Sporting the retro scheme, train #204 graces us with a matched consist under perfect skies as it crosses the San Sebastian River in St. Augustine, FL with FEC GP40-2 416 on the point.
The FEC has their GP40 hooked up to two more FEC GEVOs, ready to cross the bridge onto their first time on FEC rails.
The railroad looks natural in a summer downpour. FEC train 103, newly instated to replace 109 and run in daylight, passes the Hialeah racetrack on its final miles into Hialeah Yard. The train's schedule is reminiscent of the old 125. Tanks for Motiva Enterprises are on the bottom, and presumably the Fort Lauderdale manifest is tagging along, likely to be sent north on 965.
FEC 2155 is one of 20 all-purpose 89'-4" flat cars built by Bethlehem in 1975 for the railroad. Note the take-off on the Trailer-Train scheme; these were not former TTX cars, but built new for the FEC. This car was photographed with Maersk containers on May 4th 1986 at Jacksonville FL by Tom Murray. JL Sessa collection
Just looking at this photo, you might not be able to tell if this is from 2010 or 2016. Just the day before we had been lucky enough to shoot FEC 210 with a Champion SD40-2 and GP40-2, so when on Saturday this 226 rounded the curve my jaw dropped.
On Saturday morning we had a very small window between sunrise and our departure for the airport. Our good fortune continued as #226 arrived in gorgeous light in plenty of time for a leisurely trip to Jacksonville International. This concludes our trip. Thanks for looking and I hope you enjoyed the photos and commentary.
I barely got my camera out to catch northbound 218 rounding the curve east of the San Sebastian River just after sunrise . From here train 218 has a straight shot to Bowden Yard south of Jacksonville. GP40 435 in the new FEC blue scheme is up front. Two SD40-2s are following, one in the champion scheme and the other in the modified UP yellow livery.
Florida East Coast Train 101 passes through Melbourne, Fla. with two Champion-painted GE ES44C4s on lead. This attractive livery is not long for this world as FEC owner Grupo México is going with a new scheme much like their their big railroad, Ferromex.
Florida East Coast Railway hot shot overnight intermodal train 210 from Hialeah Yard in Miami is about 30 miles from its destination at Bowden Yard in Jacksonville on a gorgeous spring morning.
Here we are looking across the San Sebastian River from the foot of Helen St. The train is near about MP 35.8 on the Flagler Sub mainline. Beyond can be seem another historic structure courtesy of FEC founder, St. Augustine benefactor, and standard oil tycoon Henry Flagler - the dome of the 1889 Memorial Presbyterian Church.

God is Good
I woke up early like I do everyday and checked the Cocoa Cam. It was showing a Champion SD40-2 leading the 204. I then checked my weather apps and it was calling for mostly sunny skies in St. Augustine.
I arrived into town a few hours before the train. Why? With school in session and daily commuting going on, it doesn't take long for St Augustine to become a complete zoo,
There were some small light clouds and they were quick to move out of the way. It was looking good until about 10 minutes before the train showed up. As the train rounded the corner a sucker hole opened up and God threw me a bone. Two EMD's take a long 204 through St Augustine on the way to the termination point of Bowden Yard.

Florida East Coast train #905 glides into the curve on the approach to the bridge across the San Sebastian River in St. Augustine, FL.
This is probably my favorite of all the Veterans units done thus far.
The last time I saw 430 it was sitting in NSB and I was making its portrait in the dark blue dip. This is a big improvement.
The regular evening northbound passes through Hobe Sound, FL on its way to Ft. Pierce from West Palm Beach with a pair of GPs. July 2021.
After getting cloud fucked for a FEC Champion, it was a nice surprise when another Champion came around the corner for the shot over the San Sebastian River in St. Augustine, FL. 8/30/14
