Arnold Schönberg's Erwartung - A Performance by Robin Rhode
Robin Rhode imagines Austrian composer Arnold Schönberg's Erwartung (Expectation) in Arnold Schönberg's Erwartung - A Performance by Robin Rhode. In partnership with Performa15. Composed in 1909, Erwartung takes the unusual form of a one-act monodrama for a solo soprano, accompanied by a large orchestra. For Rhode, this atonal opera about love, loss, and lamentation, recalled the many hardships experienced by women in South Africa during and after the fall of Apartheid. Originally set in the moonlit, wilderness of the forest, Rhodeâs reproduction of Arnold Schönberg's Erwartung - A Performance by Robin Rhode interprets Times Square itself to be a contemporary forest filled with light emanating from the electronic billboards instead of the moon. The performance takes place in a huge aria with just one soprano and non-speaking performer carrying out the opera, with the sights and sounds of Times Square acting as a Greek Chorus in the background.

Saw the original and was moved, the way the woman's eyes are closed, lips slightly parted, waiting-- for a kiss? for a spirit? Stared at it for a while before deciding I wanted to pay tribute to it somehow.
Out for dinner at a restaurant, Valerio couldn't wait for the watermelon coming, when finally he saw the waitress bringing it, he ran to me and said "it is very big!"
This photo meets the requirements for expectation 2: architecture. Because of the bright LEDs from the ferris wheel, I had to use a higher f-stop and the lowest possible ISO in order to expose the image for an entire 30 seconds. During this exposure period, the wheel hardly moved giving the lights a layered effect. It was also raining, which accounts for the spots on the lens. Using a tripod, I was able to achieve an image without motion blur. The image was edited in Lightroom. I brightened shadows, color, and attempted to make the image as bright as possible without over exposing the image.

I challenge the stereotype that asians are too conservative and afraid to show skin. After my sleeping piece where I revealed my feelings I took it a bit further and posed nude for these two paintings. The idea was to reveal what there is to reveal carrying the message that I am not afraid to be myself. Compared with my previous piece this piece demonstrates the contrary. Here I'm confident and looking towards the audience in a serious expression. My body language is reserved but Im totally exposed. The back ground is reminds one of shattering glass, just like the purpose of this piece which is coming out of the stereotype.
