♫ Keith Whitley - When You Say Nothing At All♫
It's amazing how you
Can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word
You can light up the dark
Try as I may, I could never explain
What I hear when you don't say a thing
The smile on your face
Lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes
Saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me wherever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all
All day long I can hear
People talking out loud (oooh)
But when you hold me near (you hold me near)
You drown out the crowd (the crowd, the crowd)
Try as they may, they can never define
What's been said between your heart and mine
The smile on your face
Lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes
Saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me wherever I fall
You say it best (you say it best) when you say nothing at all
The smile on your face
Lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes
Saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me wherever I fall
You say it best (you say it best) when you say nothing at all
(You say it best when you say nothing at all
You say it best when you say nothing at all)
That smile on your face
The truth in your eyes
The touch of your hand
Lets me know that you need me
(You say it best when you say nothing At all
You say it best when you say nothing at all)

An unusual obelisk stands on the central square of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. It was established in 1792 by the famous scholar and church leader - Metropolitan Plato (Levshin). On each side of the obelisk is a medallion with a text explaining exactly what role Laurus played in a given era ...
Many people know the monastery of St. Sergius of Radonezh as the spiritual center of Russian Orthodoxy and a collection of remarkable architectural monuments. But not everyone knows how important he played in the sharp turns of Russian history. And it’s hard to say in which country and how we would live today, if not for this monastery.
St. Sergius taught people primarily love and forgiveness. He himself set an example of humility in the most difficult situations.
Thousands of pilgrims come to the Lavra daily. There are 11 temples in the monastery.
Trinity Church is not the largest in the architectural ensemble of the Lavra, but it is here that the majority of those who came to the monastery are in a hurry. The whole time the temple is open for people to visit, the flow of people going into it does not stop: pilgrims hurry to bow to the relics of the founder of the monastery, St. Sergius.
As I already explained in my previous image of similar title, this is what is going on in this Northern Paradise. We passed by watching in horror and pushing the accelerator to the very bottom to get away from this madness as fast as possible. ... Call me selfish, call me a friggin individualist, but I will NEVER stand in a line experiencing such places in a melee ;)
Needless probably to add that their two minibuses were almost blocking a very narrow road while about 500 metres further there was a parking lot! Gosh I hate this new photographic vandalism!
Vultures are magnificent birds, with a bad rep. Sitting on a plateau watching them fly in, and waiting for their turn to eat was such an amazing sight.

In the previous photograph I explained the physical law of entropy. It is actually the most fundamental law in the universe. The only way entropy can be overcome is with an additional input of energy, i.e. work.
Here we see a once workable hut reduced to a ruin by the law of entropy. All things must return to their natural state. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. You get the idea. So here we see the old hut's iron roof rusting away, its wooden boards rotten, and within a few short years (perhaps less) it will collapse with only the brick chimney left standing.
Already the trees are starting to grow inside and twist the building around on its axis. I didn't go inside because I'll wager there were one or two snakes in there too. And all Tasmanian snakes are venomous.
"How rude! That's not how you kill a vampire...", explained the vampire queen to her "food" before eating him.
Messed around with GIMP today.

The sand dunes and sand beaches are amazing on the east side of the islands - - there is huge deposits of sand on these islands from the windblown sand of the Sahara dessert which has blown across from ocean and simply been deposited here. The local tour guides like to explain it as "we are filtering the air before we send it across to North America"

This is a photograph taken in woodland on an Autumn afternoon, using a simple Nikon D3100 set at f/18.0 at 1/8th exposure. You slowly move the camera vertically to achieve the blurred effect. A few Administrators, especially in smaller groups think this is CGI. How do we explain this to them, iPhones have a lot to answer for.

November 2016 Supermoon setting behind the
Waldo Canyon Fire Burn Scar as the Rocky Mountains glow red/orange from the morning sunrise
Colorado Springs, CO.
At 24 hours past its peak, I suppose this is no longer really a true "Supermoon", however it was a wonderful sight to watch as I started my day ...
Note: Having taken several photos shortly after moonrise the past couple of days, I also observed that the PoV changes between moonrise and moonset such that the moon appears to rotate more than 90 degrees during its travel across the sky. This explains why the orientation of the craters often appears so different between one moon photograph and another. :)
And who better can explain this than David Attenborough, we need to pay attention to what he says and learn how we can make a difference!

