Finally the 'truth' is revealed - the dinosaurs became extinct when they were all impaled on giant straws from outer space. No really. Nothing in the fossil record, you say? Well, straws don't fossilize, obviously!

Fishing line power transmission.
The first time I saw the Timescapes teasers I knew I would have to build a camera slider and explore the timelapse world for myself.
After a lot of research on this forum and a lot of late nights I have finally tested my motorised camera slider.
Lego gearset (don't laugh it works a treat) fishing line power transmission, aluminium door frame extrusion, Arduino micro controller and a 12v stepper motor. Note the termination of the fishing line with stainless steel thimbles and cotton covered hair bands, this takes up any harsh speed changes or direction changes.
All my demo timelapses have worked just fine.
The attached photos might explain the build better.
With the Nikon F being such a pivotal model in the evolution of the 35mm SLR, it's only fair to give Nikon the floor for a mini- history lesson on camera viewfinders.
"An almost imperceptible flutter in the finder" is probably overstating things; but otherwise this summary is accurate (if a bit plodding). Could anyone in 1961 have imagined that fully electronic viewfinders would become commonplace in the 2020s? Here Nikon is still defending a place for its rangefinder 'SP'; but the dominance of the SLR would push it aside within just a couple more years.

The man who talked to us when we were shooting. Sometimes people who is interested in a camera or a photograph talk to when we take pictures outside. He started talking about from a camera to a wartime story and he told us how he survived during the war.
When he was 15 years old, he worked to put the dead bodies in order to identify or buried them in the hole and that job made 10,000 yen in the daily wages. While there were many people returning as they see the bodies, he worked hard and started an electric shop after the war. He said with a smile " The postwar electric shop made money next to a thief."

The title of each image explains the comparison as plain as can be. You can just start with the 10 foot comparison or the 200 foot comparison and use the photostream thumbnails to the right to step through the demo frame-by-frame. You can also click on the tag "200 vs 300" to see all of the thumbnail images at once and go from there.
I used my car as the subject, because you can relate the size of a car to anything you wish. The license plate is about 6" tall (155mm) and 12" wide (305mm). The car is about 5 feet (1.5 m) wide from the outer edge of one tail light to the outer edge of the other tail light.
I did not crop the images at all. They are shown full frame. I downsized the image from 300 ppi to 72ppi to make it easier to show on Flickr.
The D300 is a cropped sensor with a "magnification factor" of 1.5X. This means that the "equivalent focal lengths" in this comparison would be 300mm vs 450mm if the test was done on a full frame camera. Please make whatever calculations you need to make in order to make this comparison valid for your camera.

Quelqu'un pourrait-il m'expliquer pourquoi ce cliché a été visionné un si grand nombre de fois sans susciter le moindre commentaire?

A handy reference to the sayings
I love Asian art history and have taken Chinese and calligraphy. Running across a book of pithy Chinese sayings having to do with futility I translated them from regular Chinese (kaishu) to the ancient ‘seal script’ (zhuanshu) which I manipulated freely to help convey the message. These sayings are rendered as etchings in black ink, combined with impressions of actual collectors’ seals in red. The center of the page is empty as it often is in Asian art. Some actual seals can be seen at Chinese Seals. All prints were done in 2002.
What explains where immigrants concentrate in New England today? Perhaps the most important factor may be the availability of cheap housing, specifically the presence of large numbers of that quintessential New England housing type, the triple-decker.
Triple-deckers are especially popular among immigrants because they offer the potential of home ownership for limited cost. Immigrants can buy a triple-decker, live in one unit and rent out the other two. Often the rent from the other two will pay all of the cost of their monthly mortgage.
This map shows the percentage of housing units by city or town that are located in buildings with 3 or 4 units. Not all of these are true triple deckers, but many are.
In 2005-09, 10 of 20 cities and towns in New England with the highest percentage of housing in three- or four-unit buildings were also in the top 20 in foreign-born percentage.
Compare this map to www.flickr.com/photos/gumprecht/5414470584/in/set-7215762.... They're not identical, but they have a lot in common.

By Loch Na Keal, Knock, Mull. We spotted this bird settling in this tree whilst walking our dog one morning. We tried hard to get closer - crossing a river on stepping stones and trying to get as far across a deeply rutted field as possible. Even so this is a huge crop and that explains the grainy background. We had several sightings of this magnificent bird on Mull, but this is the closest we got to one. It felt so special that we were the only people watching it.
