I know I know, we're all busy........it's hard to explain but I don't stop thinking about using my camera.....It just happens to be a while since I have.
Anyway, this was a rare night out down at the good old favourite Apostles. It was a classic night really. I got there early as usual and watched. I watched the sunset with the throng...it was pretty nice, I watched the throng watch the sunset...I kinda like that too...bit of a people watcher...I watched the penguins arrive, check out the beach and return to the safety of the water to wait a little longer to charge the beach later on with the safety of numbers, I watched the throng watch the sunset again and miss the penguins completely. I watched the sea mist roll in. I watched the sun disappear, and for a while thereafter the throng too...if not a little tooo slowly. Then I watched the Moon rise right on cue.
Finally alone.....or so I thought.
First came the Crickets. I actually felt them before I saw them. I felt them smack me in the head, arms legs....everywhere. It was a classic warm late summer night so a hatch is not unusual but I can't remember seeing this many crickets there before.
I took four shots this night, this was the third, but it was while waiting for the first one to do its business, I think it was about a 15-20 minute exposure I realised it wasn't just me n the crickets. At first I thought it was a Bandicoot as I've seen one before in just the same spot too but no it was a Fox. It was so close to me that I actually got a bit of a fright.....it didn't. It strolled passed me within arms length with not much more than a glance, along the board walk and up the small stair case to where the night lights were illuminating the path back to the carpark. Of course the light was attracting the crickets in huge numbers and the Fox proceeded to feast.
I followed it up and took a seat on a small stone wall and watched again. It was pretty fucken awesome. Its coat was perfect, its tail bushy. At one stage it nearly stepped on my shoe as it skitted back and forth crunching down the crickets.
I couldn't help but think how menacingly cool it looked but at the same time how effective, adaptable and destructive it was and how it didn't really belong there in that beautiful place.
Bit like me I guess.
Bronica S2a, Kodak Porta 800 (first time I've used this film at night), exposure about 20 minutes under a pretty full moon, f8 I think.

Hi Flickr friends. I’ve been avoiding Flickr lately and I thought I should explain why. I just can’t find time to participate the way I have in the past. Commenting and answering comments, added to other pressures I have had lately, became a little overwhelming. I would love to be as generous with my time as many of you are with yours, but I just can’t manage it.
I’m going to resume posting pics but I won’t be commenting. I will be favouriting pics when I get the chance.
Thanks for your views, faves and comments.

