ExtinctionRebellion are creating good photo ops with their all-over-the-place approach......Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square, Whitehalll, the Strand....Eight places across London.

Some people believe they are undermining their own cause. People have heard it all before.

I’m no advocate for the private car driver, but XR probably just irritates them!

I didn't spot Mr Rees-Mogg at this Extinction Rebellion event, but this gentleman was the closest I could find.

This Extinction Rebellion (ER) protest is being carried out

by SIXTY countries across the world today!

An Ipsos Mori poll in 2013 showed that 59% said the planet was heading for disaster.

That figure for 2019 is 78%. Yet, the government is very slow in campaigning

over the issue, and the population does not really get a clear message about

how bad the situation is.

The last Friday of each month sees the regular Speakeasy night at the award-winning Edinburgh Bookshop - some socialising, book browsing, chat, some gin and tonics then a talk with an author or other speaker.

For April's Speakeasy it was a very timely subject with Patrick Dunne talking to us about taking part in the Extinction Rebellion movement which has been staging demonstrations and protests in numerous cities in the UK and Europe and further afield (with young Greta Thunberg being one of the most publicly visible demonstrators).

It was a terrific evening, generating a good bit of debate about what individuals can do to try and play a part in not just trying to avert environmental catastrophe, but in changing our politics and economic system to something more humane and fair, that involves us all.

Patrick and others will have a Fringe show in Edinburgh this August on this time, you can follow him here twitter.com/paddywpd

The Speakeasy takes place the last Friday of each month from 5.30pm in the Edinburgh Bookshop in Bruntsfield, right on Holy Corner, and is free, all welcome to come along: www.edinburghbookshop.com/

This protest took place on the land of the Dharawal and Yuin peoples. ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS WILL BE ABORIGINAL LAND!

Bushfires are ravaging the country, tearing down houses and destroying lives & ecosystems. While we lose our homes and loved ones, have our towns and cities choked by smoke, or sit on beaches hiding from flames, Scott Morrison is letting us burn. The climate crisis is causing endless destruction, but fossil fuel bosses rake in profits from burning our planet while politicians give them handouts.

At the same time as drought is rife across the country, here in the Illawarra mining has been allowed to expanded into our local water catchment, which will drain up to 3 billion litres a year.

We demand:

- Tax fossil fuel companies to fund bushfire relief for communities in need

- Sack Scott Morrison!

- Increase funding for our fire services

- No new coal, gas or oil

- No mining in the Greater Sydney Water Catchment

Easter Sunday the 21st April 2019, the warmest Easter on record. Protestors from Extinction Rebellion had blocked Waterloo Bridge for a week and this was the end of the protest as Police moved in to clear protestors who were given the option to move or be arrested. Although 1045 protestors were arrested over the course of a week of protests no Police were hurt during arrests and protestors remained peaceful at all times.

This was the most specific sign I saw - good to know the detail you want changed!

Thousands of police from across the South East helping in the arrests.
