Went to look round a house today. There's a new development being built in a lovely village just outside Bristol - the kind of lovely village that has great schools, beautiful views, a fantastic community feel... and no houses on the market because noone wants to leave.
We've been talking in a very abstract sense about moving for some time, but I'd always said not yet. Until I saw this development. I am clearly a marketing executive's dream - in my head I've already moved in, despite the fact that not a brick has been laid yet. Oh dear.
Since no houses are built on this site yet, we had to travel to Bridgwater to see a show home of the same type on a different development. The show home was a work of art - they clearly have their target demographic very well characterised - with this wedding dress on a mannequin in the sewing room/4th bedroom. Oh so aspirational donchathink?
So all in all I think this is a pretty appropriate picture for Great Expectations in the scavenger hunt, though admittedly it's a little less cobwebby than Miss Haversham's dress.

About 50 people gathered outside the State Capitol on Thursday afternoon to protest against recently announced trigger cuts.
Gov. Jerry Brown's administration announced the $1 billion in midyear budget reductions on Tuesday, after determining that state budget revenues are about $2.2 billion short of expectations.
The demonstrators focused on the cuts to health and social service programs, which they said would include a $100 million loss for in-home supportive services, another $100 loss for developmental disability services, $23 million for subsidized child care and $8.6 million for the subsidized health care program known as Medi-Cal.
The demonstrators sang Christmas Carols, such as "Santa Claus is Coming' to Town," with modified lyrics: "You better not cut; You better not bow; You can raise revenues; We're telling you how; Revenues are needed this year!”
"It's obvious what the people of California want: two-thirds of them don't want these cuts, and the vast majority wants to tax the wealthiest and the corporations," said LaTanya Wolf of the Alameda County Food Bank in a news release.
Among the protester, Lauren Freed said she was a mother of three children and that she works part-time while studying to earn a Master's degree in counseling. She said she currently receives state subsidized child care.
"I probably will be one of the parents who will be cut," said Freed, who added that without subsidized child care she might have to drop out of college.
"It's a really hard thing to give up your dreams that something you've working hard for so long," said Freed.
Some of the protesters said it was too late to stop the trigger cuts from taking place and that they would now focus on preventing future cuts in next year's budget.
"I believe, for the midyear cuts, it is a fait accomplish," said Michael Roth, a volunteer for the Alameda County food bank.
Others, including advocates of in-home supportive services, have filed a lawsuit to block the triggers cuts from taking place. A federal judge in Oakland has granted a temporary restraining order and scheduled a hearing on the issue for Jan. 19.
"I think what we're realizing is that there are lot of different ways we can fight," said Jessica Lehman of Community Resources for Independent Living. "I mean we have the Americans with Disabilities Act, and we have the Supreme Court Olmstead decision that says people with disabilities have a right to live in our own homes."

Now don't get me wrong, it was cool, exciting, etc. I just REALLY wanted fireworks.
This journal entry received a 10 out of 10 possible points for a number of reasons. For one thing, this student answered all of the questions that were being asked for this journal prompt.They also added additional details to make the journal entry her own as well as making it interesting for her reader. As this is always the point of creative writing, this student exceeded my expectations.

The opening scene of Charles Dickens' Great Expectations, when Pip meets the convict Abel Magwitch, takes place in Cooling churchyard. A group of children's anthropomorphic gravestones beside the south porch provided Dickens with the inspiration for Pip's poor dead brothers in the novel. In fact, they are to members of the wealthy Comport family, some of whom lived at Cooling Castle, today home of the television personality Jools Holland.
As I never saw my father or my mother, and never saw any likeness of either of them (for their days were long before the days of photographs), my first fancies regarding what they were like, were unreasonably derived from their tombstones. The shape of the letters on my father's, gave me an odd idea that he was a square, stout, dark man, with curly black hair. From the character and turn of the inscription, "Also Georgiana Wife of the Above," I drew a childish conclusion that my mother was freckled and sickly. To five little stone lozenges, each about a foot and a half long, which were arranged in a neat row beside their grave, and were sacred to the memory of five little brothers of mine - who gave up trying to get a living, exceedingly early in that universal struggle - I am indebted for a belief I religiously entertained that they had all been born on their backs with their hands in their trousers-pockets, and had never taken them out in this state of existence."

