Monument to Lord and Lady Newhaven. (died 1728 and 1732) by William Woodman. The seated figure of Lady Newhaven was added only after her death. Pevsner says " without her the monument would have much more balance. She is seated below, at his feet, on the high white base, a figure rather too big for her position". We learned during our visit that the figure was originally on the floor of the chancel and was later moved into its present position, presumably to give more floor space. It certainly explains the slight awkwardness.

The Inauguration of the Bhuthabhrteshwarnath Mandir was a landmark event that took place over the course of five days and included the ancient Vedic rituals required for the inauguration of a temple. Attended by various distinguished guests, acharyas, and the Bhakti Marga family, Paramahamsa Vishwananda explained that 'Bhutabhrteshwarnath' means 'the Lord who nourishes', and that this new temple is availble for all to enjoy and experience.

ok. what is important here is not the photo. I know, i know- flickr IS photos... but alas, i must explain to you the miracle that is the BLINKING BASS TRAILER FISH.

This truck has a fish on the ball trailer hitch. It's made so that it looks like the fish has bitten the hitch. Which, on it's own, is mildly amusing in a redneck-sort-of-way. But that's not all folks. Not by a mile.

When the truck brakes, the fish's tail flaps from left to right, and little red lights beam from where it's eyes would be. OMG. When the truck signals a turn, the fish flaps again and the eye corresponding to the direction of the turn blinks in time with the car's own blinker.

I promise, I am looking for a link or something... AH HA!

This former Aggie was explaining to his grandson about the A&M tradition of placing pennies on Sul Ross' boot for good luck when I asked to take a portrait. I wanted to portray their relationship as family as well as their enthusiasm for Texas A&M, so I placed them close together with grandfather's arm around his grandson. I placed the statue of Sul Ross in the background and took the portrait from a low vantage point to include the statue in the picture without getting too far from the subjects' faces (it also figuratively shows how both subjects look up to Sul as an icon of Texas A&M). I asked the grandson, who was much shorter than his grandfather, to stand on the ledge next to the statue so that his face was closer to his grandfather's face, both to show their closeness and to include the statue without getting too far back. The colors as well as the logos on both subjects clothing reinforce that they are Aggies. If I were to retake this photograph, I would lower the ISO and decrease the shutter speed instead.
