Pink Azaleas found at Descanso Gardens. This is a very old bush and this year's bloom was spectacular due to our recent abundance of rain.
- www.kevin-palmer.com - An aurora corona is one of the most incredible things you can experience in nature, that I would put right up there with a solar eclipse. Before this solar maximum I had never seen it from the lower US since displays like this are usually confined to the Arctic. But I've now been lucky to see 4 coronas in Montana and Wyoming, and this one may have been the most colorful.

Taken at The Town of Beacon Falls Fireworks
July 9th, 2011
Beacon Falls, CT
I'm not going to go and ruin your future experimentation by giving you step by step instructions on how I did this (incase you feel inspired by this in any way), but i'll at least tell you that I did NOT use Photoshop to create this. I used only my tripod and camera.
I was getting kind of bored shooting photographs of single bursts of fireworks, at this past year's 4th of July's firework display. I wanted to capture the fireworks from a completely different perspective, and luckily, I feel like i was more than successful in doing so.
I started getting experimental as the shutter was being held open, and I couldn't have been more amazed, or more surprised to see this abstract image on the LCD. I began taking a whole bunch of shots similar to this, until I finally nailed the effect of what i wanted to do, and how I wanted to do it. I pointed my lens towards the general area where most of the fireworks were bursting at, and i guess I just timed this perfectly to be able to pull it off... even better and more interesting than I had expected.

as I was photographing this branch of Thistles, one of them exploded… probably the warmth of the lights? Did it feel there was too much 'sun' suddenly? LOL
Thousands of flighty feathery seeds, I had to quickly put a bag over it, they went flying off all over!
Thistle is the common name of a group of flowering plants characterised by leaves with sharp prickles on the margins, mostly in the family Asteraceae.
Prickles occur all over the plant – on surfaces such as those of the stem and flat parts of leaves.
These are an adaptation that protects the plant against herbivorous animals, discouraging them from feeding on the plant.
Interesting bit: Carduus is the Latin term for a thistle (hence cardoon, and chardon in French), and Cardonnacum is the Latin word for a place with thistles.
This is believed to be the origin of name of the Burgundy village of Chardonnay, Saône-et-Loire, which in turn is thought to be the home of the famous Chardonnay grape variety.
I wish you all the very best and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments, likes and faves. Very much appreciated.

My favorite species of tree. It blesses us with vibrant colors in the fall and sweet maple syrup in late winter. Its sturdy branches let us swing in a summer breeze. Surviving snow, frigid temperatures and freezing rain, it inspires us to never give up hope when it breaks bud in the spring.
Straight out of the camera. This colorful explosion took place at Quaker Lake in Allegany State Park, NY on October 14, 2019

Dorm was quickly startled out of bed by a jet-like sound, and we all walked outside to find this. Though we are unsure what the source of the explosion is, it is fair to assume that a gas line is more than likely involved. Nonetheless, this is a night I will never forget.
Una nocturna con la dificultad del tremendo viento que hacia, capaz de tirar una cámara al suelo.

As the sun rises a wave crashes off the rocks in Acadia National Park, Maine. The Thunder Hole area in Acadia produces some of the most spectacular wave action to be found. On this particular day the wind, coming in strong from the east, was helping quite a bit.