This student Exceeded my expectation as they were very close to reaching exactly 100 BWU (Bulk Weight Units). They were above 950 which meant that they had exceeded rather than just meeting. This student also had each box filed in and filled in correctly.
Again, my drawing is always the ideal. Getting my execution to match the ideal in my mind is the challenge. The more I do this though, the closer it gets. Plus, my drawing isn't always how I want it to finish. My mind changes as I go.

When cleaning out the garage yesterday, I came across a folder with old things from last school year. Seems like I saved a ton of doodles that Stormie and I did last year in french class.
She's clearly a better artist then I am, as I can not handle anything more sophisticated then a mouse and keyboard. Most of these are just inside jokes, making no sense to anyone else apart from a few friends.
Since one of these sheets had doodles I wanted to photograph on both sides, I took two pictures: one with the sheet right side up in the bottom left, then I turned it around and placed it in the upper right and took another picture.
Then they were both combined in Photoshop, and curves were adjusted, along with a few other things here and there.
I appreciate all your comments, favs, notes and expos, long or short!

When I "discovered" feminism, back in the 1960s, it was a revelation, a liberation. Even then, like 12 stepping, change was so hard, coming out of the expectations of the 50s and 60s that you had to have a man. When my father left my mother in the 70s she declared that now her life was over. For a woman, the greatest disgrace was to not be able to "hold on to" her man.
My Great Aunt Anna [a highly educated woman] became schizophrenic in the 1930s and was consigned to a Mental Institution, where she died in the 1950s. I only found this out as an adult because no one talked about her or her life.
Even when I write now, I think, "Should I talk about that, should I say that, maybe I'll offend someone, maybe someone will get angry, maybe it'll be things that no one should know."
Towards the end of my mother's life, we finally talked about a lot of things. My mother told me she frequently talked to Anna. I would say, "But Anna died, she's dead." To which my mother would say, "Well of course she is." Gamely pushing on, I would say, "Well what does Anna say?" and Mother would say, "She needs money."
Ever the reasonable one, I'd retort, "I don't think she meant MONEY mom, maybe energy or attention." Mother gave me, "that look" - paused - leaned forward and said with emphasis, "NO. She needs money."
Silence kills a lot of people. I wish there were more times in my life when, given a half a chance, I spoke up and spoke my mind, spoke the truth, had my say.

The band 100° C was shot for the CD cover Brant Rock during the recording of the single Cream on the premises of castle Kynzvart. Pilot of the Story of Cream represents a modern fairy tale with expressionist elements. 100° C play a group of cursed musicians trapped at the castle. Frontman Joshua gets impressed by magic powers of the castle lady while her servants 'tame' the rest of the band . Upcoming 100° C concert tour look was inspired by this styling.

This is a photograph from the 35th Michael Manning Memorial "Dunshaughlin 10KM" Road Race and Fun Run which took place in Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath, Ireland on Saturday 21st June 2014 at 19:30. This race is widely acknowledged in the running community as one of the best races in Ireland. It is also one of the oldest 10KM races in Ireland. The numbers for this race have exceeded expectations year on year for the past number of years. In 2008 a record field of 306 took to the start line but by 2012 this number had more than doubled with 647 runners taking part. The starting numbers in 2013 topped this again at 668. Then this year the numbers rocketed to a new record of 883. Who knows but this race could reach 1,000 entrants next year. The work of the organising committee must be commended on making this event possible. The Dunshaughlin 10KM has earned it's place at the top of the pedestal of Irish running through the sheer hard work of Dunshaughlin AC over the years. Well done to all.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase.
