The terraces were dug following the natural curves of the landscape. The thickness of the walls stores heat during the day and diffuses it at night. Thanks to this method it has been possible to obtain a different microclimate as one goes down and gets closer to the centre. An average temperature difference of 5°C was observed, whereas the difference is only 0.5°C over comparable height differences at the same location. Due to its sheltered position, each of the terraces represents approximately one thousand metres of altitude under normal growing conditions.
Had great fun yesterday on a lonely beach in great conditions. A strong wind kept the clouds changing, and the low early light soon became a gorgeous sunny day. I left with a camera full of fun. No need to explain , by Augustines, is fine, even though I've tried. This is an obvious simple reflection, with a convenient small patch of shadow, blocking out my shadow. If you wait long enough these things happen.
Useless to explain my silences. At the bottom of me there is always a primitive wait for a magical change. (One night the mirrors will be broken, the ones that I went will burn and when I wake up I will be the heir of my corpse). I am so tired of my old fears and terrors that I dare neither to communicate them nor to say them.

In Toraja country, people do not bury their dead. A large hole is usually dug in a cliff or boulder to place the coffin. If the deceased is of noble blood, a wooden figure of him or her, called Tau Tau, is placed on the cliff.
These rites are explained by the traditional religion of the Torajas, called Aluk To Dolo, from which their ancestral animistic beliefs originate. To Dolo means "people who have gone away". This religion consists of a belief in ancestors, a complex mixture of cults, myths and ancestral rituals.

I tried to explain to Gerrie that I did not want it untied and that it was to be used for props. He seemed to think it was a reading gift. He likes to read a little. I think he pretends to read.
Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday
I love how the maple trees in Canada all have such wonderful colours at this time of year.
This one was particularly beautiful because of that cutie little Junco in the branch.... I had to google what it was, although I'm pretty sure my cousin explained it at the time lol
All my autumn photos are taken either last year or previous years... I haven't even managed to charge my camera battery in weeks. That seriously needs to change!! :)
Hope you're all have a lovely week :)
Thank you for stopping by and for the comments and faves on my previous cutie puppy dog eyes :) :) :)

The custom of hanging up tin cans when a baby girl is born is hard to explain as it involves a play on words and Bavarian dialect. But I'll give it a try:
“Büchse” is the German word for tin can. The custom of putting up a sign after the birth of a girl designating the father as Büchsenmacher (can maker / gunsmith) and hanging it with old cans has survived into the 21st century and still exists in Lower Bavaria and Upper Austria. Its origins can be found in the Bavarian dialect, which describes a girl as Bix (Büchse), or Bixel. Bix/Can is used here as the unflattering word for the female reproductive organs. The father is being made fun of for not producing anything better than a girl.
I guess it's time for that custom to die out.
DEAR SANTA, BEFORE I EXPLAIN, HOW MUCH DO YOU KNOW ALREADY?

I should perhaps explain "Peedie" Peedie is a traditional Orkney word meaning small and in this particular setting it obviously means "Small Sea" so it would be fair to ask how this come to be?
The reason is the sea in Kirkwall originally went all the way up to the steps of St.Magnus Cathedral and over the centuries the sea was reclaimed by the people of Kirkwall leaving only a very small Sea which would have been created by the Geological feature of an 'AYRE' which is a bar of shingle or stones forming on a narrow spit of land from the shore.
Recent Archaeological excavations very nearby to the Cathedral unearthed old piers possibly used in the building of the Cathedral.
Kirkwall's name comes from the Norse 'Kirkjuvagr', meaning 'Church on the bay'
In the Caribbean where black-throated blue warblers winter and in the North American forests where they breed, El Nino brings drought. Insects and other arthropods become scarce, making it more difficult for birds to find food. In El Nino years they suffered high mortality rates on their wintering grounds in Jamaica and relatively few young fledged at Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest in New Hampshire, a location where the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center (SMBC) scientists seek to understand how climate change affects migratory songbirds, such as the black-throated blue warbler and ovenbird.
Isotropic signatures suggest that black-throated blue warblers from the northern part of their breeding range tend to winter on the westerly Caribbean islands, Cuba and Jamaica. Those from the southern United Stares winter on the easterly islands of Hispaniola and Puerto Rico. These findings could explain why black-throated blue warblers in the southern United Stares are declining more quickly than those in the northern portion of the range. It may not be a coincidence that the most extensive deforestation in the Greater Antilles has occurred on Hispaniola.

