The drought hit "Wewala lake (වෑවල වැව)" as seen from the point where its feeder "Kiri Oya (කිරි ඔය)" is supposed to be entering the lake. it's been several months long sever drought and the feeder is dried up fully. In fact almost all of the springs in the Nuwaragala Kanda (නුවරගල කන්ද) where Kiri Oya starts are dried up. Though a few dark clouds are hovering over and every living being is expecting rains, rain does not look anywhere closer yet.
Sometimes society puts too much pressure on children to conform to prescribed social roles...especially girls !! I thought this image seemed to represent that aptly. This was a 'what do you want to become when u grow up' booth at a children's fair !!
I pulled even MORE cucumbers from my garden this morning, and was quickly running out of things to do with them! Luckily, I found a recipe at Awake at the Whisk: awakeatthewhisk.blogspot.com/2008/07/cucumber-cake.html where Amber had the same problem I did - too many cukes! Two of the giant veggies disappeared into sweet oblivion, and I was rewarded with crunchy, lemon-ginger snacks.

In this shot I only used one light source and left a shadow on one side of the model’s face. In portraiture, single source lighting will usually add shadow and create a more dramatic effect. I usually have my subjects even more off centered, but I wanted a close shot, so I didn’t want to move her out of the frame much more. I got her to lick her lips just before shooting to add just a bit of glint to them.
Responding to David Bailey's photographs of Mick Jagger and Michael Caine. I was also influenced my Mathew Brady and his use of the 'Brady Stand' which was a solid iron stand use for models when photographs portraits to reduce movement as there was a long shutter speed. Shot on a Mamiya medium format camera on 120mm ISo 400 black and white film. Printed on 10"x8" Ilford glossy paper. I used a vertical rectangle soft box facing towards the model's right side directly to her right to create sharp shadows and definition in the face and clothing.
