One regret dear world, that I am determined not to have when I am lying on my deathbed is that I did not kiss you enough.

Usually I agonize over which photo to upload to Flickr and today was no exception but -then- I had to further agonize over which version of the image to use as there were three which I really liked. I'd forgotten how great railway tracks are to shoot.

King Vulture that is!! When I photograph birds, I usually choose Not to take photos of vultures. But I make exceptions to the colorful King Vulture.
The theme of Macro Mondays for this week is Redux. I chose the curves theme and have cropped this one quite a bit. Color processing always feels challenging and this one was no exception. I hope this brightens your day and serves as reminder that we all have challenges that we need to work on overcoming.
The Reduviidae are a large cosmopolitan family of the order Hemiptera (true bugs). They are unusual among the Hemiptera because almost all are terrestrial ambush predators (most other predatory Hemiptera are aquatic). The main examples of nonpredatory Reduviidae are some blood-sucking ectoparasites in the subfamily Triatominae. Though spectacular exceptions are known, most members of the family are fairly easily recognizable; they have a relatively narrow neck, sturdy build, and formidable curved proboscis (sometimes called a rostrum). Large specimens should be handled with caution, if at all, because they sometimes defend themselves with a very painful stab from the proboscis. Predatory Reduviidae use the long rostrum to inject a lethal saliva that liquefies the insides of the prey, which are then sucked out. The saliva contains enzymes that digest the tissues they swallow. This process is generally referred to as extraoral digestion. The saliva is commonly effective at killing prey substantially larger than the bug itself. 2201
Quand tu as réussi à saisir l'instant , tu as de quoi être satisfait...
Not often do I publish in black and white, but I'll make an exception for this one. I hope you'll like it.
As the last light of the setting evening Sun hits the Pine Trees the lead Sandhill Crane launches to lead its family group back to its roost for the evening! This light only lasts for a very few minutes as the Pine Trees start to glow the color of the setting Sun. That day the Cranes took off at the right time and I barely had enough light to take a picture!! Thanks for looking and we will see everyone on Wednesday!! We always appreciate the time you spend looking and commenting on our images!!

Royal Tern Feeding: With rare exception, when the adult arrived with fish, the chick knew what was coming and took a position ready to receive the food. The transfer generally took place in an instant, the adult then raising it's beak to ward off interloping Laughing Gulls or greedy terns. Great sport trying to get the moment of transfer, especially with a west wind and an east sun. If it wasn't hard it wouldn't be fun. Take care, Mike
Friday's R-MRL841 tends to return east with a healthy cut of power, as they often bring back the Logan local power for relay to Livingston or points east. This week's train was no exception, and with an extra GP9 in the mix, they ended up having five engines. After building their train at Logan, they wasted no time heading east - we beat them from the west end of Manhattan siding here to the west end of Bozeman siding with seconds to spare.

On a plot of approximately 1650m², the vegetable patch and the small garden of aromatic plants and cut flowers originally allowed the hostess, who maintained them, to enrich the ordinary of family life.
It is on this location and in order to relive the tradition and horticultural know-how that has made Antibes "the capital of the Rose" for years, that the City wanted to transform this garden into a rose garden.
The 1760 plants needed were kindly donated to the City by two famous rose growers from Antibes, Meilland and Fazari. Prestigious varieties have been planted: Catherine Deneuve, Philippe Noiret, Marcel Pagnol, Christophe Colomb, Princesse de Monaco (Ets Meilland) and Brazzero, Eve, Ivoirine, Majestic, Pramila (Ets Fazari).

A large stand of Bougainvillea (the size of a 5-car garage) was peppered with buzzing hummingbirds. They zipped from stem to stem, never landing anywhere in the open.
This juvenile male Ruby-throated Hummingbird was an exception. He perched with his tiny legs and tiny feet on this twig for long enough to take several pictures...very cooperatively :-)) He is just beginning to develop the ruby throat that should be completed by August of the year.
Pelicans are a genus of large water birds that make up the family Pelecanidae. They are characterised by a long beak and a large throat pouch used for catching prey and draining water from the scooped-up contents before swallowing. They have predominantly pale plumage, the exceptions being the brown and Peruvian pelicans. The bills, pouches, and bare facial skin of all species become brightly coloured before the breeding season. The eight living pelican species have a patchy global distribution, ranging latitudinally from the tropics to the temperate zone, though they are absent from interior South America and from polar regions and the open ocean. Pelicans frequent inland and coastal waters, where they feed principally on fish, catching them at or near the water surface. They are gregarious birds, travelling in flocks, hunting cooperatively, and breeding colonially. Four white-plumaged species tend to nest on the ground, and four brown or grey-plumaged species nest mainly in trees. The relationship between pelicans and people has often been contentious. The birds have been persecuted because of their perceived competition with commercial and recreational fishing. Their populations have fallen through habitat destruction, disturbance, and environmental pollution, and three species are of conservation concern. They also have a long history of cultural significance in mythology, and in Christian and heraldic iconography. 28041
With the exception of the camera, everything about this photo is vintage: the two magnifiers, the piece of marble that serves as a background, the lens with which this photo was taken, not to mention me... 😅
Thank you for your views, faves and or comments, they are much appreciated!

