Got bored and decided to try out some minifigure photography. Broken tree made a great desert landscape for our resident explorer.
My "Misty Morning on Ullswater" is still one of my favourite shots. I have cleaned some of the dust specks and tidied up a little before framing and thought some of you might like to see! Reached #405 on Explore!

West Woods | Marlborough | Wiltshire
[EXPLORED] 20th April 2016 I am really pleased to have this image included in EXPLORE (My 12th EXPLORE to-date). Thanks for all the faves and nice comments. I really appreciate the support and welcome any constructive critique, while I continue to grow and develop my skills as a landscape photographer.
West Woods:
West Woods, near Marlborough in Wiltshire is a very beautiful plantation of beech trees on a former ancient woodland site.
Today, the woodland site is managed by the Forestry Commission. There is a long and gradual process under way to increase the biodiversity of the woodland by introducing native species other than just beech, through the promotion of natural regeneration and planting. I think that's why there is a red mark on some of the trees (although I'm not sure)...
This woodland becomes very popular in late spring due to the fantastic displays of bluebells which carpet the forest floor in certain areas. There is a good network of trails including an easy access route.
Did You Know?
There are different species of Bluebells, but the type that grow in West Woods are the native bluebells (Hyacinthoides non-scripta). Here are half a dozen facts about this beautiful flower:
1. Deep violet-blue. A genetic mutation occasionally causes white flowers
2. Flower stem droops or nods distinctly to one side
3. Almost all flowers are on one side of the stem, hanging down to one side
4. Flowers are a narrow, straight-sided bell with parallel sides
5. Petal tips curl back
6. Flowers have a strong, sweet scent
Location/Directions:
If travelling from afar, come off the M4 at junction 15 and take the A346 to Marlborough. Travel through the High Street and on the A4 towards Avebury & Calne. Approximately two miles outside Marlborough take a (sharp) left turn, which is signed Clatford. Drive up to the crossroads and straight over. About one and a half miles along this road the woods and car park are sign posted on the right.
Postcode for the car park is SN8 4DY

I've really enjoyed taking photos of bluebells in 2016. Having this image explored and viewed over 17,000 times has inspired me to write up some ramblings and I've also added a small collection of images on my blog. Feel free to check it out if you have a few spare minutes.
This planetary explorer (factory name: “PEX-1ML”) was designed as a mobile base (serving also as a laboratory and an observatory). It has all the necessary equipment to explore terrain of new planets. Its drivetrain and suspension was built to handle very rough terrain, while its body was constructed from materials that can withstand almost any weather conditions.

Magnolia is a large genus of about 210 flowering plant species in the subfamily Magnolioideae of the family Magnoliaceae.
The natural range of Magnolia species is rather scattered and includes eastern North America, Central America and the West Indies and east and southeast Asia. Some species are found in South America. Today many species of Magnolia and an ever increasing number of hybrids can also be found as ornamentals in large parts of North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The genus is named after French botanist Pierre Magnol, from Montpellier. See Origin of the name Magnolia.
Magnolia is an ancient genus. Having evolved before bees appeared, the flowers developed to encourage pollination by beetles. As a result, the carpels of Magnolia flowers are tough, to avoid damage by eating and crawling beetles. Fossilised specimens of M. acuminata have been found dating to 20 million years ago, and of plants identifiably belonging to the Magnoliaceae dating back to 95 million years ago. Another primitive aspect of Magnolias is their lack of distinct sepals or petals. The term tepal has been coined to refer to the intermediate element that Magnolia has instead. Magnolias are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including Giant Leopard Moth.
Magnolia grandiflora is the official state flower of both Mississippi and Louisiana. The flower's abundance in Mississippi is reflected in its state nickname, "Magnolia State". The magnolia is also the official state tree of Mississippi.
One of the oldest nicknames for Houston, Texas Is "The Magnolia City" due to the abundance of Magnolias growing along Buffalo Bayou.
In general, Magnolia is a genus which has attracted a lot of horticultural interest. Hybridisation has been immensely successful in combining the best aspects of different species to give plants which flower at an earlier age than the species themselves, as well as having more impressive flowers. One of the most popular garden magnolias is a hybrid, M. x soulangeana (Saucer magnolia; hybrid M. liliiflora x M. denudata).
The bark from M. officinalis has long been used in traditional Chinese medicine, where it is known as hou po (厚朴). In Japan, kōboku, M. obovata has been used in a similar manner. The aromatic bark contains magnolol and honokiol, two polyphenolic compounds that have demonstrated anti-anxiety and anti-angiogenic properties. Magnolia bark also has been shown to reduce allergic and asthmatic reactions.
Magnolia has attracted the interest of the dental research community because magnolia bark extract inhibits many of the bacteria responsible for caries and periodontal disease. In addition, the constituent magnolol interferes with the action of glucosyltransferase, an enzyme needed for the formation of bacterial plaque.
Stena Explorer is a high-speed ferry owned by Stena Line and operated on their Holyhead–Dún Laoghaire service between Great Britain and Ireland. It is a member of the HSS 1500 class of high-speed ferries introduced and developed by Stena Line from 1996 onwards. The HSS 1500 class vessels are the largest catamarans in the world.
Stena Explorer was constructed by Finnyards in Rauma, Finland, at a cost £65 million. Construction commenced in June 1994 and was completed in February 1996, before entering service in April 1996.
The vessel is a catamaran, and was designed with the aim of providing a comfortable and fast service. The sailing time between Holyhead and Dún Laoghaire is 119 minutes.
Power is provided by four GE Aviation gas turbines in a twin combined gas and gas (COGAG) configuration. The vessel employs four Kamewa waterjets for propulsion.
The HSS class of ferries were designed to allow quick turnarounds at port. A specially designed linkspan provides ropeless mooring and allows quick loading, unloading and servicing. Vehicles are loaded via two of the four stern doors and park in a "U" configuration. When disembarking, vehicles drive straight off via the other two doors.
