so guys. i really wanna SLR.
QUESTION: tell me what SLR you use and why you love it.
I am thinking of saving for a t1i and then *maybe* for a 50mm f/1.4 prime lens. I have a 50 1.4 on my film camera but I want the usability and the ability to see the results right away, thus digital.
i hope its a good choice, its a lot of money!
Our dryer is about to explode, so we're drying things the old-fashioned way. My inner cheapskate is considering making this a permanent drying-method, to save on PG&E costs. My inner normal-person is, as always, horrified.
I made some firecrackers with some homemade black powder and needed a test subject. Henry was a willing and cheerful volunteer. The biggest problem I had was the residual smoke from the fuse, so I'm working on an electronic trigger to set off the black powder.

This LaCrosse Technology battery charger has an undocumented feature. It can wake you from a sound sleep.
Jim and I were staying at the Howard Johnson motel in Edson, Alberta, Canada, when disturbed by a loud sound. At first I thought there was a homicide in the next room, but it turned out to be my battery charger increasing its carbon footprint.
Turns out quite a few of these chargers have exploded, according to reviews on Amazon.com. Some reviews indicate LaCrosse customer service is rude, but will replace the product with a supposedly improved model. Unfortunately, at least one reviewer claimed LaCrosse will not preemptively replace a charger that has not yet exploded.
I plan to contact LaCrosse to see if they can provide a safe replacement.
Jim spent about half an hour cleaning carbon powder from the walls, ceiling, floor and fixtures in the bathroom. After all, this was a non-smoking room and we did not want to be charged a penalty fee accessed to smokers.
Jim is detail-oriented, and he left the bathroom cleaner than we found it.
One of the photos I uploaded shows the text on the back of the charger, in case you are a sound sleeper and want to order one for yourself.
In this installation the suit was strung so as to simulate a man convulsing backwards into the air wearing stereotypical commuter clothes; a suit and tie with a trilby embellished on top, flying off where his head would be. The piece is intended to express that each individual is complex, not just a commuter who becomes absorbed into a mass.

A stroboscopic homage to Dr. Harold "Doc" Edgerton. The bullet causing the card to explode like this can be seen at the right hand edge of the splatter field. I'm not sure what made this card explode more violently than the rest. My guess would be a more square hit, but it looks cool regardless.

And this, my friends is what happens when you fall asleep with a cigarette and set fire to your oxygen cylinder. For the record, it wasn't me. Actually, this is not supposed to happen - there is a pressure relief device in the cylinder valve that is supposed to prevent it from exploding. I was told by the firemen in the building that new underwear was required - two were in the next room when it blew and "it scared the crap out of them." Thank goodness, that's all it did.

I wanted to see how well a fire cracker exploding would convert into a picture and I don't think it disappointed at all. I stopped down my camera as far as possible (f36) and put the ISO at 100 and I still have to lower the RAW exposure so it wasn't so bright. Other than that I sharpened it up a little and here is the result. Pretty cool I think.
Lighting info: I used one SB800 in Remote mode triggered by the explosion of the firecracker itself. I didn't want it too close, just in case any debris might in any way damage the SB so I put it up high on a light stand pointing straight down on top of it with a grid spot attached to it. It fired at 1/8 power at a height above the firecracker of about 5 feet.
The flash helped to get a picture of the firecracker together. It was spreading apart so fast that if there was no flash, you would just see red blurs moving away from the white center.
Thanks to www.diyphotography.netfor the gridspot.
