Before I went to Brickfair Virginia I started expanding my storage area to give me some “breathing room” while building. It has not been fully successful as I just have too many of certain colors (black, bleys, white) taking up too much space.
On the other hand, I have succeeded in freeing up room in the “commonly used parts” section, and can now sort with a goal of clearing this workspace for the first time in a long while. The plan is to finish the sort, then get to work on this decade-overdue Starfighter Telephone starfighter, then back to my grand vision of a full complement of starfighters from all factions across all eras.
Believe it or not, the biggest problem right now is minifigs. I just have so many!!!

"The Reynolds-Morris House is a historic house at 225 South 8th Street in the Washington Square West neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Built in 1786–87 by John and William Reynolds, it is a well-preserved example of a Philadelphia Georgian townhouse. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1967, and is currently operated as a hotel.
The Reynolds-Morris House stands one block west of Washington Square in Philadelphia's Center City, on the east side of South 8th Street between St. James and Locust Streets. It is a 3+1⁄2-story brick building, with a gabled roof pierced by pedimented gable dormers. It is five bays wide, with the main entrance at the center, framed by pilasters and a half-round transom topped by a gable. The walls are laid in Flemish bond, with projecting stringcourses between the floors. Sash windows are set under heavy splayed stone lintels with scoring that is intended to resemble keystoning. The interior spaces are adorned with high quality Federal period woodwork.
The house is a rare example of a double rowhouse, built on two lots in 1786–87 by John and William Reynods. It was sold in 1817 to Luke Wistar Morris, the son of captain Samuel Morris of the First City Troop, of the prominent Morris family, who occupied the house for 120 years. Although it was built as a rowhouse, the neighboring houses were bought and torn down by the Morrises in the early 20th century. The historic home was later transformed into a boutique hotel amid a greater series of renovations during the early 21st century. Debuting as the Morris House Hotel in 2004, the building was inducted into Historic Hotels of America, an official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, in 2022.
Washington Square West is a neighborhood Center City Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The neighborhood roughly corresponds to the area between 7th and Broad Streets and between Chestnut and South Streets, bordering on the Independence Mall tourist area directly northeast, Market East to the north, Old City and Society Hill to the East, Bella Vista directly south, Hawthorne to the southwest, and mid-town Philadelphia and Rittenhouse Square to the west. In addition to being a desirable residential community, it is considered a hip, trendy neighborhood that offers a diverse array of shops, restaurants, and coffee houses. Washington Square West contains many gay-friendly establishments and hosts annual events celebrating LGBT culture in Philadelphia including OutFest. The area takes its name from Washington Square, a historic urban park in the northeastern corner of the neighborhood.
Philadelphia's Antique Row lies in the area, as does the nation's oldest hospital, Pennsylvania Hospital, and Philadelphia's oldest Jewish burial ground, Mikveh Israel Cemetery. Educational and medical facilities associated with Thomas Jefferson University, a leading regional medical university and health care center, are located within the neighborhood. The one-time headquarters of the former Curtis Publishing Company and the University of the Arts lie at the edges of the neighborhood.
Washington Square West's real estate is mixed commercial, residential and service industries, characterized by two, three, and four-story rowhouses interspersed with condominiums, mid-rise apartments, hospitals and offices with ground-floor retail. The neighborhood follows William Penn's original grid layout for the city, with many one-lane and pedestrian side streets added later as the population became denser. In addition to the block-sized Washington Square Park to the East, the neighborhood contains the smaller Kahn Park, named after the Philadelphia architect Louis Kahn who resided in the neighborhood.
Philadelphia, often called Philly, is the largest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the sixth-largest city in the U.S., the second-largest city in both the Northeast megalopolis and Mid-Atlantic regions after New York City, and the 68th-largest city in the world. Since 1854, the city has been coextensive with Philadelphia County, the most populous county in Pennsylvania and the urban core of the Delaware Valley, the nation's seventh-largest and world's 68th-largest metropolitan region, with 6.245 million residents as of 2020. The city's population as of the 2020 census was 1,603,797, and over 56 million people live within 250 mi (400 km) of Philadelphia.
