exception to your activity and report you to the water police.

As shown yesterday, plantings such as we would have enjoyed in the 20th century, are mostly a thing of the past, and it is common to see grasses and succulents being used, but as is shown here, some of these don't survive either, and I suspect many might succumb to the high humidity that we experience here in summer.

The nursery business here is now in meltdown, and those that haven't turned to being a cafe' or a seller of pots and art pieces for the garden are charging ridiculous prices for plants as the wholesale growers try to recover from a diminishing market.

This shot has been given a bit of a work over in a futile attempt to left it above boring.

I said this fly wasn't getting out of this one, not with this beauty out hunting for lunch.

Mockingbirds can be rather territorial. As such, it gets a little frustrating when the feeders have been filled and then a Mockingbird shows up and tries to chase off any and all birds who approach the feeders.

Having said that, it almost gets comical watching the Mockingbird flying frantically from feeder to feeder to feeder in a futile attempt to guard what so clearly he thinks is his!

With three suet feeders, a seedcake feeder, four seed feeders, a mealworm feeder and two Goodie Bowls for the squirrels, that is just way too many feeders for one bird to guard successfully.

But try telling him that!

Following on from my post of yesterday,I cannot resist skies like this hence the title.

May I take this opportunity of thanking you one and all for all you lovely comments and faves,it`s much appreciated.

so many mornings I've been sitting here during summertime just contemplating... after a while you feel that all what you need in life is in front of you all the rest is futile

Thank you all very much for your visits, comments, faves!!!

Eureka:interjection.

Used to express triumph in discovering or finding something. From the Greek word heurka.

After some time wasted on the first November morning with the futile search for the fog upper limit, I finally landed again at this place shortly before sunrise. Of course, there was no color fireworks for sunrise, but the monochrome mood, the almost mirror-smooth lake and the fact that the lantern on the dock was still burning and provided with its warm light for a color accent, then motivated me to push the trigger...

In the vast plains of Campo de Criptana, in Spain's La Mancha region, stand the iconic white windmills that once inspired Miguel de Cervantes in his famous novel Don Quixote. Built in the 16th century, these majestic structures were used to grind grain, their sails turning with the wind. Legend has it that Don Quixote, the deluded knight-errant, mistook them for giant monsters and charged at them in a futile battle. Today, the ten remaining windmills, some still functional, are a symbol of Spanish heritage, attracting visitors who wander through their creaking wooden mechanisms and imagine the chivalric adventures of literature’s most beloved dreamer.

Please excuse my recent absence as I am still trying to free my car from the driveway. And with more snow on the way, all efforts seem a bit futile. :(

Our Daily Challenge - Work.

I made a start on the garden today. It may have been a futile effort still so far from spring but the fresh air was worth it.

This picture is #99 in the 100 Strangers project.

Meet Liaa.

Last weekend finding a some free time drove to Bethesda and walked around a little hoping to find the next stranger but it was turning to be futile exercise. Part of the reason was my desire to find someone as striking as most of my past strangers.

I was getting to leave without much luck but couldn't help feeling optimistic - based on my past experiences I knew a striking stranger could just pop up out of nowhere. And I was correct as I saw Liaa seated outdoors at a restaurant having a early dinner/late lunch with a friend. I was at quite a distance and across the street yet she easily caught my attention. The only problem was that I was getting a little late and they were in the middle of a meal and in deep conversation. I mulled over it for a while and decided I didn't want to regret a missed opportunity. So I approached them and after apologizing for the intrusion explained the project and my intent to Liaa and her friend Anthony. Though they were a little surprised and maybe even a little amused Liaa agreed to participate. So I waited for a little bit as they finished up their meal and then came by. Liaa was open to the idea of posing as I saw fit - and we did a few test shots and then did a mix trying a couple of poses and backgrounds. Anthony was a great sport and patiently helped with the reflector when needed

Liaa, who is from Washington DC, of course stood out in a crowd and its easy to see why. Besides a striking personality she has a wonderful unique look courtesy of her mixed genes (half Filipino). Her accessories including the nose ring and stylish earrings with the colored hair rounded off her elegant look. Not surprisingly she loves tattoos and these really added that extra dimension to the personality. Liaa is a tattoo artist herself for the last 7 years (in addition to her love for music) and prior to that has been a art teacher. And as I realized during the pictures, she has a lovely smile and warm friendly personality.

Thank you Liaa for being a part of the project, and Anthony for helping out and for your patience. It was really nice talking to you two and wish you both all the very best. If you would like copies of your pics please drop me a note.

Captured eyeing up another Robin as it perched on an old headstone. A welcome distraction for me, during a futile attempt to photograph Hawfinches!

Another year, another Bake Off, but Stormtrooper Bruce never gives up! In spite of never winning First Prize, in spite of some of the most atrocious prizes imaginable STB keeps entering because resistance is futile!

TK-1110: No offense, bro, but that is not the cake you had us taste test last week!

