" When I was younger

I saw my daddy cry

And curse at the wind

He broke his own heart

And I watched

As he tried to reassemble it

And my momma swore

That she would never let herself forget

And that was the day that I promised

I'd never sing of love

If it does not exist, but darlin'

You are, the only exception

You are, the only exception

You are, the only exception

You are, the only exception .. "

The Song

Milk Motion makes incredible scenes, almost every month. This month was no exception and brought us the Water Edge's Scene. The scene is beautifully arranged and the bridge stands over water filled with lilly pads and cattails. The party balloons are perhaps my new favorite thing and I want to rezz these celebratory trees all over Ippos...

With the exception of a few decades in the distant past, Rottumeroog has always been an uninhabitaded island far away from the mainland.

The only residents were the National Beach Guardians and their families who had to ensure that the sea walls had to be maintained, because the island functioned as a huge breakwater for the mainland of the province of Groningen.

When the dikes in Groningen were brought to Delta height, this function disappeared and in 1991 the island was returned to nature by the Dutch government and the island has been at the mercy of the sea.

During northwesterly storms the seawater in the basin between the Netherlands, England, Nothwest Germany, Denmark and Norway is pushed up and the very high and long waves from the Atlantic can reach the eastern coasts.

As a result a so called "wash over" was created in 1999 and the island narrowly escaped a total disappearence by the seething waves.

The place were the relentless sea strucked is clearly visible from the old coastal light as a sandy spot as a sign that a very large part of the row of dunes has completely wiped out there.

During this wash over, millions of tons of sand moved from the west coast to the east coast of the island....

One of the largest muroids, it is a brown or grey rodent with a body up to 25 cm (10 in) long, and a similar tail length; the male weighs on average 350 g (12 oz) and the female 250 g (9 oz). Thought to have originated in northern China, this rodent has now spread to all continents except Antarctica, and is the dominant rat in Europe and much of North America—making it by at least this particular definition the most successful mammal on the planet after humans.[2] With rare exceptions, the brown rat lives wherever humans live, particularly in urban areas.

The northern side of the volcano is almost entirely devoid of vegetation (with the exception of some cacti) as it has been resurfaced in more recent times by lava flows.

Jasminocereus (meaning "jasmine-like cereus", referring to the flowers) is a genus of cacti with only one species, Jasminocereus thouarsii, endemic to the Galápagos Islands, territorially a part of Ecuador. In English it is often called the candelabra cactus (a name used for other cacti with a similar appearance). At maturity it has a branched, treelike habit, and may be up to 7 m (23 ft) tall. The stems are made up of individual sections with constrictions between them. Its creamy white to greenish flowers open at night and are followed by greenish to reddish fruits.

Jasminocereus thouarsii is endemic to the Galápagos, where it is found on Fernandina, Floreana, Isabela, San Cristóbal, Santa Cruz and Santiago, plus some islets, including Bartolomé. It is found in arid areas, from the coast up to about 300 m (980 ft) on the larger islands.

The fruits of Jasminocereus thouarsii (particularly var. delicatus for those who distinguish varieties) have been used to make a fruit juice described as "refreshing".

The painted-snipe is not related to the true snipes and differs from them in habits, flight and appearance, being far more colorful and having longer legs than the snipes. It is unusual in that the female is larger and more brightly colored than the male, with the sides of the head, neck and throat a rich chestnut brown, and a distinct black band across the breast; the male is paler and greyer.

Mostly in the animal kingdom the males are more beautiful than the females. There are exceptions of course, like in humans, where females are far more beautiful than males. This bird is also an exception. The female is more colourful. I saw a female as well, but couldn't get her well on the photo.

The Nord/LB administration building was built between 1998 and 2002 and designed by the architectural firm Behnisch, Behnisch & Partner.

The 18 floors of the high-rise do not follow a strict rectangular arrangement, but are arranged in blocks and twisted against each other. With the exception of the top three floors, there are no two identical ceilings in the tower: the floors are not only partially twisted against each other, but also set back from each other. The tower is stabilized, among other things, by the adjacent parts of the building and a continuous fire shaft running to the rear. However, two steel composite supports carry the majority of the load. They are therefore 1 m thick and partly run outdoors for balance reasons. To prevent the supports from shortening in low temperatures, they must be heated in winter.

First exception (with permission). My favorite place in the woods where I walk just about everyday.

the big exception to the rule... it`s not my favorite river Lippe but the Haltern lake - main water supply for the northern part of the Ruhrgebiet...

the water was absolutely calm and we had the chance to sit and watch the evening colors` change ... waiting to the edge of darkness.. :=)))

I'm not sure what's going on this winter. In the most important sense it's a good thing. Nobody has had their house blown to smithereens and with the exception of those unfortunate folk on the Somerset Levels, nobody has had to use a canoe to leave their home via the first floor window. I should stop being selfish and think of the safety of others. Of course I should. But it is strange that we've not been assaulted by Agnes, battered by Bruce or clouted by Clara - or whatever names have been reserved for the storms that haven't arrived this winter. Normally by the second half of February we'd be bracing ourselves for Enid, or maybe even Frankincense. Frankincense? Who came up with that one?