This Green Veined White was quite happy feeding when this male Orange Tip took exception to its presence but the White was going nowhere and the Orange Tip continued to harass the white giving me the chance to get some shots. Z for detail
I love it along here whatever the weather or time of day. Today was no exception, didn't start out till after lunch as we had an errand to run. Also Hubbie is nursing a recurring back problem so I went for a walk by myself. Not the holiday we had planned but we will make the most of it. Managed to dodge the showers and get back in time for tea. Hubbie had enjoyed pottering about with his new cooking hobby.
In the distance to the right, the little pimple is Win Hill which we climbed yesterday, and you may just make out a rainbow.
Unlike swans, Canada geese and most ducks (Shovelers are an exception), the Snow goose lifts off pretty directly, without running along the water first.
I hate collages, but in this point I will do an exception.
I was shooting with my Helios lens, with manual focus, and coming back to the house I saw Chico in the olive tree.
To get focus with this lens is not easy. Anyway I shooted.
When I checked the photos at home, I verified a very good sharpness in the photos and a very funny serie of Chico yawning.
I hope you enjoy with this collage picture :-)
What it was hunting was unclear, although I read that their diet may contain amphibians. Maybe it had some heron genes in its DNA ! The carrion crow is the species of Western Europe, with the curious exception of Ireland and parts of Scotland. There, as in Italy and Eastern Europe, the hooded crow (C. cornix) dominates.

With the exception of the male Kestrel, these Hawks may be our most attractive raptor in terms of plumage. I must have seen at least 6 Hawks perched in trees on my way home from Eagles Landing State Park, but I believe this was the only Red-shouldered Hawk. It seems to me that they more often perch hidden on lower branches. This guy's promient perch out in the open, made him/her an irresistible photo op. Naturally, I pulled my car off the road to capture these images.

Thank you for taking the time to view this photo, and for the faves and comments you make, thank you.
There's always one somewhere that has to buck the trend and this tree is no exception. The tentacle like branch just seems so out of proportion to the rest of the tree. Nature having an odd moment :-)
I have two versions of this photo - one with children and one without. Debated which one to post because I don't always feature people in my photos unless they are silhouettes. Making exceptions here. These kids have house nearby. They just stroll around and talk to strangers comfortably. They are part of the landscape as much as the sky and sea.
First of all, it’s no secret that I am a photographer, and it’s no secret that I used my iPhone to take this photo, and it’s also no secret that what you see in this photo is something that I and my fellow photogs adhere to. With the exception that phones and tablets can access some places and things that SLR/DSLR cameras cannot access, nothing will replace the DSLR camera, not straightaway, at least. In spite of the fact that phones and tablets have advanced to the tune of having portable lenses-even DSLR lenses-attached to them, they are still limited in comparison to the real thing. Any real photographer will tell you that.
But, unless you have the slightest idea what the icons on this mug explains, sorry to bruise your ego, but you ain’t no photographer!
You. Don’t. Even. Come. Close!
End of story!

All but one is obvious due to the grey Opel standing apart from the crowd. - However, it is also an all but two (the two red cars), an all but three (three are standing in the opposite direction), and an all but four (the four whites).
It is very interesting to see in 2025 how the world has changed during these years.

Hi All, With the current state of the union and Ohio's stay at home order I have fortunately been able to take advantage of the outdoor exercise exception. I have a wonderful marsh across the street from my house and wading in mucky marshes is indeed good exercise! Best of all, proper social distancing is guaranteed!
*****
They're so rare where I live and almost always white.
So, this one, for me, is an exception 😇.
Well yes, since the flora and fauna in my area are very poor and not very diverse, I really don't have much choice...
Great artists come and go; they are born and they die; but there is one exception who has been living for thousands of years and still continues creating new works, new beauties every year: The Autumn!

With the exception of a few spots that were their usual bold colors, fall color in Michigan this year was not as potent as I hoped for. This past summer was pretty dry, which stressed the trees and lead to a bounty of brown leaves in spots known for good color, and uneven color progression in others. The known hot spots were good enough, including this one in Byron. With a decent train, the OSTN comes up the hill coming back north from a Saturday run south.
In mid to late February the Great Egrets in Southern Florida are at peak color and have the amazing plumage that starts the beautiful courtship rituals that take place in Rookery's all over Southern Florida!! This Great Egret has about as pretty plumage and display as we have ever seen!! The displays went on several times a day for well over a week before a match was made. Thanks for looking!! Linda and I will see everyone on Wednesday!!
On a side note, Great Egrets captured in North Carolina had transmitters placed on them, migrated all the way down to Columbia, South America to spend the winter. This was reported in North Carolina Wildlife Magazine !!
