This photo was made about three and a half years ago. The update is that this wonderful young woman is still making art and looking forward to, perhaps, making it her career. Mined from my Camera Roll.
With a brand new 72 color Prismacolor set, Donna's drawing up a storm. Well, actually, she's not stopped since taking up colored pencils about a month ago. She got herself a 24 color set of fine-point Stabilo markers, as well. I am so psyched over what she's been creating.

I met Tori at a meet up for graduates of the University of Michigan’s (now) Penny Stamps School of Art. It was held in Atlanta about eighteen months ago.
When I visited the gallery I failed to make a copy of the list of artworks. I’ll endeavor to get the details from the gallery and post them as soon as possible. This is a small painting.

Bharathanatyam is a form of Indian classical dance that originated in the temples of Tamil Nadu. Bharata Natyam is known for its grace, elegance, purity, tenderness, expression and sculpturesque poses. Lord Shiva in his Nataraja form is considered the God of this dance. Today, it is one of the most popular and widely performed dance styles and is practiced by male and female dancers all over the world, although it is more commonly danced by women.
Bharata Natyam is considered to be a fire-dance — the mystic manifestation of the metaphysical element of fire in the human body.
Maha Shivaratri is a Hindu festival of India and Nepal celebrated annually in reverence of the God Shiva. It is believed to be the day shiva was born to save the universe by drinking Gaaja the poison and drug that emerged from the churning of the ocean (samudra manthana). While most Hindu festivals are celebrated during the day, Shivaratri is celebrated during the night by keeping a "jaagaran" - a night-long vigil as its believed that Lord Shiva saved the universe from darkness and ignorance. This day is also believed to be the day that Shiva was married to the Goddess Parvati. The Maha Shivaratri festival, also popularly known as 'Shivaratri' (spelt as Sivaratri, Shivaratri, Sivarathri, and Shivarathri) or 'Great Night of Shiva', marks the convergence of Shiva and Shakti.
The festival is principally celebrated by offerings of Bael leaves to Shiva, all-day fasting and an all-night-vigil (jagaran). All through the day, devotees chant "Om Namah Shivaya", the sacred mantra of Shiva. Penances are performed in order to gain boons in the practice of Yoga and meditation, in order to reach life's highest good steadily and swiftly. On this day, the planetary positions in the Northern hemisphere act as potent catalysts to help a person raise his or her spiritual energy more easily.

Gaye Su Akyol from Turkey played a sold out Alice last week for a hungry (part Turkish) crowd. But charming Luna Ersahin also blew me away with both her voice and charm.
