It's great to be totally absorbed in just enjoying a natural event. High water and surging waves over sharp rocks meant an hour sped by. Every shot is different , and the timing was so important, to prevent everything disappearing in a sea of foam. My mind created castles, valleys, waterfalls and cities. Lekker uitwaaien en genieten aan de Brouwersdam vanmiddag.
Thanks for your visit, comments and/or faves.
I have been after a shot like this for a long time – a shorebird caught in the middle of a foam line created by the gentle waves as they reach the shoreline. This little sanderling was scurrying back and forth between the waves searching for tiny morsels to snack on. It makes for lots of “throw aways” on the card to get the bird and the foam just right. I just love how the light highlights the bubbles in the foam, the bird and the incoming wave.
My sincere thanks to all who spend the time to view, like or comment on my photos. It is much appreciated!

Another photo of the sunrise from Llanddulas beach. The Sea was quite rough but fascinating. Some of the waves were about 6ft in height before they broke on to the beach. The Sea foam left behind was blowing everywhere!
The sea was so restless that it was crashing of the boundaries such as cliffs, rocks and piers and breaking down into white foam. It certainly provided a lovely contrast to the blue sky and sea.
American White Pelicans would fly up to the weir on the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon to fish. The water was quite turbulent there so I'm suspecting the fish might be easier to catch.

GLC's high bay where their drop table and crane are located is much different than it was when I was a kid. Recently GLC spray foamed the entire high bay to help insulate and keep the building warm. Until they did this the entire section of the shop was large windows that were cold drafty and not very efficient, also with the upgrade to make up for the lack of sun light they installed LED lighting. Here is what it used to look like. flic.kr/p/s7ACNQ

The masses have descended upon the Western New York and Pennsylvania this Summer to catch what will likely be the swan song for the railroad's Big MLWs. WNYP M636 685 approaches the station sign for Keating Summit with Hawbaker empties bound for the Norfolk Southern interchange at South Driftwood.
*Note, I purposely took a shot with the photo line in it. For the most part, the increased crowds have behaved and I got a "clean" shot a little later as trains always creep past here to start the steep descent to Emporium at a controlled speed. I just wanted to document the scene.
Don't dip your beard in the foam, Father. It's long enough without you watering it. (Overheard in Rivendale).

This American Oystercatcher was running along the beach but some impressive sea foam caught up with the bird. It looks like a big thumb there made out of foam! Cool.

One of the two trains bringing out the foamers this day was E274 with KCS 5015 in the lead, running just ahead of Q162 with BNSF power.

"If you look at ocean water in a clear glass, you’ll see that it’s not clear but full of tiny particles. Seawater contains dissolved salts, proteins, fats, dead algae, detergents and other pollutants. If you shake this glass of ocean water vigorously, small bubbles will form on the surface of the liquid.
Sea foam forms under similar conditions – but on a much grander scale – when storms roll in and the ocean is agitated by wind and waves. The creation of sea foam can occur often in gargantuan proportions.
Most sea foam is not harmful to humans and is often an indication of a productive ocean ecosystem. But when large harmful algal blooms decay near shore, there are potential for impacts to human health and the environment. During blooms popping sea foam bubbles are one way that algal toxins become airborne. The resulting aerosol can irritate the eyes of beach goers and poses a health risk for those with asthma or other respiratory conditions."
