Flower Power ( 6 of my shots featured today!)
The train chase day exceeded my expectations by a bunch. I surmised that I might not get up early enough to catch the engines leaving but lunch or after should get them coming back. Springdale turned in to an target rich environment. Caught several in action that I had not seen before. Here #32 holds the main and breezes through Springdale. #32 started life as Belt Railroad of Chicago #601 in 1965 becoming Hudson Bay Railway company 601 and is now Arkansas and Missouri #32. It is a C424.
Oh, the wonders of modern technology! My little Nikon P&S links up to a phone/tablet via an app, and allows you to use the mobile device as a live, WiFi remote control. And so you get photoception, where the camera takes a picture of a man holding a tablet displaying the picture the camera is taking, and so on until one runs out of pixels. Silly but fun, and absolutely no Photoshop required to achieve the effect.
This seemed like a particularly appropriate image for the last of my 52 self portraits project, because, despite all expectations to the contrary, I've come to enjoy the self portraits. Since I'm not possessed of much vanity, I don't really care if the pictures flatter me, and that gives me a great deal of creative freedom. They're more about the message, or dealing with the way things really are. So, I'll probably keep doing them, as I come up with ideas that inspire me... project or no.
52 of 52. My goodness, that feels good.
A summer day
In garlands I feel secure
A useless faith
That I will get you, somehow
Reach out, I wonder where you are now
Hey, there's you
With placid eyes
Oblivious to what's to come
They locked you up
So I forgot you
Forgot your name, so strange
I wonder if you got out
What is the role of the twenty-first century woman?
Magazines constantly trick females into believing that perfection is a possibility. Celebrities role model a life style whereby they instinctively hide their individualisms and become clones of society. Women therefore feel compelled to achieve this definition of ‘beautiful.’ However, is this possible, when women have so many other responsibilities within society?
Women are expected to be a successful mother, daughter and seductress simultaneously. However, in this day and age, where men are not always the ‘bread winner,’ women may also hold prosperous positions within the work place. This consequently means that women are constantly expected to live up to society’s high-pitched expectations of beauty while maintaining a healthy work and home life balance. Ultimately, women end up multi-tasking these responsibilities to meet the expectations of the twenty-first century women.
The European Experience 2016 Exceeds Expectations
What a weekend! We went into the weekend not knowing what to expect being a first year event, but left excited and ready for next year. Matthew Bounds and his crew at Sowo Partners moved the popular Southern Worthersee event from Helen, GA to a new event called “The European Experience” in Savannah Georgia, and it went off without a hitch. The two-day event was a welcomed refresh filled with friendly faces in an exciting new location with an excellent post-event night life in downtown Savannah.
We offered APR ECU and TCU upgrades at the event, as we do at nearly all events we attend, and we nearly doubled our flash count from years past at SOWO. We want to thank every customer who partook in the sale, and want to thank all those who stopped by to talk shop and shoot the breeze. Last but not least, we want to thank Matt Bounds and the SOWO Partners crew for putting on an amazing show we’re excited to attend next year.
Take a moment to view a few photos we grabbed at the event, and see you next year!

My actress friend Cassie Bradley, taken during a studio shoot in Manchester last weekend.
Cassie is currently appearing in 'Husbands and Sons', a co-production between the National Theatre and the Royal Exchange Theatre (which ends its run tonight).
On Saturday evening, I saw the play and it was terrific, very intense with excellent performances.
You can see more of my pics of Cassie in my Cassie Bradley set.
The ibis extends his feet, expecting the water to be shallow enough to be no deeper than his legs will reach. He relies on his vision to correctly assess the depth of the water and the firmness of the bottom - and to detect any alligators that might be lurking. And he expects all of that to happen in milliseconds as he commits to landing. Seems like a lot to expect, doesn't it?
We make plans, but if you get upset when your plans or expectations have to be revised, you will have a very upsetting life.
You have to be ready and able to change your plans and expectations as situations evolve, as they always do. The ability to adjust your trajectory mid-flight is critical if you are to have a happy landing. Make a plan, take off, and adjust what needs adjusting along the way.
We took a road trip this weekend, and accomplished two-thirds of our intended goals. That's not a bad ratio, considering how little actual planning went into it. Some good food, some not so good food, some good finds, and a bunch of shopping at her favorite stores..
Let's just hope it's true what they say about a 'happy wife'...
Back from celebrating Christmas I have a lot of photos to go through. Here is one of my daughter before the first presents were given on my sisters pre-christmas party.
At a public meeting in Knutsford in October, Northern’s Regional Director apparently said that there would be no Class 142s on the Mid-Cheshire line after the December timetable change. Well, as Arnie might say, "He lied" and here's 142043 about to leave Hale on 23 December 2019 with 2H35 18:01 Chester to Manchester Piccadilly to prove it. The driver looks a bit puzzled as to why someone is taking a photo of this most reviled type of train.
Strangley (perhaps) the colors are as seen. Just pumped the EV up so high that I actually heard Scotty's incredulous expectations about the camera's power. (btw this is some sort of awning over a public picnic table.)