Even a modest tempest at the coast would be something, but every time I've been to the ocean recently, conditions have been disagreeably agreeable. The surfers love it of course, and so do the day trippers, dragging their kids along behind them this half term week. It's all so peaceful - none of your wind and foul rain that keeps the distractions away. None of your white froth chasing around the sea stacks and filling the water with a lattice of glorious streaks. Cornwall has been as calm as I've witnessed in many a winter. Not once have the roof tiles been subjected to attempts to wrench them from their resting places and relocate them in the neighbouring gardens.

So while I continue to wait patiently for something that might at least deliver a small increase to the pulse rate, I've gone back into the annals to remind myself what a busy day on the weather front looks like around here. Back in fact to a shot taken almost four years ago when I had the entirety of Bedruthan Steps to myself. At that time you could still descend those famous steps down onto the beach; that was before a chunk of cliff crumbled and made them so dangerous that the National Trust decided it was time to fence off the approach. In fact to take this shot I had to scale another fence, but sometimes you need to bend the rules for the best viewpoint. It's not an easy spot to compose, and I've taken many a shot from the edge of the official viewing area, where you either end up including an empty mass of green cliffside to the right, or the fence, or both. And you don't get the stacks in their full glory either. If you want to make your own postcard I guess it's ok, but I think I'll pass on that option.

And there's another thing about Bedruthan. Take a shot here when the tide is out and the beach will be littered with stray rocks, as well as the odd set of footprints from those brave or crazy enough to flout the rules completely. One summer we witnessed one of the most extraordinary sunsets I've ever seen here. Of course we took those shots, but now I look back at thesresults, and while I love the top half as much as any sky I've ever photographed, the bottom is an absolute shambles. In the perfect world there would have been a full tide and I might have never taken a picture again after such a flawless moment. We all carry on striving for perfection - yet few of us achieve it. As long as we take pictures that we like, that's what keeps spurring us on to the next adventure.

And this is a shot that I liked. One that I never got around to sharing in these pages. But as I was reviewing old stories for a project I'm working on, I was reminded what a great location it is, especially when you clamber over an obstacle you're not supposed to. When the winds blow again, it's going to be a strong candidate for me to scale that fence again.

Quand tu as réussi à saisir l'instant , tu as de quoi être satisfait...

My homeland Northwest Germany is poor in mountains and rocks, so the only exception has been a very popular and even mystic place for centuries. We took advantage of the nice Summer weather to visit the Externsteine on Sunday.

The Externsteine belong to the Teutoburger Wald and are a natural outcropping of five sandstone pillars, the tallest of which is 37 mtr high and form a wall of several hundred metres in length, in a region that is otherwise largely devoid of rocks. The pillars have been modified and decorated by humans over the centuries. The place has been an important location for religion and spiritual activities throughout history. In warm evening light the beauty performs perfectly.

Royal Tern Feeding: With rare exception, when the adult arrived with fish, the chick knew what was coming and took a position ready to receive the food. The transfer generally took place in an instant, the adult then raising it's beak to ward off interloping Laughing Gulls or greedy terns. Great sport trying to get the moment of transfer, especially with a west wind and an east sun. If it wasn't hard it wouldn't be fun. Take care, Mike

2 uploads today... from the same place, Beilstein, Germany, one photo taken in 2018, the other in 2019, the 2018 photo had less fortunate weather, but the low clouds are the norm rather than the exception in late October there unfortunately. And oh flickr has been super slow this week, it's definitely beginning to frustrate my patience.

Photos replaced today (from Mongolia and Canada albums, strange combination, I know, but there's some fine autumn color shit in the links below):

A beautiful green bird that is found in woody areas often around flowering plants where it is generally found sucking up the nectar from the plants. I don't know the name of this tree, but it was a flowering tree and the bird was quite busy finding its food. It is always seen in pairs and y'day was no exception. This one is male noted by the black chin area. The female wasn't far away.

Many thanks in advance for your views and feedback. Much appreciated.

With the exception of the camera, everything about this photo is vintage: the two magnifiers, the piece of marble that serves as a background, the lens with which this photo was taken, not to mention me... 😅

Villa Eleinroc an exceptional place on the Côte d'Azur in Antibes Juan-les-Pins

Discover the rose garden

On a plot of approximately 1650m², the vegetable patch and the small garden of aromatic plants and cut flowers originally allowed the hostess, who maintained them, to enrich the ordinary of family life.

It is on this location and in order to relive the tradition and horticultural know-how that has made Antibes "the capital of the Rose" for years, that the City wanted to transform this garden into a rose garden.

The 1760 plants needed were kindly donated to the City by two famous rose growers from Antibes, Meilland and Fazari. Prestigious varieties have been planted: Catherine Deneuve, Philippe Noiret, Marcel Pagnol, Christophe Colomb, Princesse de Monaco (Ets Meilland) and Brazzero, Eve, Ivoirine, Majestic, Pramila (Ets Fazari).

"Almost without exception, blue refers to the domain of abstraction and immateriality.”...

Wassily Kandinsky, Russian-born French Expressionist painter, 1866-1944

Inheriting antique perfume bottles from my mother-in-law offers another way of remembering someone special. Every time I pick up the fragile glass containers I say a silent "thank you" to her for all of her love of life and her family.

I hate collages, but in this point I will do an exception.

I was shooting with my Helios lens, with manual focus, and coming back to the house I saw Chico in the olive tree.

To get focus with this lens is not easy. Anyway I shooted.

When I checked the photos at home, I verified a very good sharpness in the photos and a very funny serie of Chico yawning.

I hope you enjoy with this collage picture :-)
