Reliable if somewhat heavy, it provides an automatic capability to a GGDF infantry section in the field. Somewhat rare outside of the GGDF, it's rarely found in the hands of irregular armies and mercenaries.

Pennsylvania Railroad's class F39 flatcars built in 1955 for TrucTrain were a breakthrough in piggyback service. Prior to that time railroads used existing flatcars retrofitted for hailing trailers.

The class F39 cars were the first constructed specifically for TOFC service. The 75-foot cars were long enough to carry two 35-foot trailers, the longest in service at the time, and included AC&F's new 'Model A' trailer hitch which could be raised into position with a power wrench and eliminated the need for other tie-down equipment — speeding up loading and unloading and making interchange of TOFC cars much more practical. The PRR & N&W formed Trailer Train Company in late 1955 to pool their TOFC rail cars and all the class F39 cars were sold to Trailer Train early the following year; "Pennsylvania" was painted over and TTX markings were added. By 1960 32 railroads had become TTX members, and TOFC had a firm foothold in intermodal business.

In 1957 40-foot semi trailers became legal, essentially making the 75-foot car design obsolete. Trailer Train responded with their first 85-foot cars in 1958.

The F39 flatcar and US Mail trailer are Walthers models; the orange Roadway trailer is a Sylvan Scale Models resin kit. Both trailers their rims and tires replaced and license plates added and ICC bumpers and mud flaps added / or replaced. Then both were weathered with oil washes and light airbrushing.

The Perseus Galaxy Cluster, also known as Abel 426, is located 250 million light years away in the constellation Perseus. It is one of the largest objects in the observable universe, and is surrounded by a cloud of multi-million degree gas. Additionally, one of the deepest musical notes, a B-flat, has been detected coming from the cluster with a time period between oscillations of 9.6 million years (which is 57 octaves below the keys in the middle of a piano). The Perseus cluster is part of the larger Perseus-Pisces supercluster.

Coupled "O" tram cars on the bridge over Bradfield Highway, North Sydney, approaching Milson's Point. Taken from Greenway 309 Flats complex, Officially Opening on 28 March, 1954. (Photographer and accurate date to be determined. possibly a picture by the late John Alfred.-the author of "Across the Bridge".)

The train in the picture appears to be set F39. A complete train of Tulloch cars. This set of cars had experimental automatic door equipment fitted in the early 1950's. Why I suspect its set F39, all the doors are closed. Even on a cold day you generally would have had the odd door open. Even though F39 was a success, the door mechanisms were removed & the cars then reverted to manual door operation. (Comments received are from Dunedoo and others are acknowledged with thanks).

WEEK 31 – Carrollton, GA, Target (III)

Edging closer to the back left corner, with our eyes on the sporting goods department along the perimeter-hugging side of this actionway. Sporting goods, as we saw four clicks back, had already been updated to its new P17 hanging department sign, but I neglected to get a picture of that – between it and the P93 Home Improvement sign across the aisle, you can definitely see where my priorities were XD

Also interesting in this shot is how the store printed out temporary aisle numbers for those F37, F39, F41, etc. markers, even though all of them were absolutely devoid of category plaques at this point in the remodel so the numbers probably weren’t much help to anyone either.