The palace was built using the stones of the former Coronation Cathedral of the Virgin Mary Provost Church. The building lasted more than twenty years which explains why Louis Seize style ornaments appeared on the mainly baroque building.
The architect of the palace was Jakab Riedel and it had become one of the most significant Louis Seize style building in Hungary. On the facade the bishop's coat-of arms can be seen. Its furniture is Empire and Biedermeier style. The library contains 40000 volumes- codices, incunables. The palace garden reaches the castlewall hiding the unexplored parts of the Coronation Basilica.
I cannot. A double-exposure, the first thing one would jump to, is out. How could the second exposure on the same frame just selectively put in the three rectangular images without all the surrounding details? Very weird. I cannot possibly explain it but maybe one of you can. This was not taken through a window. I was standing out on our balcony in the open air.

One of B)eSketch promo card design that shows and explain how my current drawings are created. You can also check the note in my album set for more explanation... why I use eMedium for all my latest eSketches at... www.flickr.com/photos/bayaniartist/sets/72157623081272271/
To all creative friends who are emailing me and asking what medium I use and how I create my current B) "e" Sketches.
Some of my sketches during earlier years (1970s-2008) were all done in pencil, www.flickr.com/photos/bayaniartist/4607584246/in/set-7215... .pen/ink, charcoal, pastels, acrylic and oil paints with traditional art tools. Then on June 2009, my art creativity got wired. I got addicted to a tablet...
Applying the basics and the old school traditional (line) drawing style and technique but with a different art tools, using a Bamboo tablet with the versatile all in one stylus pen and a big iMac with PS with unlimited art tools and colors.
I call it green art.. without the expense of buying art supplies (paints, brushes, pen, pencil , paper or canvas, etc) No mess to clean up. And it can be done/printed in any size, anywhere (with a laptop) or anytime whenever you're in the mood to sketch, doodle or paint.
It's really an enjoyable daily artworkout for me.
Really appreciate all your inspiring comments, your time and visits.
Sincerely,
Bayani Espiritu de Leon

I should probably explain why I haven’t been around for a while.
A few months ago I put down my camera and put on my running shoes to begin training for a 48 hour fixed time race to bring in the new year. It didn’t end well.
Going forward, I want to put down my Nikes and pick up my Nikon. As soon as my broken finger heals, I want to go out and take some pictures.
In the meantime, here is a repost from a few years ago, when the Trump administration proposed the removal of this place from the protection of the Grand Staircase/Escalante National Monument. Nowadays, things are looking better for the future of my hoodoo friends.
The photo has been lightly edited, and the text, below, somewhat more.

Memento Mori (The Queen)
Daughter of ancient sea and flowing lava
conceived and buried
after a million centuries rising
her crown choosing her
as the land falls away
She has lived through it all
seen fantastic things come
and go in a stream
of deep time ending
with the arrival of man her assassin
She has not much longer to exist …
what wind earth and water would do
slowly
man will accomplish in an instant
And so I come to her court
cloud moon and stars
this beautiful woman who has
endured,
like me soon to be no more
to sleep at her feet
and dream
Square Trees Series
Val d'Orcia, Tuscany, Italy
The cypress tree is a popular cliche of the Tuscan countryside in central Italy. The trees are symbolic of death and grief, and are said to mark spots where people have perished. The tradition has ancient and mythological roots, as explained by Ovid in his Metamorphoses, where the youth Cyparissus is so overcome with grief at having killed his beloved tame stag that he is transformed into a cypress tree and weeps sap eternally over the spot. This tree lines a field near Pienza.
Normally, Jongmyo Shrine is only open for guided tours on most days. However, I was able to get in without a guided tour because it was on a Saturday which was the only day not needing a guided tour. Still, I got a glimpse on how much importance South Koreans put on cultural education to their kids.
Right over here in this photo was a guide in hanbok explaining to the kids what was Jongmyo Shrine used in the past. A really interesting thing to note is that despite fast changes and foreign influence over the decades, Korea has still managed to keep many of its traditions.
Great arms on the saguaro in this photo.
The left one: "Talk to the hand" :-)
Also cholla and organ pipe to be found here. The Organ Pipe National Monument close to the Mexican border is rich in cactus diversity and I liked it better than the Saguaro NP.