monologue from 'La nuit juste avant les forêts' by Bernard-Marie Koltès
forgive my translation:
we would have to be someplace else without anyone around, my friend
when I come to tell you what I have to tell you, feel good like lying on the grass, something like that
that one no longer has to move with the shadow of the trees.
Then I would say: 'here I'm fine, here is my house, I lie down and greet you'.
But here, my friend, it's impossible, never seen a place where they leave you alone and say hello.
We have to send you away, they tell you, go there, you go there
Go over there, take your ass off there
and you're packing your bag, the job is somewhere else,
always somewhere else you have to go looking for it,
there is no time to lie down and to let go, there is not
time to explain and say 'i'll say goodbye'.
Kicked in the ass they would send you away, the work is there, farther and farther, up to Nicaragua.
If you want to work, you have to move, never that you can say 'this is my house and I'll say goodbye'
so much so that when I leave a place I always have the impression that this will be my home,
more than the one I'm going to live.
When they kick your ass again, you go away again
Where you go, you're always more foreign, less and less at home.
And when they kick your ass, you go away again
when you turn to look back, friend, it's always the desert.
Let's stop once and let's say 'fuck you'
I do not move anymore, you must listen to me
if we lie down on the grass for once and take all the time
that you tell your story, those coming from Nicaragua
that we tell ourselves that we are all, more or less foreign
but that's enough now, we're going to hear, calmly, all we have to say
So yes, you understand that they do not give a shit about us.
I stopped, I listened, I said to myself: 'I do not work anymore'
as long as you do not give a fuck about me.
What's the use of Nicaragua's coming up here and I'm going over there
if on all sides the same story.
When I worked again, I spoke to everyone kicked in the ass that landed here
to find work and they have been listening to me.
I have been listening to those from Nicaragua who have explained to me how it is from them
Over there there is an old general, who stays all day and all night at the edge of a forest
they bring him food because he does not have to move
who shoots on everything that moves
they bring him the ammunition when he does not have any more.
They talked to me about a general with his soldiers surrounding the forest
everything that moves becomes a target
everything that appears at the edge of the forest
all they notice that it does not have the same color as the trees
and that does not move the same way
I've been listening to this and I've been told that it's the same thing on all sides
the more I get kicked in the ass and the more I'll be a stranger
they end up here and I'll end up there
over there where everything that moves is hidden in the mountains
I have listened to all this and I said to myself: "I do not move any more, if there is no work I do not work
if work has to make me crazy and I have to kick my ass, I do not work anymore
I want to lie down, once and for all, I want to explain myself, I want the grass
the shadow of the trees, I want to scream, I want to be able to scream, even if they then shoot at me, they do that anyway,
if you do not agree, if you open your mouth,
you must hide at the bottom of the forest. But then it's better this way
at least I will have told you what I must tell you.
Normally, Jongmyo Shrine is only open for guided tours on most days. However, I was able to get in without a guided tour because it was on a Saturday which was the only day not needing a guided tour. Still, I got a glimpse on how much importance South Koreans put on cultural education to their kids.
Right over here in this photo was a guide in hanbok explaining to the kids what was Jongmyo Shrine used in the past. A really interesting thing to note is that despite fast changes and foreign influence over the decades, Korea has still managed to keep many of its traditions.
I really don't like explore. Sorry not sorry. It's the same thing as with the Daily Deviation back on deviantArt - with the difference, I only once ever achieved one of those. But the concept remains the same. First of all, it goes on my nerves how it causes a notification like every five minutes. Also, since it's per definition a picture that's a few days old already, it seems to drag attention away from more recent uploads. That part I really can't explain, but it happens all the time. Something gets explored and keeps popping my inbox, while the two or three newer uploads published since get barely anything, as if there was a connection somehow. Which is especially frustrating when they carry some writing I really wanted to get out there.
Also, Explore is little more than a hot thumbnail contest. If enough people click on it, it ends up getting explored. Only, if all the people then decide, it's not such a great picture at all, that doesn't get accounted for at all.
In short, I wish one could disable participation in that with a checkbox somewhere.
Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord --Importance of memory--
Landschaftspark is a public park located in Duisburg-Meiderich, Germany. It was designed in 1991 by Latz + Partner (Peter Latz), with the intention that it work to heal and understand the industrial past, rather than trying to reject it. The park closely associates itself with the past use of the site: a coal and steel production plant (abandoned in 1985, leaving the area significantly polluted) and the agricultural land it had been prior to the mid 19th century
Conception and creation
In 1991, a co-operative-concurrent planning procedure with five international planning teams was held to design the park. Peter Latz’s design was significant, as it attempted to preserve as much of the existing site as possible. Unlike his competitors, Latz recognized the value of the site’s current condition. He allowed the polluted soils to remain in place and be remediated through phytoremediation, and sequestered soils with high toxicity in the existing bunkers. He also found new uses for many of the old structures, and turned the former sewage canal into a method of cleansing the site.
Design
The park is divided into different areas, whose borders were carefully developed by looking at existing conditions (such as how the site had been divided by existing roads and railways, what types of plants had begun to grow in each area, etc.). This piecemeal pattern was then woven together by a series of walkways and waterways, which were placed according to the old railway and sewer systems. While each piece retains its character, it also creates a dialogue with the site surrounding it. Within the main complex, Latz emphasized specific programmatic elements: the concrete bunkers create a space for a series of intimate gardens, old gas tanks have become pools for scuba divers, concrete walls are used by rock climbers, and one of the most central places of the factory, the middle of the former steel mill, has been made into piazza. Each of these spaces uses elements to allow for a specific reading of time.
The site was designed with the idea that a grandfather, who might have worked at the plant, could walk with his grandchildren, explaining what he used to do and what the machinery had been used for. At Landschaftspark, memory was central to the design. Various authors have addressed the ways in which memory can inform the visitor of a site, a concept that became prevalent during Postmodernism.