Robin - Erithacus rubecula
Wash and Brush up!
Double Double click!
.
The European robin (Erithacus rubecula), known simply as the robin or robin redbreast in the British Isles, is a small insectivorous passerine bird, specifically a chat, that was formerly classified as a member of the thrush family (Turdidae) but is now considered to be an Old World flycatcher.
The robin occurs in Eurasia east to Western Siberia, south to Algeria and on the Atlantic islands as far west as the Azores and Madeira. It is a vagrant in Iceland. In the south-east, it reaches the Caucasus range. Irish and British robins are largely resident but a small minority, usually female, migrate to southern Europe during winter, a few as far as Spain. Scandinavian and Russian robins migrate to Britain and western Europe to escape the harsher winters. These migrants can be recognised by the greyer tone of the upper parts of their bodies and duller orange breast. The European robin prefers spruce woods in northern Europe, contrasting with its preference for parks and gardens in Ireland and Britain.
Attempts to introduce the European robin into Australia and New Zealand in the latter part of the 19th century were unsuccessful. Birds were released around Melbourne, Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington and Dunedin by various local acclimatisation societies, with none becoming established. There was a similar outcome in North America as birds failed to establish after being released in Long Island, New York in 1852, Oregon in 1889–1892, and the Saanich Peninsula in British Columbia in 1908–1910.
The robin is diurnal, although has been reported to be active hunting insects on moonlit nights or near artificial light at night. Well known to British and Irish gardeners, it is relatively unafraid of people and drawn to human activities involving the digging of soil, in order to look out for earthworms and other food freshly turned up. Indeed, the robin is considered to be a gardener's friend and for various folklore reasons the robin would never be harmed. In continental Europe on the other hand, robins were hunted and killed as with most other small birds, and are more wary.
Robins also approach large wild animals, such as wild boar and other animals which disturb the ground, to look for any food that might be brought to the surface. In autumn and winter, robins will supplement their usual diet of terrestrial invertebrates, such as spiders, worms and insects, with berries and fruit. They will also eat seed mixtures placed on bird-tables.
The robin features prominently in British folklore, and that of northwestern France, but much less so in other parts of Europe. It was held to be a storm-cloud bird and sacred to Thor, the god of thunder, in Norse mythology. Robins feature in the traditional children's tale, Babes in the Wood; the birds cover the dead bodies of the children.
More recently, the robin has become strongly associated with Christmas, taking a starring role on many Christmas cards since the mid 19th century. The robin has appeared on many Christmas postage stamps. An old British folk tale seeks to explain the robin's distinctive breast. Legend has it that when Jesus was dying on the cross, the robin, then simply brown in colour, flew to his side and sang into his ear in order to comfort him in his pain. The blood from his wounds stained the robin's breast, and thereafter all robins got the mark of Christ's blood upon them.
An alternative legend has it that its breast was scorched fetching water for souls in Purgatory.
The association with Christmas more probably arises from the fact that postmen in Victorian Britain wore red jackets and were nicknamed "Robins"; the robin featured on the Christmas card is an emblem of the postman delivering the card.
In the 1960s, in a vote publicised by The Times, the robin was adopted as the unofficial national bird of the UK.
In 2015, the robin was again voted Britain's national bird in a poll organised by birdwatcher David Lindo, taking 34% of the final vote.
He looks slightly sceptical here but in fact he seems to like snow and wasn't pleased when I urged him to return indoors. :)

Took a beautiful walk through Barker Dam to Hidden Valley. These life giving Joshua Trees are home to many animals including Scott's Orioles. The interior of the Meyer May House, a 1908 Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece, capitalizes on the sunlight streaming through leaded-glass windows and skylights to the golden oak trim and furnishings. It's a rich and elegant design.
Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959), developed a style of architecture that he explained as an "organic design in harmony with humanity and the environment."
Though he is most famous for Fallingwater, considered his masterpiece Prairie Style house in Pennsylvania (see picture in first comment below), and The Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan, NYC, my wife and I like the Meyer May House best. Its rich tones and airy light are both beautiful and comforting. Our favorite house (perhaps until we visit the next one, hahaha).
Tomorrow it's the turn of another guy.

