Jack Anfilofieff explains that becoming a fundamental Christian has created a large schism in his family. "Let's put it this way, it has driven a sword between us," he says. Anfilofieff grew up in the Russian orthodox church, but eventually left, "with a smile on my face." As a born again Christian, Anfilofieff spends time with an outreach group made up predominately of former Old Believers. He says he’s also trying to reach people in the church. Outside the church, Anfilofieff says he feels a lot of persecution. "My realtives tell me I'm on the road to destruction," He says. He explains that every time they talk about religion, "the sword gets a little sharper."

The Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie is about 8 miles south of Joliet IL. It's the largest open uncultivated space in the entire state of Illinois - located on a former armaments arsenal. Midewin is still very much a work in progress, as both conservation experts and enthusiastic volunteers are working diligently but with respect for nature to return this place to a state as close as possible to the way that it was before the arrival of Europeans in the 1700s. And - excitingly - that does mean that bison will be returning here before too long!

The site is administered by the Federal Department of Agriculture, not the Parks Service - which explains why it lacks some of the amenities that you might expect if it were run by the NPS. However, there is a good welcome center where you can pick up maps and other information, and the staff there are very helpful for directing to trails or spaces in the site that might appeal to the interests of a particular visitor.

At least once a week I spend my lunch break in a shop called custom kitchen. They are like Subway and sell sandwiches and cookies and other yummy things.

There's a funny guy working there, with whom I often joke around. A few month ago I requested to get my napkin folded as swan. We joked about this nearly every time I was there... Well, and today I finally got a swan-napkin!

Isnt it cute?

What happened? I've been off my main account for awhile now, and obviously missed some drama.

Thanks,

Indris (called Babakoto in Malagay) are the largest living lemurs at all reaching up to 1 meter. Andasibe is the best place to observe the Indris given that there are a couple of families habituated to humans. It lives in small groups and cannot survive in captivity. There are several legends trying to explain its origins since it is considered a sacred animal in the whole Madagascar. Nowadays it is endangered due to deforestation and agricultural activities next to the reserves.

The indri practices long-term monogamy, seeking a new partner only after the death of a mate. It lives in small groups consisting of the mated male and female and their maturing offspring. In the more fragmented forests of their range, the indri may live in larger groups with several generations. Habitat fragmentation limits the mobility and capacity of these large groups to break into smaller units.

The Indri Lemur is also called the Babakoto in many regions. This is one of the largest Lemurs found in the world. They seem to have many behaviors that are humanistic. They have characteristics that are different from many other species of Lemurs. As this time their survival is severely threatened.

This particular Lemur is almost 2 ½ feet in length and can also weigh up to 21 pounds but are typically found around 13 -15. They are able to leap vertically and to cling in place due to strong hind legs and sharp claws. They have one of the shortest tails of all Lemur species.

They have very round ears, a button nose, and small eyes. It is no wonder that they are often compared to a teddy bear! They have a considerable range of differences when it comes to their color. The region where they live affects their coloring so that they can blend in. They may be completely black, brownish, and have areas of red or white on them.