Both are single exposures. My simplified star trails technique is explained on page 62 of my eBook. No need to stack hundreds of exposures, like other complicated star trail methods. All processing is done in-camera, using the LENR mode (Long Exposure Noise Reduction), rather than having to do post processing stacking afterwards on your computer — joining together hundreds of single exposures into circling trails!

"How can you explain that you need to know that the trees are still there, and the hills and the sky? Anyone knows they are. How can you say it is time your pulse responded to another rhythm, the rhythm of the day and the season instead of the hour and the minute? No, you cannot explain. So you walk." ~Unknown

What was going to be a few days backpacking in the north cascades this week turned into a few days in the hospital with my poor niece. On Saturday we had to take her away during her own 10th birthday party to the emergency department where she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. She was in a critical state and was admitted to the pediatric ICU. I stayed with her and my sister (luckily I was off for the week) and helped take care of my young nephews. She was released from the hospital recently, but obviously her new life is a big adjustment. Sitting in the hospital for almost 4 days, watching my little niece try to understand what is happening to her was difficult. It reminded me, once again, to cherish those we love and our fragile health.
Instead of backpacking, Nick and I made the most of our last day off and went on this stunning day hike. It was exactly the taste of beauty and freedom I needed.
There is no blue pigment in the feathers of a Kingfisher!
Yup., that's a fact!!
Kingfishers feathers are adapted for all that diving they do
And as blue light is more easily reflected by particles in those adapted feathers ., it fools us to perceiving (thinking) that the bird is a variation of blue., which it isn't
(This also explains why we get so many variations in the colour when we photograph them., there is no fixed blue colour., because it isn't blue in the first place)
So what is the true colour of a Kingfisher?
Well., remove him/her from sunlight and that lovely turquoise blue we are all so familiar with turns into... a murky brown (groan!)
So the next time your photographing that marvel of a Kingfisher perched on a stick., remember it’s all a trick of the light., it's not blue at all., It’s actually muddy brown!
Have I sent you insane yet?!!
Now about the red parts...…...

Arganzuela Street in Madrid, at approximately number 30 on that street, has this curious rectangular hole in a brick wall where there is a relief with the number two and the word "amor" (love) painted on it.
I have not been able to get anyone in the vicinity of the place to explain to me what the meaning or history of this relief is.
Searching on Google Maps I have seen that this rectangular hole did not contain the number two some months ago, but I have not been able to find anything else.
It is a real enigma of popular art in the city.

I really didn't think I'd have time for Shiptember this year as I didn't have anything on sep 29th. Thankfully working in LDD (Lego Digital Deesigner) can be very time efficient (this is 8h modeling work over the past 2 evenings) Other advantages include endless bricks, unrestricted palette and emissive materials. Ideal when time is short, but it doesn't compare to actually building a Ship and putting it on a shelf. Many thanks to my amazing woman who encouraged me to push forward and do this in such a short time. More shots soon.

It's a tough thing to explain to people who haven't experienced Arctic light just how magical it is. On cloudless days, when you hit 'Light Season', the evenings go on forever before giving way to another day of brilliance. This was photographed at about midnight, not long after the sun disappeared. It would get just a bit darker than this, heading towards 2-3AM, before the sun started its climb above the horizon yet again.

