Taken near to the new site of Shakespeare and Company, where I bought of interviews with Hemingway.

As most will tell you, this isn't the original location. Still the same establishment though. TBH the sloppy joe's weren't all that fab either.

Ernst Rowohlt (* 23. Juni 1887 in Bremen; † 1. Dezember 1960 in Hamburg) war ein deutscher Verleger. 1908 gründete er seinen Verlag, den Rowohlt Verlag, in Leipzig zum ersten Mal, zwei weitere Verlagsgründungen sollten folgen.

With this photo, I wanted to portray how the atypical teenager/college student is a very inquisitive and learned individual. We, as scholars, seek to attain more knowledge by indulging ourselves with the so-called "classic" literature.

It's through art, literature, and music that define a youth's belief system, resulting to the often-seen nihilistic and rebellious behavior/thought-processes. Of course, we all get older and abandon such ideologies, which proves that such dispositions are only fleeting.

With the title, "Machiavellian Hemingway," I wanted to create a contradictory dichotomy between some of the presented literature. The contrasting dogmas between Machiavelli's The Prince and the rest of the books are -- I feel -- simple to identify: order versus rebellion, thoughts controlled by power and fear versus the freedom of the human spirit.

I think the 8mm camera adds a nice touch, depicting how the human subject would like to emmulate what he is reading -- which, as explained in the previous paragraph, is kinda difficult.

This uninspiring shot show a building in Milan that in 1918 was an hospital of the American Red Cross, in the summer of that year a young Ernest Hemingway was brought here.

Then he wrote "Farewell to Arms"...

Ketchum, Idaho is quite pleased that Ernest Hemingway spent his last few years here, and his name appears in many places, including this school.

In Room 14, Hemingway spent his first night in Paris.

This is where Hemingway did his writing when he lived in Key West. Located in a separate building that was connected by catwalk to Ernest Hemingway house, Key West, FL

The house was built by Asa Tift, a marine architect (and Confederate mariner), in 1851. In 1931 Hemingway purchased it and lived here with his second wife, Pauline, and their two sons until 1939.

Here, Hemingway completed the final draft of "A Farewell to Arms," as well as "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" and "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber".

He collected cats with six toes on their front paws because six-toed cats are believed to bring good luck. They say all of the six-toed cats on the island of Key West are descendants of Hemingway's cats.

Our son loves cats, and Hemingway's house was just about the only thing he enjoyed in Key West (can't say I blame him). That, and the chickens.

Hemingway was in Pamplona for the feast of San Fermin on several occasions. He wrote about the festival and made the running with the bulls famous in The sun also rises.

This house was a remodeling by Wright. The earlier home was severe cubic building that Wright changed by adding the open and enclosed porches, extending the eaves and redesigning the entryway. It was not executed according to Wright's drawings.Look for the :Prairie details he added.

Captain Tony's is full of Key West history. The building was built in 1851 as a morgue, then it was converted to an icehouse and finally a telegraph station. This was the original location of Sloppy Joe's, and both Hemingway and Jimmy Buffet have been regulars through the years. Today the walls are decorated with underwear and live rock bands often play on Captain Tony's stage. If you want to sip a cold beer and hobnob with the locals, this is a great place.

The normal cat has 18 toes (five on each front foot and four on the rear) found on most cats, polydacts have six or more toes on the front feet, and sometimes an extra toe on the rear. The cats living here have been given the nickname "Hemingway Cats.”

The Cours Mirabeau is a wide thoroughfare, planted with double rows of plane-trees, bordered by fine houses and decorated by fountains. It follows the line of the old city wall and divides the town into two sections. The new town extends to the south and west; the old town, with its narrow, irregular streets and its old mansions dating from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, lies to the north. Along this avenue, which is lined on one side with banks and on the other with cafés, is the Deux Garçons, the most famous brasserie in Aix. Built in 1792, it has been frequented by the likes of Paul Cézanne, Ãmile Zola and Ernest Hemingway.

"Write hard and clear about what hurts."

This trunk was rescued from the Finca after the Castro takeover. Mary and Valarie loaded it on a shrimp boat outside of Havana then Key West and finally trucked back to Ketchum.

I am now reading The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway.

this book is depressing, too.

The worldview portrayed in this book is Nihilism... Basically, Nihilism says that there is no point to life... how it starts is how it will end. There is no hope.

I'm glad I have my savior to give me hope.

Given that this was my parents' first visit to Key West, the Hemingway Home and Museum (907 Whitehead Street) was a must-see stop on our itinerary. This shot shows a front view of the iconic author's Florida home. Visitors can explore the home at the own pace, or join a guided tour with one of the docents. We opted for the latter, and took a brief stroll through the grounds while we waited for the next tour to begin. (Tip: Show your AAA card at the ticket booth for a discount.)
