Main story

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

　あらすじ

　大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。

　上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。

　そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。

　大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。

　「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」

　ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。

本編

人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。

　ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。

　もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。

　二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。

　再生だ。

　明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。

　それが再生の意味だ。

　十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

Animare is a tool that allows you to pose your avatar using a HUD controller. I use it to refine poses on the fly. I prefer to use external programs to make actual poses but this gadget is great for fine tuning them to fit better or even give poses you already have, some subtle differences and finishes.

Two emergency ambulance attendants from the Gross Mortuary, 1017 Central Avenue, Hot Springs, Arkansas, hurry a critically injured man into an awaiting 1966 white Pontiac Consort ambulance in Hot Springs in 1967.

In the days before paramedics, backboards, and splinting, the goal of good ambulance service back then was hurry to the scene and quickly "load and go."

Even at that, Gross Mortuary operated an excellent 24 / 7 ambulance service, giving prompt, careful care to thousands of Hot Springs residents from 1909 to July 31, 1974 when it ended its ambulance service.

This accident occurred on East Grand Avenue in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The injured man's young son later died in nearby Quachita Hospital (now closed). This compelling action (copyrighted) picture was taken by Bill (Bunny) Dever of Hot Springs, a skilled commercial police photographer and a good friend of mine for many years. His great pictures give a glympse of funeral home-operated ambulance services in the 1960s - 1970s.

The ambulance pictured above was a Pontiac Consort ambulance made by Superior. A Consort ambulance had no dividing wall between and driver and the rear patient area. The ambulance was actually designed to hold three patients on stretchers! Two stretchers (one a wheeled stretcher and the other a folding cot) could fit easily side by side on the ambulance floor, and a third folding stretcher could be suspended from the ceiling.

It had a (very loud) Federal Q2 siren, four alternating red bullet lights on the four roof corners, and a giant red beaconray in the center of the roof.

This ambulance, known as "Gross 6," served Hot Springs faithfully from 1966 to 1970 when it was replaced by a bright yellow Superior Van ambulance. Gross Mortuary ended ambulance service July 31, 1974.

Note that the two attendants are lifting the stretcher into the ambulance -- now days, paramedics use so-called one-man stretchers which fold up into the ambulance without having to be lifted, sissies.

The colors of the sunset result from a phenomenon called "scattering". Molecules and small particles in the atmosphere change the direction of light rays, causing them to scatter.

Scattering affects the color of light coming from the sky, but the details are determined by the wavelength of the light and the size of the particle. Scattering also explains the colors of the sunrise and sunset. Because the sun is low on the horizon, sunlight passes through more air at sunset and sunrise than during the day, when the sun is higher in the sky. More atmosphere means more molecules to scatter the violet and blue light away from your eyes. If the path is long enough, all of the blue and violet light scatters out of your line of sight. The other colors continue on their way to your eyes. That is why sunsets are often yellow, orange, and red. And because red has the longest wavelength of any visible light, the sun is red when it’s on the horizon, where its extremely long path through the atmosphere blocks all other colors.

Let me explain the symbology behind this picture:

I know that right now it seems that the whole USA is focusing mainly on the 2008 elections, but I care more about the political situations around the world, particularly Venezuela, since that's where my mom is from and that's where some of my family lives.

Ever since Chavez was elected president, I feel like the whole Venezuelan government/political situation is broken, or ruined like this mug. Sure, you can still use the mug, but it's broken..

I was raised to be seriously Anti-Chavista (against Chavez, Venezuela's president, and his whole administration,) and I know he's always been a horrible president (well, really more like dictator) but I was really shocked when I heard he was assisting FARC. I know FARC is a funny name, but there's nothing funny about them. FARC is a Colombian extremist group who kidnapped hundreds random people and held them hostage for years (most of them still haven't escaped). On top of that, they kidnap children from the Venezuela/Colombia border and turn them into child soldiers. This has been an ongoing problem in both Venezuela and Colombia for years, and Chavez has publicly spoken about how we need to stop them, and supposedly taken some action about it. but it turns out that he was SUPPLYING THEM WITH WEAPONS.

how could ANYONE be supportive of a group that makes children into CHILD SOLDIERS!? how could a LEADER OF A COUNTRY even do that!? and the worst part is, that he LIED to the whole world about it, and he's not even getting impeached or anything! How is it that Bill Clinton gets impeached for having an affair, but Chavez doesn't get impeached for supplying FARC with all the supplies they need to do what Chavez is trying to stop them from doing!?

But of course, Chavez is a known liar, because he promised during his presidential campaign in 1998 that he would change his name if there were still homeless children on the street by the time he was done with his term, and he hasn't done ANYTHING about it, and he's been in power for almost 10 years! (and, by the way, the length of a presidential term in Venezuela is 4 or 5 years (I can't quite remember), but of course, he changed the constitution so that he could be in power for even longer!)

the whole situation pisses me off to no end.

and that is why I took this picture.

Main story

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

　あらすじ

　大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。

　上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。

　そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。

　大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。

　「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」

　ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。

本編

人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。

　ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。

　もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。

　二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。

　再生だ。

　明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。

　それが再生の意味だ。

　十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

Earlier in the year, we were given tickets to the Maleny Botanic Gardens and Birdworld in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. With various issues disrupting life it took us until recently for our friend May (Maybe) and us to visit the park. Now May has already posted a couple of delightful shots and Jenny agreed reluctantly for this one to be made public. But before we get into that, I would like to borrow May's eloquent statement about the park (I am sure she won't mind) with which we agree explains the great work they do. We love birds to be free but sometimes, humans have to step in to help the animal kingdom. The birds, often not native species (like those shown here) live in very large aviaries that are made to feel as comfortable as possible in well constructed environments. They are well fed with food specific to their needs, allowed to develop social and family links with other birds in their species and in particular, are free to engage in social activity or not as they please with visitors who fund the park and their well being. I can say for sure there is a lot of love here as birds and humans elect, if they wish to cross the divide and interact.