Iyashino-sato preserved village, with Mount Fuji in the background.
Iyashi no Sato (いやしの里) stands on the site of a former farming village on the western shores of Lake Saiko. The village was destroyed by a landslide during a typhoon in 1966. Forty years later the village's traditional thatched roofed houses were reconstructed and reopened as an open air museum and traditional craft village where people can learn about the culture and try out and purchase different local handicrafts.
The village is now made up of more than twenty houses that have been converted into shops, restaurants, museums and galleries. Each of the shops specializes in a traditional craft such as pottery, incense or weaving. Some of the handicraft shops, provide hands on workshops for visitors to try making traditional products, including washi paper, charcoal and soba noodles.
A few of the houses contain museums, such as the Watanabe House which has exhibits on the daily life of the farmers who used to live in the region. There is also an Erosion and Sediment Control Museum explaining the causes of the landslide that destroyed the village, and techniques used to prevent such disasters.
The remaining houses include an art gallery that displays local artworks, a produce shop and a portrait studio where visitors can try on kimono or samurai armor for a small fee and take photos. Restaurants and rest houses can also be found around the village.
The hardest part of taking this photo was holding the camera in one hand, and simultaneously holding Mia, (my terrible Tonkinese cat), out of the way with the other. I tried to explain to Mia how bad it might be to have your face bit off by a snapping turtle, but as usual, she really wouldn't listen, and kept trying to jump right in the middle of things.
All ended well - picture taken, turtle trucked it's self to the pond, and Mia spurted off to find something new to get mixed up in.
when i showed hannah the photos i'd taken of her home, she took my hand and pulled me back over to this spot by her kitchen table. she told me that it meant a lot to her that I had chosen this as one of my six shots because it is her favorite thing in her entire home. she went on to explain to me what each piece meant. i could tell how happy it made her to share all of those priceless memories.
I am out of new shots for this series and am planning a return to take more. For now, thank you for visiting Hannah's home. ....yay I just found out that she told David's mom that she WANTS me to come take more :)
I cannot. A double-exposure, the first thing one would jump to, is out. How could the second exposure on the same frame just selectively put in the three rectangular images without all the surrounding details? Very weird. I cannot possibly explain it but maybe one of you can. This was not taken through a window. I was standing out on our balcony in the open air.

Second picture of the series Hat Stone.
(Yes, believe it or not it is the same place, but from a different point of view towards the East and the great stone to the backlight. As explained in the previous picture, the place is very difficult to control light)
Dawn on the El Sombrerico Beach, several minutes before sunrise.
The name of this amazing beach is due to the huge rock shaped like a magician's hat that juts into the sea.
There are not many photographs of the area, may be because access to this beach is a little difficult, so after driving about 20 minutes fully night by a bad gravel road, you reach this cove by small cliffs headlamp in my head.
For this shot, I was lucky clouds drew lines in the sky and I could compose from that angle.
Moon also appears to the center-right of the frame due to missing several minutes for the sun to make his way out on the horizon.
To reach this picture in one unique Raw, I combined a four steps neutral filter and black card technique.
I hope you like it. Have a nice Tuesday. :)

As I explained in the description to my "Suburban Dreams" slideshow, each of these photographs are related to the other. www.flickr.com/photos/luminosity7/52638166831/in/datepost...
They are not random shots, but each tells us one more thing about the nature of a typical modern working class suburb. I always work in series, but this collection was most definitely planned. The twilight setting and light is all part of the creation of a mood. Is it possible to find things of beauty in the midst of the mundane and ordinary? That's more about philosophy than photography. And why I am such an odd fit for Flickr.

Hampshire is not particularly well blessed when it comes to records of Barred Warbler, so an obliging bird would be a draw for local birders. The presence of this incredibly cooperative bird in mid-December, long after it should it have headed to equatorial East Africa explains it's popularity....
Certainly the most obliging Barred Warbler I've ever seen :)