Today, if you feel like I do, that we are surrounded, except when when we are together, by individuals that have no use or interest in Jesus Christ. Recently, I was asked by a very close relative, why I believed in such stuff? We were interrupted before I had a chance to respond. But the question, has caused me to deeply reflect on possible answers. Today, in our Gospel reading, we had the opportunity to hear about the transfiguration of Jesus Christ. Our gospel acclamation states the purpose of the transfiguration quite clearly: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased, listen to him.” So, we listen to Him. Listening, implies a deep and mature relationship with Jesus…and a love between us that motivates us to be like HIM. My answer to my loved one, would obviously include Jesus Christ, my guide, my companion, and friend. Who are they listening too?
This seems like a very difficult task for many of our peers. Recently, I was listening to a popular podcast, where an educated young woman had become disillusioned with her faith. She proudly stated that she was deconstructing her faith. Eventually, she chose a career as a spiritual director, where she gladly supports others in the process of deconstructing. She strongly avoids the name of Jesus Christ in her own spiritual journey and practice in helping others. She stated quite simply that too many people have been harmed by others under the banner of HIS name. It made me wonder who she is listening too now?
This reminds me of a similar situation in scripture: found in John chapter 6. Where Jesus is preaching about the Bread from Heaven-the Eucharist. He is equating that the bread is his body. “So Jesus said to them Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.” (53) ) “After this saying many of his disciples drew back and no longer walked with him.” Who were they going to listening too now? I thought!
Jesus then responds with a heart wrenching question to his twelve disciples: will you also go away? Peters' response is beautiful stated “Lord to whom shall we go, you have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.” Because we are sitting and kneeling in our beloved church...we have a similar response…like Peter, James and John at the transfiguration event…we have the attitude that…it is very good to be here. This is where we listen to Him.
What are the benefits of listening to Jesus? Anastasius of Sinai, in his homily on the feast of the transfiguration in the 7th century states what we receive, beautifully:
“Therefore, since each of us possesses God in his heart and is being transformed into his divine image, we also should cry out with joy: It is good for us to be here—here where all things shine with divine radiance, where there is joy and gladness and exultation; where there is nothing in our hearts but peace, serenity and stillness, where God is seen. For here, in our hearts, Christ takes up his abode together with the Father, saying as he enters: Today salvation has come to this house. With Christ, our hearts receive all the wealth of his eternal blessings, and there where they are stored up for us in him, we see reflected as in a mirror both the first fruits and the whole of the world to come.” (End quote)
Peter, James and John had the awe-inspiring encounter with the transfigured Jesus, and it strengthened their faith for the purpose of sharing “the light” with the world. They had to come down from the mountain and face the complexity of a messy world. They did!
To change is painful. To be a Christian, a follower of Christ means that we have a deep bond with HIM. All relationships that are worthwhile, require us to adjust our lives accordingly. The purpose of our church…is to help form us into being a light for the world. Our transformation takes a lifetime, and this transformation requires us to listen to our conscience… for this is how we are guided in every moment and decision we make. When we receive the light of the world in the Eucharist, we are challenged to take this light, as it is reflected in our acts of kindness, into a dark and divided world.
Now let us prepare to meet Him in the Eucharist! Are we listening for HIS quiet voice within our hearts?
Boundary Bay before the big storm.
Meteorologists are calling the weather event a "bomb cyclone."
“In order for it to be a meteorological bomb, it has to have a pressure drop of 24 millibars in 24 hours. This has dropped 50 millibars in 24 hours so it's like a double kind of a mega storm,” said Dave Phillips, a senior climatologist for Environment Canada.
The storm system is expected to bring extremely high winds.
“These are historic winds. I mean they're almost the kind of wind you'd see in a hurricane,” Phillips explained.
Life has roads.. paths.. and detours.. daily. Every single one of these are new changes, opportunities and outcomes. Every decision that you make is a new possibility.. and nobody ever really KNOWS what the outcome of that path will be.
...What could look like a long clear straight away path.. could instantly become blocked by a fallen tree or a big pothole.. or any other unforeseen obstacle.. that wasn't there before, but ... but THAT'S LIFE, ISN'T IT??!
If you really get into it.. and really think about it, it's kind of scary for some.. exciting for others. But then some of us believe that all of those paths/roads that we take were already chosen for us ((destiny)) & although we may THINK that we're making a decision.. it was already written for us to do so..
What do I believe??
Hmm.. I'm not sure. Probably a little bit of both?? LOL believe me, I have given this subject A LOT of thought! And, my answer.. is STILL UNSURE!
However, whatever you believe.. remember that each decision you make..every path or road that you decide to take.. can ultimately change your future.. (even the smaller paths & detours). Any little pothole in the road that you didn't see coming could cause your tire to blow out.. and you might have to sit on the side of the road "waiting for AAA" or taking less time to: "change your own tire"..
But always remember.. these decisions are important.. no matter how small.
When I am making big decisions, personally I choose to pray about them.. I ask God to help me make the right decision..
But all of us are different.. Some of us are more impulsive than others, or more impatient.
But no matter what, no matter which road we take..
All of us have the SAME THING IN COMMON: We all have choices.
..& We all hope that we make the right one.