Philadelphia was founded in 1682 by William Penn, an English Quaker. The city served as capital of the Pennsylvania Colony during the British colonial era and went on to play a historic and vital role as the central meeting place for the nation's founding fathers whose plans and actions in Philadelphia ultimately inspired the American Revolution and the nation's independence. Philadelphia hosted the First Continental Congress in 1774 following the Boston Tea Party, preserved the Liberty Bell, and hosted the Second Continental Congress during which the founders signed the Declaration of Independence, which historian Joseph Ellis has described as "the most potent and consequential words in American history". Once the Revolutionary War commenced, both the Battle of Germantown and the Siege of Fort Mifflin were fought within Philadelphia's city limits. The U.S. Constitution was later ratified in Philadelphia at the Philadelphia Convention of 1787. Philadelphia remained the nation's largest city until 1790, when it was surpassed by New York City, and served as the nation's first capital from May 10, 1775, until December 12, 1776, and on four subsequent occasions during and following the American Revolution, including from 1790 to 1800 while the new national capital of Washington, D.C. was under construction.
During the 19th and 20th centuries, Philadelphia emerged as a major national industrial center and railroad hub. The city’s blossoming industrial sector attracted European immigrants, predominantly from Germany and Ireland, the two largest reported ancestry groups in the city as of 2015. In the 20th century, immigrant waves from Italy and elsewhere in Southern Europe arrived. Following the end of the Civil War in 1865, Philadelphia became a leading destination for African Americans in the Great Migration. In the 20th century, Puerto Rican Americans moved to the city in large numbers. Between 1890 and 1950, Philadelphia's population doubled to 2.07 million. Philadelphia has since attracted immigrants from East and South Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America.
With 18 four-year universities and colleges, Philadelphia is one of the nation's leading centers for higher education and academic research. As of 2021, the Philadelphia metropolitan area was the nation's ninth-largest metropolitan economy with a gross metropolitan product (GMP) of US$479 billion. Philadelphia is the largest center of economic activity in Pennsylvania and the broader multi-state Delaware Valley region; the city is home to five Fortune 500 corporate headquarters as of 2022. The Philadelphia skyline, which includes several globally renowned commercial skyscrapers, is expanding, primarily with new residential high-rise condominiums. The city and the Delaware Valley are a biotechnology and venture capital hub; and the Philadelphia Stock Exchange, owned by NASDAQ, is the nation's oldest stock exchange and a global leader in options trading. 30th Street Station, the city's primary rail station, is the third-busiest Amtrak hub in the nation, and the city's multimodal transport and logistics infrastructure, including Philadelphia International Airport, the PhilaPort seaport, freight rail infrastructure, roadway traffic capacity, and warehouse storage space, are all expanding.
Philadelphia is a national cultural hub, hosting more outdoor sculptures and murals than any other American city. Fairmount Park, when combined with adjacent Wissahickon Valley Park in the same watershed, is 2,052 acres (830 ha), representing one of the nation's largest contiguous urban parks and the 45th largest urban park in the world. The city is known for its arts, culture, cuisine, and colonial and Revolution-era history; in 2016, it attracted 42 million domestic tourists who spent $6.8 billion, representing $11 billion in total economic impact to the city and surrounding Pennsylvania counties.
With five professional sports teams and a hugely loyal fan base, the city is often ranked as the nation's best city for professional sports fans. The city has a culturally and philanthropically active LGBTQ+ community. Philadelphia also has played an immensely influential historic and ongoing role in the development and evolution of American music, especially R&B, soul, and rock.
Philadelphia is a city of many firsts, including the nation's first library (1731), hospital (1751), medical school (1765), national capital (1774), university (by some accounts) (1779), stock exchange (1790), zoo (1874), and business school (1881). Philadelphia contains 67 National Historic Landmarks, including Independence Hall. From the city's 17th century founding through the present, Philadelphia has been the birthplace or home to an extensive number of prominent and influential Americans. In 2021, Time magazine named Philadelphia one of the world's greatest 100 places." - info from Wikipedia.
The fall of 2022 I did my 3rd major cycling tour. I began my adventure in Montreal, Canada and finished in Savannah, GA. This tour took me through the oldest parts of Quebec and the 13 original US states. During this adventure I cycled 7,126 km over the course of 2.5 months and took more than 68,000 photos. As with my previous tours, a major focus was to photograph historic architecture.

