Found this neat original slide of the Florida East Coast Champion motive power in 1947 on Ebay. The slide was rather scratched and faded but is now presentable. Love these early streamliner paint schemes. Unknown photographer.

What's snow?! In December 2015, the annual FEC Christmas train rolls through Saint Augustine on a beautiful Florida morning. We couldn't have asked for better weather on this one, since we haven't seen real snow since 1989.

NS 238 led by a FEC loco entering 7 Mile Yard limits at Charleston, SC

On Thursday the effects of the derailment were still being felt and the early morning southbound fleet arrived in Melbourne much later than usual. We caught #121 before the sun hit the tracks, but just 20 minutes behind was #123 with its load of containers for Crowley. This is one of my favorite photos of the trip.

Coming to Bayard

NS 238 led by an FEC Unit clears Downtown Summerville, SC.

Florida East Coast train 226 flies along the Dixie Highway (also known as U.S. Highway 1) between Magnolia and Bayard, Florida, on the morning of January 11, 2015. Jacksonville-bound No. 226 is led by brand new GE ES44C4 No. 820, dressed in classy “Champion” colors—a scheme that will be missed—again.

A pair of GP40-2s lead FEC 204 over the San Sebastian River bridge at St. Augustine on a picture perfect Spring morning.

An FEC coal train has just been delivered to West Jax yard by CSX, and is now being taken to Bowden by a pair of FEC GP's. I hear this move is done about once or twice a month, and since it can happen during any time, a daylight catch is a big plus.

The FEC I grew up with when visiting my grandparents still existed in 2006. Here, a trio of repainted blue GPs pull a northbound pig train crossing the drawbridge at Jupiter, FL. May 2006.

The sun is setting fast as FEC 107 swings into St. Augustine soaking up the golden evening sun with a solid 'Champion' painted consist.

Shortly after sunrise, FEC 210 makes its appearance in St. Augustine running through the marsh in the golden morning light.

Just minutes before sunrise, FEC 210 eases North through the Marsh at St. Augustine with a solid Champion scheme consist.

FEC 202 cross the San Sebastian River at St. Augustine at one of the most popular angles along the FEC with an all Champion consist.

FEC 430 pulls out of the Trujilio & Sons industrial spur in Hialeah, FL on the FEC downtwon job. Customers have dwindled down to almost nothing on the FEC here, with the only regular remaining shippers being Florida Bulk and Trujilio & Sons and a few shippers getting served as needed. The spur to the right still serves Vision Candles, where a tank of wax is spotted every month or so. Several customers have disappeared within the last year or so: Omni Transloading once received reefers and boxcars almost daily just a year ago or so, but now appears to have consolidated all its rail traffic to another warehouse near the airport. Gilda Industries once received hoppers of flour every few weeks but no longer appears to do so. Dependable Warehousing received boxcars a few days a week but hasn't gotten service in a good year. That leaves Trujilio and Florida Bulk as daily shippers and Vision Candles, Isaac Industries, Petro Choice, and the water treatment plant with infrequent switches. Miami, FL

Florida East Coast's Veterans unit, FEC 430, is on the point of local 905 in the hole at Magnolia for a meet with northbound train 202.

Train 129 is reflected in the still waters of the San Sebastian river on a cool early April evening in the sunshine state.

As a pop-up Florida morning thunderstorm brews in the background, FEC 202 is Northbound at St. Augustine with an increasingly rare all-Champion consist.

FEC SD40-2 720 takes train 103 south by City Point on their way to Ft. Pierce.

City Point is the northern terminus for unit rock train 336 and the place where Brightline's Orlando line splits off from the FEC mainline at "Cocoa Junction".

A tardy FEC 202 swings through St. Augustine as the sun climbs annoyingly high in the sky.

421 returns north to Bowden from Bayard after coming down lite power to work the branchline that is behind the apartments behind the train.

FEC 204 slowly heads North through the marsh at St. Augustine with a GP40-2 pair in charge.

A pair of GEVOs wearing the new Groupo scheme lead a fast moving FEC 206 Northbound through Bunnell after sunset.

FEC 210 basks in the golden morning light as they break the morning silence in St. Augustine with a Champion Scheme GEVO leading a Grupo Mexico Transportes livery GEVO. Unfortunately, very soon the Champion scheme GEVOs will be a thing of the past as they are rapidly repainting the remaining ES44C4s into the GMT scheme.

FEC 105 blazes a trail South through Bunnell during the peak of high sun.

After a crew change, FEC 101 departs Sunbeam as it splits the searchlights signals on its journey to Miami

Florida East Coast train 905 is seen shoving loaded insulated boxcars into Saddle Creek Logistics, located at the end of the Bayard Industrial Lead in Bayard, FL.

A bit of a high sun shot, but a trio of FEC deuces in the champion scheme is hard to pass up.FEC southbound train #101 rolls past MP 37 in Saint Augistine Florida. 09/10/ 14

The 24 hour shutdown on FEC over Christmas caused some serious power the next day. FEC 101 on the main south of Sunbeam with a mighty lashup, for a long southbound trip.

FEC 905 heads South through the Marsh at St. Augustine as high sun sets in.

Southbound Florida East Coast train passes through the West Palm Beach, Florida Brightline station.

Just minutes after sunrise, FEC 210 makes its appearance in St. Augustine in the golden morning light.

A roster shot of the wrecked FEC ES44C4 as the 3 lead engines back up to the engine shops after uncoupling from their train.

This unit was wrecked near Naranjo, Sonora when it was leading a northbound train and it hit a major washout, resulting in the engine landing on the conductor's side and several cars also derailing.

Guadalajara, Jalisco.

One more look at Train 101 as it blasts through Bunnell, FL on 19 February 2015, with shadows about to overtake the whole scene.

While in Daytona Beach for the TransAm races I left the racetrack a few times to catch some FEC action. Here northbound train 226 crosses the San Sebastian River in St Augustine, FL.
