Thanks Dad
FEC 292 hustles out of Miami with the daily rock train out of Hialeah Yard. This train is known to have stellar power on it.
This was the second train I saw on my second day in Florida that had a Champion SD40-2 leading the way.
292 was on my bucket list of things to get while on vacation and I will surely go back next April and do the same. I would have liked to chase this but after them departing the yard around 1645, rush hour traffic was in full force and US 1 was a zoo, not to mention that most trains on the FEC move!!
Not all was lost though. What made this day worth it, was my Dad came along and wanted to come into my world and see why trains make me who I am. When we first got into Daytona the day before, he knew I wanted to take a trip down to Miami and get this train, but he also wanted to see how passionate I can be with my hobby. We talked a lot to and from Miami. We talked about my depression and how I am struggling. We also talked about how I like to get lost into taking pictures of trains as a form of therapy from said depression. Most importantly though, is I got to spend time with my Dad. We may not have had the best relationship over the past 5 years, but we're working on it to make it stronger.

CSX T444 races past Collier Yard in Petersburg, VA with coal for Titan's Medley cement plant via FEC.
We saw nothing moving in Titusville so we continued on to Stuart. We had lunch with a long time friend and had plenty of time to set up for #202 with the Stuart water tower in the background. Then it was time for a beer at the Stuart Burger joint near the tracks before our next train.

On a Saturday morning, I set up at the south end of Magnolia siding hoping to catch train 103. Instead a horn to the south brought what I assume is train 204. A GEVO and four EMD's lead the way north.

After meeting 226 at Magnolia, new rail rolls south thru St. Augustine, FL during high tide. 7-30-19
Palm trees, golf courses, and the FEC are a few things that immediately pop into mind when thinking of the state of Florida; and all 3 of those are on display as afternoon stack train 105 zips through the Daytona Beach Golf Club on the way south. Just missing some retired Yankees, large lizards, Mickey Mouse, and a Florida man to complete the full Sunshine State scene!
Whippany River 148 on the Morris County Central 10-31-1976. This Pacific was built by Alco in 1920 for the Florida East Coast Railway and was purchased from them by U.S. Sugar in 1952 to haul sugarcane in Florida. With the advent of disels U.S. Sugar sold the loco into private ownership and was purchased back by them in 2016.Restoration took 4 years and after 50 years she once again hauled sugarcane on 05-28-2020 in Florida.Howard Kent Jr.
Another oldie from the archives.
This shot was my first time ever shooting the Florida East Coast and it was a bit of a mad scramble to make this happen. After nailing the SCFE at Port Mayaca we checked the ATCS while making the long walk back and saw that a southbound (undoubtedly 101) was in striking distance. It was less than a 30 min drive exactly due east to Stuart from the shores of Lake Okeechobee. We soon realized watching the monitor that we'd never make Stuart so veered southeast toward Jupiter to try to cut him off.
Jupiter is a tight shot as all wider angles would have to be accessed by boat or permission from wealthy private landowners. There is no public shoreline that we could find west of the bridge. But we made do and I was quite pleased with the results. The sweet light and clouds in the sky certainly helped. I can see why folks love these Champion scheme units. Man they sure do dress up a boring GE!

The closest to industrial switching in the area that can be found easily, with mainline lashups. FEC CIR-05 shoves the pax portion on the Commerce Park industrial spur, which presently serves Banner Supply, a building materials wholesaler who takes 12' US Gypsum sheetrock by rail.
As of January 14, 2017 it was announced RBBX will be no more come this May, due to declining attendance and politics. So this shot will no longer be possible.

But today the train was a little later and shadows from the bridge were creeping over the tracks. We moved to ground level near the Alice Street grade crossing for this photo.