The start of 2017 saw United Airlines officially introduce their newest Business Class product, Polaris following the introduction of their newest wide-body jet, the Boeing 777-300ER.
So far, delays to the introduction and retrofitting of the Polaris Business Class seat by Zodiac Aerospace UK have seen the schedule pushed back with the first Boeing 767-300ER's already gaining the new seats.
Earlier in October 2017, United have internally released details of future Polaris fitted Boeing 777-200ER's and a corresponding seat-map. Currently, there are 2 different international-configured Boeing 777-200ER's in service with United; the post-merger United variants which feature their old First Class interiors, and the post-merger Continental variants arranged in a 2-class layout.
A notable feature of the Polaris Boeing 777-200ER's will be the conversion to a 10-abreast layout in Economy, very unsurprising considering this is now the norm. Of the Boeing 777-200ER's in service with the major US carriers, United will have the densest Business Class interiors considering the airline operates considerably more international flights.
2 Boeing 777-200ER's are currently in Hong Kong undergoing maintenance and is not fully confirmed that they are being reconfigured, however considering that United's Boeing 767-300ER's were reconfigured in Hong Kong shows that they maybe in the process of being retrofitted.
Currently, United operates 88 Boeing 777's, which includes 19 Boeing 777-200's, 55 Boeing 777-200ER's and 14 Boeing 777-300ER's. United have 4 Boeing 777-300ER's on-order.
November Seven Eight Zero One Seven is one of 55 Boeing 777-200ER's in service with United, delivered new to Continental Air Lines in March 2002, and transferred over to United following the merger with Continental in October 2010 and she is powered by General Electric GE90-92B engines. She has carried Star Alliance colours since November 2009.

I had an accident on my ‘ability’ scooter yesterday at Burry Port Harbour. It was very cold and very windy there so we decided to come home which meant crossing a narrow bridge. As I was half way across, I saw a man coming towards me and shouted out “Keep your distance, please!” but he carried on regardless so I went into reverse on my scooter and whether it was driver error on my part, or the fact that I don’t have eyes in the back of my head, I hit a kerb so hard that I got flung out of my scooter down a short but steep embankment. The front basket flew off as did the under basket. An old gent jumped up from a bench to help me up, but Huw who’d already gone ahead came running “Don’t touch her. Leave her alone!” in case I’d broken any bones.
Thankfully I got up of my own accord, unharmed which is nothing short of a miracle. Huw put the scooter pieces back together- they too were unharmed. (Pic of my ‘alternative legs’ in comments )
If there’s a moral to this then please everyone, if you see anyone that is less abled than you , then keep your distance – the person you see might not be able to move out of your way, whether it’s a pedestrian or someone like me who is unable to walk unaided....

Well, I'm back from west Africa and just in time. My tomato plants "Hansel & Gretel" were trying to get out of the cage! Well I had to put a stop to that and extended the top of their cage. Otherwise Stephanie and I would not be able to eat their children alive on a salad or roast them over a hot flaming grill. Yum Yum!

I'm planning an entire series based on this concept, and it will be a bit more interesting than this shot. Now that I know how to do this, it's not too difficult to produce more shots like this. The most difficult part is putting my suit and tie together without me in it, not that it has to exactly match up with the original, but it just takes awhile to put a tie on an empty shirt.
I had something else in mind for this shot, but got kicked off the other rooftop by security before I could even get my tripod set up. Probably won't be redoing this particular shot, as I rather like how it turned out.
Although the other end of the store was expanded at some point, the west end still retains the virtually untouched (except for the brown paint over, of course) garden center. Brown was an original, 80's Wal-Mart "Discount City" type color scheme anyway. Walmart has gone from brown (1980's) to blue/gray (1990's) exteriors, then back to brown for Project Impact. Now it appears they will be going back to blue/gray again in the near future for the next wave of remodels: flic.kr/p/G5oQFW, photo by Just Chilling.. Seems like Walmart has figured out a sneaky way to appeal to all generations and their fascination for nostalgia: just keep flipping the exterior color schemes back and forth!

