Waterfalls are acoustic. Some roar, some sing, and a few weep. Every waterfall I know expresses themself using airwaves. Therefore, my ritual of visiting them is to set aside some listening time to hear what they have to say. An exception happened the other day when I met McWay in Big Sur. The exception was not with my ritual, but how the tidefall conveyed herself. She let the ocean speak instead. No matter how hard I tried, all I heard was the ocean’s grumblings. McWay – like Time – kept flowing and had nothing audible to say. And like Time, her mute beauty was incessant... eternal.
Talking about Time, how it flows! My beloved little wing-man turns nine soon. As he grows, he gives me reasons and excuses to grow with him as his everyday ally at home and in our travels together. Times I share with him remind me of times I have shared with my dad. Woods, rain, chirping birds, blooming flowers, moonrises, sunsets, stars, Milky-way… life flows on like beautiful waterfalls. It is a true privilege to pass on these endowments from dad to my son unadulterated and smeared with love.
To Rishabh, I say: Thank you for being such a kind and sensitive human being. Like McWay, we must keep flowing, whether our voices are audible or not. Time changes everything, yet it can’t touch a few songs deep within. Yes Rishabh, just as nine years ago, it’s still the same – you are why I am.

There are few structures in the world as iconic and instantly recognisable as the Colosseum in the eternal city of Rome. Shot here at the blue-hour, shortly before sunrise, the Colosseum is an extraordinary example of ancient architecture which to this day draws millions of visitors every year.
This is castle Neuschwanstein built on the edge of the Tyrol mountains in southern Germany by King Ludwig II of Bavaria. The King was a reclusive sort and he dreamt of a fantasy castle out of the legends from the era of knights and the holy grail. By his own account he wished to be an "eternal mystery" and held himself aloof from society, and dreamed of constructing this fantastic retreat from the world.
It truly is one of the most magnificent castles in the world and in an absolutely spectacular location. The final chapter of King Ludwig's story is a sad one, while he stayed in the castle during construction, he never lived to see the completion. His dreams were beyond the capacity of the Bavarian Kingdom's finances, and he was eventually declared insane by the government and deposed, dying under mysterious circumstances after being interned in Berg Palace.
I'm not sure what moral, if any, to take from this story, or if its just a sad story. Seen as a piece of art, it is possibly the finest example of castle architecture anywhere. Millions visit it each year now and it is supposedly the inspiration for Disney's "princess castle". So like many a great artist through history, his artistic vision and passion ultimately drove him mad, but had a lasting impact which only grows over time.
Photo taken on a recent visit to Munich Germany, where I had a free weekend so decided to see if any fall colors were still clinging to the hills around the castle. I was pleasantly surprised to find some pockets of color still remaining. It's a nice hike up to the Marienbrücke bridge that looks across to the castle. I highly recommend doing it in the early morning. I did it first at sunset and there were so many tourists bashing about the bridge that it wouldn't stop shaking long enough to get a decent shot. In the morning though, I saw only one other couple in an hour wandering around up there.
One week in Blavand now and sunshine all over the day, seems like ages ago when I spotted the last cloud. Can go on for another week, when my holidays are over at the end of the month some rain would be fine. Hvidbjerg Strand, Jylland, Denmark

This fire was kindled with a flame from a Cherokee Council fire that has been burning in Oklahoma since 1838. The original fire was taken to Oklahoma when the Cherokee Nation was removed west over the infamous "Trail of Tears".
In May 1951, four Eastern band of Cherokee Tribal leaders from the Qualla Boundary, North Carolina, retraced that trail of heartbreak and brought live coals from the Oklahoma fire.
The Eternal Flame here at the Mountainside Theatre was kindled from the century old Oklahoma fire on June, 23, 1951.
May this fire burn eternally as a symbol of the strength of the Cherokee People and may it honor those Cherokee who have gone before.

The site, which was originally an Etruscan burial ground, was first developed in the 7th century BC, growing over time to become the social, political and commercial hub of the Roman empire.
