Sadly this charming older Esso station was demolished not long after I took this photo and a pristine new BP station was built in its place - glad to have recorded it before it went. The canopy here looks pretty old but in fact it was less than ten years old as back in 2009 the site had a gullwing canopy still standing! People gathered at an intersection in Bloomington to protest against the actions of the BP, the company formerly known as British Petroleum. The oil spill from a BP oil drilling operation in the Gulf of Mexico has surpassed the Exxon Valdez spill, and it continues to gush oil as of the day of this protest.

First the Exxon closed down early in 2008 and then a few months later the BK was gone, along with others in Smithfield and in Franklin. More info here.

I've only been in here a few times. This one time I came in here in 2004 or 2005 this crazy old bat was yelling at the cooks and the manager because was demanding that her bacon for her burger be flame broiled too. She was holding up the line, and everybody was griping. That was the last time I was in there.
