A foggy autumn day in the Ashdown Forest (from the archives).

The Sun is seen here setting through the thick forest on our first snow and ice of the winter

Sunrise over the New Forest on Monday morning. Best sunrise for a long time.

Pine and Birch in winter.

A really weird tree... :)

My first venture up to Pwll Y Wrach (Witches Pool) Nature reserve in Talgarth near Brecon.

This is a smaller waterfall, not the main one.

I particularly like the red sandstone in this area.

This is the bobby sock forest in the Lower Geyser Basin. Thermal runoff killed the trees and minerals were then absorbed to give them a bobby sock effect. Taken during my Snow Day of Awesomeness in Yellowstone.

I was feeling a little small standing between these giant redwoods. Here is the place in California you can easily realize just how insignificant you are compared to these massive giants so large they almost block out the sun. Prairie Creek State Park which is part of the Redwoods National Park located in the extreme northwest portion of California.

The coast redwood tree (Sequoia sempervirens) named Hyperion,[85] at 380 feet (120 m). It is followed by Helios at 377 feet (115 m), and Icarus at 371 feet (113 m), both also in Redwood National Park.[86] For many years thought to be the tallest, one specimen named simply "Tall Tree" in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park was measured at 367.8 feet (112.1 m). "So many people have stood on the base of the tree that the ground is hard packed", said Professor Stephen C. Sillett of Cal Poly Humboldt university in the 1990s.[87] The top 10 feet (3.0 m) of the tree died in the 1970s and fell off in the 1990s.

sounds like good times :)

Our Daily Challenge - Blue

This Forest Smurfette lives deep in the Forbidden Forest, in a place called Smurfy Grove. She has two blue braids, blue skin, and wears a single purple flower on her cream-colored hat.

Forest near Bash Bish Falls. I think I was still technically in New York State here, right on the Massachussetts border. I sometimes forget how many people live in cities, plains, deserts, etc. and find this sort of view exotic. I love the forest. I am fortunate that I live near some very beautiful forested areas. This one made explore today, I am very surprised.

I noticed this amazing glow coming from the forest while cruising along the Applegate River above the lake yesterday. Right below the Cook and Green trailhead in extreme Northern California. It is very difficult and maybe impossible to get in this area from California because of the Red Buttes.