Just some thoughts...
I hope that you all have a beautiful Tuesday! I hope that all of your days go nicely and you are healthy, happy & as stress free as possible!
I just got home from physical therapy and I have an important zoom appointment in a little while. My physical therapist did such a fantastic job on me today.. she did this new massage technique on my neck and upper back that I have never seen before.. and it was amazing. She pulled out these long metal things that looked almost like knives (kind of intimidating when you see them!) But she explained how they're smooth and won't hurt me, but they help her to reach deep into my very tight muscles to loosen them without tiring herself out quickly or hurting her self. She did let me know that I will probably bruise on my neck (which I did), but it's just 'the bad stuff coming out' or getting better.. because she actually was able to reach the worst part of the issue.
I am so grateful & thanked her probably 10 times !! I feel so great.. and I go back again Thursday morning to have this done again. It works so GOOD & my neck and upper back currently feel amazing!
..ALSO, I told her how on my way in how I had a migraine (I haven't had one in about 1 1/2 years), but when I do get them I cannot see. I took ibprofen and closed my eyes and rubbed my temples before I went inside and I was starting to feel better. (PT helped that 1000% it went away immediately, thank GOD!) but I also explained to her that the night before while I was at work that I lifted a few big trays of meat on a couple occasions.. (probably between 20-60 lbs each).. Even though my co-workers don't let me .. and try to do it all for me.. on a few occasions I had to. She was happy to hear that.. because she wants me to TRY to lift and see how it works for me.. She explained that she would much rather me practice lifting things at work, NOW (while I'm seeing her in physical therapy at least twice a week).. that way we can SEE how it affects me and how I feel.. and if anything, PT will help me if it hurts me at all.. and then she'd tell me NOT to. I was happy to hear that.. because I don't want to be considered useless because of this injury. I don't want to be a burden at my job.. or an inconvenience. So, I'm glad she suggested it.
Anyhoo, I feel great! And I'm SO GRATEFUL!
😄

I "Don't" adore you because.... of your obsessive need to reenact every World War on my arms and legs, without warning or provocation. Thus always causing scarred tissue and much loss of blood!
NOR because of.... The continual turf wars between you and the local Cat-Gang members, who walk by the house. Which activates your internal security alarms. Causing you to wake up the family (and neighbors) with your Death Calls Warnings at 3am in the morning.
Not even because of.... Your obsessive compulsive dissorder and pure hatred of all things on shelves, tables and walls! Thus explaining the mysteries on how things inexplicably leap to their doom and imminent destruction!
And FINALLY I don't adore you because of.... Your senseless warmongering and hateful rage against so many innocent victims!
Let's now take a moment to remember all those we've lost this last year... RIP my Cargo pants (riped by Toby), My favorite cardigan and 2 sweaters (also mauld by Toby), My FLICKR hardcover photobook (gift to mom...bitten to death), A livingroom cushion, 3 long sleeves shirts (victims of world war reenactments), 2 hand painted paintings of mine (damaged from fatal leaps off walls caused my Toby), A bag of spaghetti and 1 frozen streak!
I "DO" adore you because... Every morning I wake up and find a different toy, teddy or new found treasure found from the night before. Nicely placed at the foot of my bedroom door as a gift from you.
I ADORE you because... When I ask you if you were a Good-Boy. You look-up at me and softly assure me with a gentil meow. And proceed to affectionally head-bump my legs to reassure me.
And because.... Everytime I leave you, you run to the window and watch and wait for me to come home. And when I do... Your the first to greet me at the door, with a cuddle and a frantic scratching on my feet, as to say... "You will always be mine"!
And finally... I LOVE you because at night without a whisper of a wind. Or an once of a sound... You slither under the blankets and snuggle up to my body for warmth. And lovingly purr yourself to sleep in complete contentment!
Your my little buddy Toby and I love and adore you!! (even when your a pain in my back-side!! Silly cat :-)
Thank-you to anyone who managed to read all this, I realise it's a little long. I wrote this simply because tomorrow's his birthday and I was feeling sentimental. I'll post his official b-day picture tomorrow...till then)