Darlington Transport Company - the former Darlington Corporation Transport - expanded beyond its traditional boundaries in the post-deregulation years, expanding its fleet with several astute second-hand purchases. LTE 494P was one of a batch of Plaxton-bodied Leyland Leopards that had led a nomadic life. New to Lancashire United Transport, they passed with that business to SELNEC (later Greater Manchester) PTE. In the mid-1980s, they were acquired by Busways Travel Services and allocated to its Blue Bus Services and Favourite Services subsidiaries. Surprisingly, they then passed to Hylton Castle Coaches (Catch-A-Bus) of East Boldon - a competitor of Busways – and, when that company ceased trading – to DTC. If you can add dates to these moves, please let me know in the comments (14-Jul-23).

In the winter of viral discontent, it might be easy to overlook some recent breakthroughs in lifespan expansion.
David Sinclair from Harvard Medical School just published the latest advances in reversing the biological clock and restoring function in the vision system. Full disclosure: after I read his book, he helped with due diligence when we became the largest investor in Cambrian Bio, a company that seeks to reverse the root causes of aging and disease.
Sinclair’s focus in on analog information loss, the epigenetic noise that accumulates in the methylation patterns running along our DNA and disturbing its expression. This degradation is a biological clock of aging, and today’s results “tell us the clock doesn't just represent time—it is time," said Sinclair. "If you wind the hands of the clock back, time also goes backward." (more book quotes below, after the news)
Today’s news: “Harvard Medical School scientists have successfully restored vision in mice by turning back the clock on aged eye cells in the retina to recapture youthful gene function. The achievement represents the first successful attempt to reverse glaucoma-induced vision loss, rather than merely stem its progression, the team said. If replicated through further studies, the approach could pave the way for therapies to promote tissue repair across various organs and reverse aging and age-related diseases in humans.
The team's approach is based on a new theory about why we age. Most cells in the body contain the same DNA molecules but have widely diverse functions. To achieve this degree of specialization, these cells must read only genes specific to their type. This regulatory function is the purview of the epigenome, a system of turning genes on and off in specific patterns without altering the basic underlying DNA sequence of the gene.
This theory postulates that changes to the epigenome over time cause cells to read the wrong genes and malfunction—giving rise to diseases of aging. One of the most important changes to the epigenome is DNA methylation, a process by which methyl groups are tacked onto DNA. Patterns of DNA methylation are laid down during embryonic development to produce the various cell types. Over time, youthful patterns of DNA methylation are lost, and genes inside cells that should be switched on get turned off and vice versa, resulting in impaired cellular function. Some of these DNA methylation changes are predictable and have been used to determine the biologic age of a cell or tissue.
The treatment worked similarly well in elderly, 12-month-old mice with diminishing vision due to normal aging. Following treatment of the elderly mice, the gene expression patterns and electrical signals of the optic nerve cells were similar to young mice, and vision was restored. When the researchers analyzed molecular changes in treated cells, they found reversed patterns of DNA methylation—an observation suggesting that DNA methylation is not a mere marker or a bystander in the aging process, but rather an active agent driving it.”
And from the Nature Paper:
“Ageing is a degenerative process that leads to tissue dysfunction and death. A proposed cause of ageing is the accumulation of epigenetic noise that disrupts gene expression patterns, leading to decreases in tissue function and regenerative capacity. Changes to DNA methylation patterns over time form the basis of ageing clocks… Collectively, these changes cause cells to lose their identity and so to lose the DNA-, RNA- and protein-expression patterns that once promoted their youthful resilience. These data indicate that mammalian tissues retain a record of youthful epigenetic information—encoded in part by DNA methylation—that can be accessed to improve tissue function and promote regeneration in vivo.”
Some of my favorite passages from his recent book, Lifespan:
“Aging, quite simply, is a loss of information. Yes, a singular reason why we age.” (p.20)
“Unlike digital DNA, analog information degrades over time — falling victim to the conspiring forces of magnetic fields, gravity, cosmic rays, and oxygen. Worse still, information is lost as it’s copied.” (p.22)
“Our DNA is constantly under attack. On average, each of our 46 chromosomes is broken in some way every time a cell copies its DNA, amounting to more than 2 trillion breaks in our body per day. And that’s just the breaks that occur during replication. If we didn’t have a way to repair our DNA wouldn’t last long.: (p.44) “Sirtuins stabilize human rDNA and prevent cellular senescence.” (p.43) “Adding more copies of the sirtuin genes increases the health and extends the lifespan of mice, just as adding extra copies does in yeast.” (p.45).
“Aging itself is a disease. Physicians and researchers have been avoiding saying that for a long time. Aging, we’ve long been told, is simply the process of growing old. And growing old has long been seen as an inevitable part of life.” (p.67).
“We know the process of aging begins long before we notice it. Girls who go through puberty earlier than normal, for example, have an accelerated epigenetic clock. The mistakes are there, even as a teenager.” (p.72)
“Your chance of developing a lethal disease increases by a thousandfold between the ages of 20 and 70, so preventing one disease makes little difference to lifespan.” (p.77) “Though smoking increases the risk of getting cancer five fold, being 50 years old increases your cancer risk a hundredfold. By the age of 70, it’s a thousandfold. Such exponentially increasing odds also apply to heart disease. And diabetes. And dementia.” (p.80)
“There’s a reason smokers seem to age fast: they do age faster. Smoking is not a private, victimless activity. The levels of DNA-damaging aromatic amines in cigarette smoke are about 50 to 60 times as high in secondhand as in firsthand smoke. In some places — cities with lots of cars, especially — the simple act of breathing is enough to do extra damage to your DNA.” (p.113)
“NAD boosts the activity of all seven sirtuins. And because NAD is used by over 500 different enzymes, without any NAD, we’d be dead in 30 seconds. NAD acts as a fuel for sirtuins. NAD levels decrease with age throughout the body. Human studies with NAD boosters (NMN and NR) are ongoing. So far, there has been no toxicity, not even a hint of it.” (p.134)
“Once you recognize that there are universal regulators of aging in everything from yeast to roundworms to mice to humans… and once you recognize that these regulators can be changed with a molecule such as NMN or a few hours of vigorous exercise or a few less meals… and once you realize that it’s all just one disease, it all becomes clear: Aging is going to be remarkably easy to tackle. Easier than cancer. I know how that sounds. It sounds crazy.” (p.148)
“Together, all the DNA in our body, if laid end to end, would stretch twice the diameter of the solar system. Unlike a simple DVD, the DNA in our cells is wet and vibrating in three dimensions. No wonder gene reading becomes difficult the older we get; it’s miraculous that any cell finds the right genes in the first place.” (p.159)
“That’s the world’s biggest problem: the future is seen as someone else’s concern. This is what I want to change— more than anything else in the world. I want everyone to expect that they will meet not only their grandchildren but their great-great-grandchildren. We will be accountable — in this life — for the decisions we made in the past that will impact the future. That, more than anything else, is how our understanding of aging and inevitable prolonged vitality is going to change the world. It will compel us to confront the challenges we currently push down the road.” (p.292-3)
This project has been expanded from a previous project of still lifes I has made in 2013.
This Metaphysical way of seeing can be best explained through a type of object daydream. We all experience this sort of pure compositional seeing when we dwell on every object in our field of vision.

