In this dream I'm on a tightrope and I'm tipping back and forth trying to keep my balance. And below me are all my relatives and if I fall I'll crush them.
Officer Cadets Hit Mid-Year Mark in Rain and Snow
As the New Zealand Commissioning Course (NZCC) midyear milestone looms, the expectations placed on Officer Cadets (OCDTs) to perform in the field is increasing. The specialisation and intensity of OCS’ field exercises increase throughout the course in proportion with the OCDTs’ ability to understand and apply basic tactics, while continuing to refine their core soldiering skills.
Exercise Alam El Halfa was a highly anticipated exercise, with war-stories from previous years indicating an opportunity for this year’s OCDTs to test their resolve and leadership ability in an environment where they could be affected by mental and physical fatigue. By all accounts, this year’s rendition of OCS’ major digging exercise proved a great success, and offered invaluable learning opportunities and command experience to all involved. The class established and occupied a company defensive position on the southern side of feature Carbuncle. All pits were developed to fighting-pit depth with over-head cover on sleeping bays and each section’s two gun pits.
Never one to disappoint, the Waiouru weather turned on its pre-winter charm, with the rain leaving once-hospitable sleeping bays looking more like something out of the Shining, and reminding the cold and soaked OCDTs what it takes to lead disciplined soldiers in the New Zealand Army. The rain and fatigue offered an important challenge to the OCDTs, who stepped up appropriately and showed commendable determination and enthusiasm to get the most out of the training available.
With the initial 72 hour digging phase completed (communications line and wire obstacles had been placed out) the second phase of the exercise was able to begin. Individual sections spent the next week conducting counter-reconnaissance patrols, occupying OPs, and establishing ambushes throughout the exercise area of operations. The OCDTs rotated through command appointments as platoon commanders, platoon sergeants, section commanders, and section 2ICs. This served to increase their knowledge of section battle drills and IAs, while further developing their ability to apply functional leadership in the field.
This phase culminated in a defensive battle and withdrawal overnight, moving on foot to feature Baggush. At Baggush the wary OCDTs regrouped and rehearsed after receiving the order that they were to return to the now Musorian-occupied defensive position and win it back. In the small hours of the following morning the company launched a deliberate attack with two platoons up, and one establishing a direct fire support base. The enemy position was cleared by first light and, with a sense of accomplishment, the OCDTs were able to get stuck into refurbishing the area before moving back to camp. During the exercise the OCDTs were privileged to witness the promotion of the now SSGT White, who always plays an integral part in the efficient running of OCS exercises.
The OCDTs are processing the lessons learned from Exercise Alam El Halfa, while preparing to return to the field for their next challenge where they will consolidate their practical understanding of platoon battle drills on Exercise Tebaga Gap.

This is a photograph from the 35th Michael Manning Memorial "Dunshaughlin 10KM" Road Race and Fun Run which took place in Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath, Ireland on Saturday 21st June 2014 at 19:30. This race is widely acknowledged in the running community as one of the best races in Ireland. It is also one of the oldest 10KM races in Ireland. The numbers for this race have exceeded expectations year on year for the past number of years. In 2008 a record field of 306 took to the start line but by 2012 this number had more than doubled with 647 runners taking part. The starting numbers in 2013 topped this again at 668. Then this year the numbers rocketed to a new record of 883. Who knows but this race could reach 1,000 entrants next year. The work of the organising committee must be commended on making this event possible. The Dunshaughlin 10KM has earned it's place at the top of the pedestal of Irish running through the sheer hard work of Dunshaughlin AC over the years. Well done to all.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. Or the theatre of lowered expectations as it may be called now. Apart from the school reunion on Saturday evening, attending a game here was the other aim of going to Suffolk over the weekend. As luck would have it, it was one of the eight league games to survive the snow, and so I got to see Norwich play and before the game meet up with old friends.
An even bigger plus point was that for the first time since the spring of 2006, I actually saw Norwich win.
This is the view from my seat in the Norwich and Peterborough Stand, or the River End as we old timers call it. To the left is the new Jarrold Stand, named after a department store in the city, to the left is the City Stand, or main stand to us old timers again; and straight ahead is the Barclay Stand, named after the banking family, who in the dim and distant past had connections to the area.
The whole ground has now been replaced since it was built in 1934, and many would argue it has lost some of it's charm as well, now that it is a 'modern' football ground. You could argue it is good to have stands with good sight lines and rake steep enough so every on the ground has a half decent view.
In years gone by, my Dad and I used to stand in the South Stand, we getting to the ground at half twelve so I could have a spot at the front of the stand and so be able to see the match. Those were the days when there was standing on three side, and the River End was completely uncovered.
One by one each stand was replaced, usually in response to a report after a disaster at another ground had left many dead and injured supporters, but each one took us further into debt.
Now the club may be forced to sell the ground to Axa and rent it back just to keep going.

Legendary places rarely conform to expectations. The pyramids in Giza are just as massive as you’d think but, at the same time, they’re strangely underwhelming, as if decades of camera-toting visitors had robbed them of their power.
Timbuktu—shorthand for back of beyond—is just as satisfyingly remote as you might hope, a dun-colored labyrinth on the edge of the Sahara. It’s been a bad couple of years for Timbuktu, though. There’s the global financial crisis—getting to northern Mali is neither easy nor cheap. Worse, Colombian cartels now ship drugs to Europe via West Africa, and Timbuktu, at the crossroads where Mali, Algeria, and Mauritania meet, is a prime spot on the smugglers’ route. There is also the regional Al Qaeda franchise, which has set up camp in the lawless deserts north of the city. They’ve kidnapped or killed both Westerners and locals. Just after New Year’s, a bomber hit the French embassy in Mali’s capital, Bamako.
Local friends tell me that much of the violence (such as the murder of a cop in the center of Timbuktu a couple of years ago) is just criminal score-settling, nothing political about it. Washington, D.C. appears to think otherwise. Special Forces teams are training the Malian army in counterinsurgency, along with the “hearts and minds” work of inoculating children and meeting with village elders. Indeed, the U.S. presence is small, but it’s noticeable. At the airport in Bamako, I watched an unmarked, narwhal-gray transport plane taxi to a stop the next runway over. The men who emerged had a distinctively American swagger, little flags on their flight suits.

It's been a really tough day for me so far. I'm so stressed out and I feel like I just want to to sleep peacefully, and wake up when I'm ready to be super happy again. My brain hurts, I'm confused, I'm strained, weared out; all of the above. I would have went on a little photo-shoot or something to calm myself and boost up my mood, but I'm limited due to me being grounded, so I searched for a picture to upload of mine instead. This really isn't the best shot, but I like the position and angle of the camera, the lighting and my pose. I'm not sure about the eyes, they're obviously edited lol but Idk if it goes with the picture or not. Dueces.