Here is May's statement.

"I I know some of you will be unhappy with me for posting images of birds in captivity, but before you do so, 70%+ of these birds have been rescued from the illegal bird trade or have been donated to the park once their owners have died and other family members couldn't or wouldn't look after them. Many of you will know that our parrot friends are greatly prized on the Black Market and many do not make it out alive from their first harrowing journey. Those that do are often deeply traumatised by the experience and find themselves in less than suitable surrounds for their physical and intellectual needs."

Jenny and I absolutely adore interacting with birds on their terms. We had a wonderful Sulphur-Created Cockatoo for many years who was the love of our lives (apart from my human family of course) and we have a variety of birds drop by for some food on a daily basis on their terms. The other thing is that yes, we would prefer these birds to be free. As May states, there are good reasons why this cannot be so for those at the park including the fact that many are not native species.

You will notice that birds have a great affinity for Jenny's hair. She hates her hair but they don't. They tease and pull it out, no doubt, it would make ideal nesting material! Perhaps these two are getting ready to set up house! As you can see, many of he birds just love interacting with humans. We know that during lockdowns when the only visitors were staff that the birds reacted very strongly to the loss of interaction.

Main story

　あらすじ

　大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。

　上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。

　そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。

　大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。

　「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」

　ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。

本編

人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。

　ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。

　もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。

　二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。

　再生だ。

　明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。

　それが再生の意味だ。

　十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

I spent last weekend catching up on developments at Lyndon Towers, after my long absence on Honeymoon. I spent a very enjoyable couple of nights sharing my bed with my housekeeper - the wonderful Mrs Danvers - and also had lunch with my ex-husband, now known as Lady Lucille Dexter. ‘Lulu’ is relishing married life with Sir Charles Dexter, who is already pimping her out to his friends and business contacts. Both parties are delighted with this arrangement. Over her salade niçoise and white wine, Lulu explained just how happy and fulfilled she feels in her new life as an aristocratic harlot and hotwife!!

I also managed to squeeze in coffee with the amazing Ms Rita Brasshouse from the West Hampshire and Test Valley Women’s Institute, who (as you will have read here) has successfully transformed our local W.I. into a Female Supremacist Prostitutes Collective. Rita is also in the process of fully feminizing her own husband: he now typically wears a modest housedress over pretty slips, pantyhose and practical low-heeled shoes. This former truck-driving male now happily cooks and cleans for Ms Rita, and waits obediently on her younger boyfriends when they drop by for recreational sex. Rita does not permit her husband to leave the house unless wearing feminine attire. We exchanged some fascinating confidences about how to organize and control a modern female-led relationship!

Another day ends in the desert.

Sitting in the tea room, a colleague, definitely a colleague rather than a work mate, asked the other day why I went to the States so much. His tone was, well, let's just say it was less than conciliatory.

'Don't you think you've been enough?'

'Don't you think you should let someone else have a month long break?'

I briefly pondered this outbreak of conversation with someone whom I rarely see eye to eye. Then I let rip.

'Firstly', I replied, 'piss off and mind your own business.'

'And for seconds, if I've got to explain, you're never going to understand.'

I think he called me a stuck-up prat as I left and returned to what I was doing.

Couldn’t explain how excited I was when I first got the ability to take double exposures on Polaroid. Not capable. It was a whole new thing to learn with a medium I already loved. It’s been years since I started, and I still figure out new things or get ideas from people smarter than I am. I’ve just scratched the surface of shots like this one of Allie. Any dark surface on the first shot makes the second show up better, so I use everything available: shadows in parking garages, the dark itself then using flash on my subject, and of course, the back of Polaroids I’ve already shot. I really can’t see photography getting old because there are so many things to try and people to meet.

Another shot from the LSE Library in London. Note that this is not open to the public. I emailed them in advance for permission. It is necessary to explain the use of the pictures which are to be personal use only and in particular no commercial use is allowed and no pictures of Students without their permission as they have had complaints. Best time when there are less students around is mornings or out of term time. I would suggest allowing 4 working days for a decision.

This redesign of the building was by the Architects Norman Fosters and was opened in 2001. I thought that was a suitable date for the opening considering that the scene could have been out of the film.

The picture was taken handheld with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20mm lens at 10 mm. A single image edited in RAW. A high ISO was needed to get a fast enough shutter speed producing Noise which I removed with Topaz DeNoise. Topaz Clarity was also used. There being a lot of lights I decided to make them a feature using another Topaz filter, Topaz Star Effects. This creates a star out of any bright light. I used this on a duplicate layer with a layer mask to confine the effect only to the lights I wanted it for.

I suppose I'm in a dark mood this evening which might explain my choice for the day.

Did you know that black olives start out as green olives until they are soaked in a solution containing lye? Lye is sodium hydroxide (NaOH). Also known as caustic soda.

This is the same stuff that is in Draino! You can make soap with it. In the old days, they threw dead animals into a vat of lye and covered it up. Come back a week later and no more carcass. Just a coffee-colored soup.

Ever wonder what happened to Jimmy Hoffa?

The number #1824 on this tank car indicates it is carrying sodium hydroxide. Tank cars carry (about) 22,000 gallons - varies with the load and type of car. That makes a lot of Draino.

she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

　あらすじ

　大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。

　上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。

　そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。

　大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。

　「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」

　ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。

本編

人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。

　ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。

　もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。

　二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。

　再生だ。

　明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。

　それが再生の意味だ。

　十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。