"RAGE--Sing, O goddess, the anger of Achilles son of Peleus, that brought countless ills upon the Achaeans. Many a brave soul did it send hurrying down to Hades, and many a hero did it yield a prey to dogs and vultures, for so were the counsels of Zeus fulfilled from the day on which the son of Atreus, king of men, and great Achilles, first fell out with one another. " --Homer's Iliad capturing the rage of the 45EPIC landscapes and seascapes! :)
Ludwig van Beethoven: "Music/poetry/art should strike fire from the heart of man, and bring tears from the eyes of woman."

Square shape by Angel Ecija Blanco
By looking at the crease pattern, I realized that you can fold other shaped boxes as well. Hexagonal & Octagonal versions calculated by me.
This is the second model that I folded from Angel Ecija Blanco's designs. The first one is the Self-Closing Twist Box (origamitutorials.com/self-closing-origami-twist-box/). Both designs share a few elements and are interesting to fold. You can read more here: origamitutorials.com/expandable-origami-coin-purse/

All art is but imitation of nature.-- Seneca (Letters from a Stoic - Letter LXV: On the First Cause)
The universe itself is God and the universal outpouring of its soul. --Chrysippus (Quoted by Cicero in De Natura Deorum)
Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For Summer has o'er-brimm'd their clammy cells. --To Autumn. by John Keats
