View of Monument Valley from from Highway 163. I call it the Forrest Gump view because it reminds me of the part of the movie that was filmed here.

Probably one of the most photograph highway section in the US.
The famous location where "Forrest Gump" ended his famous across country run in 1980.
Yep, we've seen Forrest Gump run this road...found this image in a folder from our visit to Monument Valley in 2014. Likely it grew dusty because there really wasn't anything too dramatic about the sky or the color. Had fun looking at it again though, remembering how chilly it was and what a cool trip we had with Steve & Kelly to see all this...
Forrest Gump stopped running here
This is a very popular photo to take. My shooting buddy Tim watched the highway behind me as I setup and got my photos. In the far distance is Monument Valley, a place to put on your bucket list if you haven't been there. I was lucky with fresh pavement to have a "clean" shot. The clouds also were perfect to draw your eye to Monument Valley in balance with the road perspective.
Perhaps best known today from the 1994 Paramount film "Forrest Gump," the Marshall Point Light was established in 1832. The current structure was built in 1857 and marks the entrance to Port Clyde, Maine. It is still an active aid to navigation. The lighthouse was automated in 1980.
Created for MacroMondays - Theme - Metaphors
I could put multiple metaphors for this one.
Here's one, "Life is a bed of roses."
And then a transformation of Forrest Gump's simile to "Life is a box of chocolate."
A reference to Juliet's speech about Romeo's name, "A rose by any other name should smell so sweet."
Thank you for your time to view and all of your comments. Have a Happy MacroMonday and Happy Valentine's Day!
On the highway where Forrest Gump decided to stop running. This a gathering area where people come to pose in the middle of the road for pictures as traffic continues to travel the highway.
My submission for the Flickr Friday theme #lifeislikeaboxofchocolates. Took me forever to shoot this! I haven't learned how to capture things in motion yet so this was really difficult for me! But I loved the challenge non the less! ^^
My first idea for this theme was the feather since "life is like a box of chocolate" to me is a reference to Forrest Gump. But then I saw someone else already submitted the ultimate feather picture, not worth to compete with, so I decided to do it a little different and add Curious George to the shot! I was really lucky the library has one available! ^^
Curious George is an interesting character that fits the theme well not only because he's Forrest's favorite book but also because his curiosity always leads him to new places, new situations and new people :) The feather I found this morning when walking around chatting with my sister on the phone, talk about lucky! :)
I hope you like it!
This is another perspective of the popular scene in the movie "Forrest Gump". Not only do you get the feel for the open distance of the highway, but you also get a feel for the wide expanse of Monument Valley.

You may have seen it numerous times in the movies but, your first real-life glimpse of the silhouetted Buttes of Monument Valley is a guaranteed heart-stopping moment!!
There is only one hotel in Monument Valley and it is spectacular...rightly called "The View".
I took this picture from our balcony on the first evening as the Buttes were bathed in the light of the sinking sun.
You really expect to see John Wayne riding out at every turn or, at least, an apache!
We were lucky to have a private tour with our Navajo Indian guide through the interior of the Valley.
More to come later.
Sorry I have been missing for so long but will attempt to catch up!
Located at Port Clyde Harbor, the lighthouse was established in 1832. It is a 31-foot tall white brick tower on a granite foundation. A raised wooden walkway connects the tower to land. The lighthouse appeared in the 1994 movie Forrest Gump, which was the end point of his epic coast to coast run.
A view of the desert landscape en route to Monument Valley. It was a bit difficult with vehicles constantly passing at high speeds. I had to run back and forth between the spot and the parking area every few seconds.

Ya sé que no está completa. Culpa de las prisas. Pero resulta curiosa la forma de invitar a pasar al establecimiento.
I know it is not complete. Blame the rush. But it is curious how inviting pass the store.
"Black and white" makes it so difficult every time: How to boost the appearance of a macro subject without being able to play with colours? So good that the wife has bought this little indoor fireworks pack some time ago....

After a 80+ pictures in explore I suddenly seem to have a series of pictures that even show up on Explore Frontpage. I really like it as joining Flickr I wanted my picture to be seen. I joined several groups to post them too, I tagged and geo-tagged them. I found wonderful contacts (more than I'm able to visit every day) and learned a lot more than I ever expected. Thank you all for that.
Reading about Explore and its frontpage on flickr central and other places I found some very controversial discussions about the "Explore Game". Thoughts on making Explore at ...-Wink's Place-... provided me with a quote from Wink that seems to express my way of thinking quite good:
"I've always tried to reciprocate comments and fav photo's even before I knew about Explore and I'm not going to change the way I am because some folks think it's gaming the system just because my way coincides with the algorithm."
That said: This picture will not make it to the frontpage as I don't want to add a border on the sides to make it appear like a square format (as portrait formats don't show up on frontpage)
Day 5 and 6 of our vacation trip
Savannah, GA
Independent Presbyterian Church
Closely modeled after his own designs for the First Congregational Church of Providence, Rhode Island, architect John Holden Green designed the original building on the present site.
Present at the dedication of this building on Sunday, May 9, 1829 was John C. Calhoun, President James Monroe, and members of his cabinet. Reporting on this occasion, The Columbian Museum and Savannah Daily Gazette wrote that "from grandeur of design and neatness of execution, we presume this church is not surpassed by any in the United States."
The magnificent edifice of 1819 was destroyed by the great fire of 1889. It was decided to reconstruct the sanctuary exactly as it had been. Hope you enjoy the view.
If you got time, join me on a short walk through Savannah.

Have a great new week and thanks for the visit! Our bags are packed and we are heading back home to Vancouver tonight.
I love the movie Forrest Gump...There is scene around monument valley that is similar to this perspective...When Forrest decides to jog "across america" and his journey ends shortly after this...I always love this scene so when we went out west, we had to try to recapture it. It was really windy, getting ready to storm. A sand storm was already making the view soft, almost like fog. Just a lot of fun...
Near Monument Valley...
It's at mile marker 13 on US Route 163 in Utah. Thanks, Frank .