TK-432: Helloo, he does this every time. Bakes hundreds of cakes, makes us sample them until our tastebuds go numb, hours on end... and then in the end comes up with something completely different to enter!

STB: You do tend to exaggerate don't you. But I'll have you know, this is the cake you sampled last week. I just added extra layers and different decorations, that's all.

Chewie: Geois soipwsjme, hiesa doi grrtds!

Fett: Now Chewie, we do this every year. You know the only way you can get inside is wearing your ghost costume! And no talking allowed, otherwise you'll give yourself away!

STB: Uh oh, I think I hear the P's nephew inside, squealing about something! I bet he's behind all the Haunted Alley's decorations again this year.

TK-1110: I can remember when this used to actually be scary, now it's just kinda...

TK-432: Dude, are you kidding! There's that creepy little Jawa at the entrance. And did you read what's doing the photo booth?!? No way am I getting my picture taken with that thing!

STB: OK, settle down everyone, I think they're about to let us in. Remember, since attendance is mandatory, we schmooze around, and then as soon as the Bake Off is over, it's back to my quarters for Movie Night!

Viewing Large is always, fun. Just click on the image.

Imported in the year 1997, still in its original colors and charisma, and having recently relieved from the futile conversion idea of IR, WDG-4 12001 along with its shed mate thunders past Hirehalli outskirts pulling the Mysore bound Vishwamanava express from Belgaum.

I tried to resist posting yet another image of this classic view, but resistance was futile. Some scenes are so perfectly composed that they demand the attentions of any passing photographer or artist. The village can be seen in the 2020 version of ‘Emma.’

The snow is blowing in Montreal today so it's a perfect day to sketch the sofa. Painting in my car would be futile...

There's only so long before running becomes futile....

Nottingham, UK

Nearing sunset on a fall afternoon, a small flock of turkeys gaze up at their feathered cousins thinking it must be great to be able to fly like that, not knowing their cousins are looking down thinking it must be nice to be able to spend most of life in one place. Throughout my days I have observed many people envy others but ultimately find envy doesn't change their fortunes.

Resistance if futile.

-By X-Day, seven more “Fat Man,” type plutonium-core atomic bombs are perfected by teams of nuclear physicists in San Francisco, ready, and have been transported to Yontan Airfield on Okinawa. Three days following the initial amphibious invasion and the failure of the airborne invasion, President Truman and Colonel Lyle E. Seeman order the use of four bombs, nicknamed “King, Chicago, Tokyo with Love", and "Overlord,” to be dropped on the Japanese home islands with primary targets including Osaka and Tokyo. On February 16th, the missions are completed and the bombs are all detonated successfully. With the effects of radiation poisoning not well known at the time, many American soldiers of the 6th Army pushing north to Tokyo are killed or put out of action as a result.

-Japanese merchant sailors are used to ship disguised munitions and supplies to the last dregs of Imperial soldiers fighting in Manchuria. Many are sunk by a dense Soviet and Chinese blockade across the Western coast of the Sea of Japan.

-Despite the harsh weather, Soviet forces engage in intense and fierce combat against the outnumbered but determined Japanese in Manchuria and northern China. Equipped with T-34 and KV tanks, the tiny and obsolete Japanese tankettes are all but wiped out within two weeks. A lack of supplies force many Japanese soldiers to fight with knives and blunt objects, and whole Japanese columns are mowed down by heavily fortified Soviet lines. The combat in Manchuria is reminiscent of the futile and bloody charges across no man’s land on the Western Front of the Great War. Russian soldiers strip dead Japanese bodies, and by the time of their arrival in Harbin, the distinctive uniforms are unrecognizable beneath fur coats, hats, and jewelry.

- www.kevin-palmer.com - When I first moved to Wyoming this viewpoint was one of my first stops. And I always thought it would be the perfect place to shoot lightning. Last month I finally had the opportunity. A severe thunderstorm was rolling in from the west just after sunset. It wasn’t the perfect storm, but I tried my best to work with what I had. The Casper Mountain overlook faces north, but the bulk of the storm went south. When bolts did start dropping below me, they came with heavy rain. Angling my car just right, I shot out the window while (futilely) holding up a towel to block the rain. Water on the lens was inevitable. Just before the downpour erased all visibility, I caught a series of close strikes. It would take several days for my car to dry out completely.

A golden oldie that I have just been sorting as part of my futile effort to make some sort of order out of thousands and thousands of bird photos. This is what it is all about - a precious glimpse of wild birds going about their lives and providing such enjoyment for us twitchers.

Yeats Country, Ballintrillick, County Sligo, Ireland

Along the old back roads of Sligo can be found an area known as ‘Yeats Country’ An area of unchanged natural beauty since it unfroze from the grip of our last ice age. Each year, winter slowly returns & grasps this region in a futile attempt to reclaim. Although this only adds to the beauty of the ‘Gleniff Horseshoe’ beneath the Annacoona Cliffs. May areas like these stay unchanged for another few millennia & beyond…….
