I was driving up the road to the Hoh rain forest, and passed by this beautiful scene. Took this from the car window!
A touch of aurora soon two weeks ago. From around midnight. Ringerike, Norway. Sky is 20 secs and iso 6400. Ground is 90 secs and iso 3200. Both are f2.8.
Nikon D40 with infrared conversion and AF-S Nikkor 18-55 mm kit lens. Converted to Black&White in post-processing, otherwise it would appear in Red&Pink, which just looks ... weird.
Plants, or more specifically, leaves, thin twigs and blossoms, reflect almost all infrared light that hits them. If they didn't they'd get far too hot. That's why they appear white in infrared images, giving the scene a spooky appearance, though in this case, a rather cozy spookiness.
